You'd think that after an entire 76 minute love story that was a plot device to get them a truck it would have lasted more than one episode.

Which reminds me. Last minor gripe and I’ll leave things alone for awhile….

Super prepper Fred has his pick of virtually any vehicle and he’s rocking a 1990 Chevy S10? Really, A Chevy Cavalier truck?

I was thinking that with a 4x4 vehicle and gas and a map why not drive the state and county highways across the country. Avoid all cities and stay in the hinterland. But if you were to stay on interstate highways avoiding Chicago, surely a site of a big QZ, would be a good idea.

Older cars were easier to fix/maintain before all that fancy computer stuff.

Sure, so an old Bronco or f150 4x4, Ram Power Wagon, etc etc etc. There are literally 100’s of better options that meet your criteria.

He already owned it, liked it and likely had lots of spare parts for it. It was 20 years old at a minimum so having extra spare parts and knowing how to repair it is the only worry.

Also, it fit in the garage.

I, for one, did not expect this to turn into a ford vs chevy debate thread

I feel like I time traveled back to auto tech vocational HS shop talk and the voc teacher has lost the classroom

I'm sorry.

BTW, enjoying the show. Very much. But someone explain to me how flashlight and lantern batteries are available 20 yrs after society collapses.

Put me in the camp that the woman playing the leader of the rebellion was really miscast. That was a weird choice. That whole story line was just odd to me but I guess when you only spend a couple days in these little worlds that have developed in the apocalypse things will be strange and not make sense.

The main henchman of the woman looked too much like Will Forte in “Last Man on Earth” which was distracting me

Could definitely see the Joel sniper scene being a portion of the game, guessing that was straight out of it where you had to snipe a bunch of fungus monsters for a period of time to pass the section.

Didn‘t get the whole underground thing, another odd thing which makes no sense, but that was cool to watch.

Guy with the beard played Tommy in the video game, fwiw

In the game, the use of tunnels was a way of avoiding stuff like fedra or hunters etc - but the tunnels are also full of infected for gameplay

So there are sinkholes, like the one in the building, where tons of creatures can be popping out of? I’d be leaving KC

Yeah, in the game sinkholes are there (particularly part II outside of Wyoming), but aren't used to show infected.

I think this was more of a TV show decision as the show runners explained they look more scarier at night.

I was a little disappointed in the costume/special effects for the big bad who came out of the hole. He just kinda looked like a fat guy in a Halloween costume.

Great episode overall, though. I thought the lady leader was fine once they explained that she was the sister of the former leader, which explained why she was running things.

Exactly

The fact that they didn't spill the complete backstory the first minute of her initial screen time is called storytelling.

Patience seems quite lacking with some.

I get that perhaps the sister of a leader taking over a bunch of post apocalyptic cold blooded killers would happen.

It’s the actress they picked. She looked and sounded like her Crate and Barrel placemats were on back order more than the head of the new world order.

She’s the sister of the former leader which helps it make sense a little more now at least.

Can somebody unpack a few things for me?

1. Why is there a faction attacking and killing innocent people in the city?

2. Who is the housewife leader chick and why does she lead the faction?

3. Where is any of this explained?

As others said, this is explained in the episode the released last night. They didn't want to run opposite the Super Bowl so it is a one-off release time change.

Episode 1 - prologue. This is how it started, this is what the fungus is, this is the kind of stuff people did to survive. The scene with the lady checking the kid and after seeing red, telling her that after the medicine she could have whatever she wanted to eat and her choice of toys was brutal. You meet Pedro and Lady Mormont and Tess but it's about introducing some of the other changes to the world after the fungus.

Episode 2 - what's outside the encampment. Boston is scary but there aren't zombies roaming everywhere... they explain how groups of chordyceps work and you find out they're mostly blind and... tess. The Ned stark moment happens early.

Episode 3 - what happened to people outside the quarantine zones? We find out about a prepper, a guy from the failed Baltimore QZ, raiders, and also learn how tess and Pedro got some of the things he used in Episode 1. Plus it was awesome TV.

Episode 4 - what's it like outside Boston? Why is it so difficult to travel? What is Pedro looking for? A little backstory to Pedro (we used to use the help me trick) and his burgeoning relationship with the girl. A new city and the dangers of uninfected people.

Episode 5 - I was genuinely worried this was the beginning of a season of walking dead. Here's Henry and fedra and the girl who I can't quite place but I think she dated Charlie in two and a half men? And here we are developing characters and then this happens and that happens and I think I know which characters are going to be around for a while but I'm way off. And somehow I'm surprised that the show is what they told me it would be. Plus the underground thing

Each episode so far has been awesome and built up to what we know now. But they've also been cool standalone stories. That's great storytelling. I just hope they can keep it up

For those of you that don't appreciate a good love story, are you happy now? Are you not entertained?

That was a kick *** episode. Sinkhole fungi extravaganza was good television. Joel Lee Harvey Oswalding with a bolt action was tense and the clickers and bloater definitely delivered.

Agree Kathleen looked like more of a threat to ask for my manager than lead the People's Rebellion, but she was a ruthless mofo. Karma at the end.

Yeah it did. And her second in command is quite clearly in love with her.

Since i saw the trailer last week, I fast forwarded through the talking to get to the action scene. The fat suit was pretty cheesy. And did Ellie fall asleep even though she knew that kid was infected?
Much like TWD, ill just check out the effects for a few episodes and just follow this thread. If that much. I'll keep out of the minutiae so people don't complain about nitpicking.

As a positive, I loved the infected kid in the car and the fact that they kill off people quickly although Karen not killing Henry immediately was lame since that was her main goal.

That entire episode was almost ripped right out of the game. Loved it. They built up the bloater all week for 5 seconds of air time which was weird though.

Yep sniper scene was directly from the game and you play Joel with the sniper and protect Ellie, Henry, and Sam. Can't believe how well they did it in the show. And the end which everyone who played the game were waiting for all season. That was THE moment from the game.
