***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I tried to watch some movie that was highly recommended called Shawn of the Dead. I couldn't make it through 10 minutes of that crap...
Im not a horror movie guy myself. Someone highly recommended I watch Scary Movie and i thought it sucked. I turned it off after 20 minutes. I dont think i can watch American Horror Story now.
Wow. Tough crowd. I thought Shaun/Shawn of the Dead was hilarious and Scary Movie was very good too. Where do you guys stand on Monty Python (please don't say something like, "the neck").
I stopped finding Monty Python humorous when I grew hair in my armpits fwiw. I also hate the 3 Stooges. I find Anchorman to be hysterical. I don't know what to tell you.
I have never found the Three Stooges funny. I also didn't like The Hangover or Old School and find only bits and parts of Anchorman to be funny.

Honestly, you have to be a fan of British humor more than a zombie fan for that one. The deadpan deliveries with the dry wit is what makes it.

don't you people have blogs?

This half-season has been by far the best of the series IMO. Fewer zombies-for-the-sake-of-zombies and vastly improved character-driven stories. Probably not a coincidence that the best episode of the series so far is basically a "side quest" story with Rick and Carl and Michonne.

I disagree with everything other than your punctuation.

How 'bout Step Brothers?

:goodposting:Tonight's bringing it also. Sure we got an awesome zombie stomp :excited:But we are also getting a great interaction between Merle and Michone.  Merle just let her loose... did not see that coming ...

I thought it was odd that she is just merrily going back to the Guv's with Merle instead of fighting him at every step.

Now it makes sense with what they just did, but complying like that is not true to her character.

[Don't read the spoiler if you don't watch the previews]

The previews for the next episode showed ...

Mich and Rick chatting in a friendly manner. But she had no way of knowing that Rick changed his mind about giving her up, correct?

Well
He did tell the group, so he may tell her. And Merle told her that Rick would have changed his mind, and she seemed to understand that. So I don't think it's safe to assume that she will never know

They don't have a clue about what to do with Michonne or how to do it. They never did. And it started with casting.

"Hey, how about she gets angry with someone, then she puts a really mean look on her face?"

"I love it ... write it up!"

Of course it was. She's not a hot head like Merle. She was waiting for her opportunity to take him out.

Loved the episode. Glad Rick came to his senses, although I thought it would be more from him realizing how stupid it is to trust the governor.

I have not read any comics or any spoilers on the season finale, so this is purely my thoughts based on the episode tonight. I have this feeling that Rick's crew will be gone from the prison and set up a trap of some sort (blowing something up or opening all of the doors/letting in zombies). Maybe even destroying Woodbury's gates while they are storming the prison. After looking at Rick addressing the crew, there is no way they can stand toe to toe with the governor's fire power, and I cannot see them all dieing. Just seeing Herschel, Carol, the baby, Carl, Beth and Maggie, I can't see a big fight and Rick's crew somehow winning.

Oh, I need to put the rest in a spoiler tag as I just watched the Talking Dead's preview of next week. If you watched the preview at the end of the episode and the one on Talking Dead, you can read it. If you don't like to watch previews, then don't read it.

We saw Michonne come back and them getting packed up. On the Talking Dead they showed the governor and his crew get all the way to the outside door with no resistance and they stopped when Tyrese's red shirt guy was about to open the outside door which was open. Reading between the lines, it sure seems like Rick's crew bailed (no idea on Daryl). Also, in the end of show preview Michonne tells Rick everything is ready. Somehow I think that has more to do with my initial thought above (trap) after I saw the Talking Dead preview while typing. I am thinking that maybe they did open everything up to make the prison uninhabitable and/or to get the people to go inside the prison and somehow seal them in and let the walkers loose (could chain doors open).

Completely disagree with you and agree with Christo. Michonne knows Merle and that fighting him at every step is futile. I haven't read the comics, but I think when they introduced her, her backstory (probably from the comics) was that she was a smart person. She had to bide her time and wait for an opportunity. She took the opportunity when he let her by telling her about himself. Based on the Talking Dead show with the actor playing Merle, it sounded like Merle was never planning to give her to the governor and maybe she knew that as well. Pretty sure both Merle and Michonne know that if Merle hands her over, they both end up dead. Merle told Rick the governor was not to be trusted and would kill them all, so I do think he took this opportunity to take Michonne and have her help him kill the governor. Maybe his whole intent was to keep his brother safe because he knew the governor wouldn't leave the prison alone.

"This Sorrowful Life" started out seeming like it was going be a long slog towards an inevitable result: an hour of Rick beating himself up over whether to turn Michonne into the Governor, when we all know, like Merle, that he would never do such a thing. Fortunately, it took an abrupt right turn about at third of the way through, with Merle relieving Rick of the choice and dragging Michonne off to the rendezvous by himself. This was also something of an inevitability. The odds of Michonne being killed before the finale (if then) seemed non-existent, and once Merle decided to let her go and try to take out the Governor himself, you knew how it would end. Again, you can't take out the bad guy before the climax, and you can't have a relatively minor character like Merle be the one doing the killing. That said, it was at least an interesting march to the inevitable this way, albeit one that burned one of the show's better actors in the process. Because the characterization on "The Walking Dead" is so spotty, the show tends to rise and fall on the strength of the individual performers. Once Merle returned this year as something other than a fire-breathing racist caricature, Michael Rooker demonstrated that he was one of the cast members who could do a lot with a little, and he'll be missed. But at least we got some insight into Merle before the Governor shot him and his brother stabbed his face eighty dozen times — and not in the superficial "here are one or two anecdotes about my previous life so you'll feel bad about me when I die in two minutes" way that T-Dog and Axel got earlier. We got to understand what makes Merle tick — some of that courtesy of the suddenly chatty Michonne — and in his clever solo assault on the Governor's forces, we got to see the kind of value he might have brought to Rick's group if he hadn't been so hell-bent on playing the bad guy.I'd have liked for him to stick around — and/or for him to have taken out the Governor, which would have been both surprising and something of a relief from a character who's grown tiresome — but I liked the way Rooker and Danai Gurira worked together, and Daryl seeing the monster wearing his brother's face was as horrifying in its own way as Sophia's emergence from the barn midway through last season. Some other thoughts on "This Sorrowful Life":* In terms of the action back at the prison, I couldn't help but find it funny that Rick delivers his big speech about how he needs to stop being a dictator and listen to what the others have to say... and then immediately walks away, rather than wait to actually hear what they have to say in response to the many, many talking points provided by that monologue.* I can in general take or leave the Glen/Maggie relationship, but I enjoyed the proposal scene, both for the way Greg Nicotero shot it and because I could imagine the conversation continuing off-camera with Maggie asking Glen how he happened to come by such a pretty ring. How long do you think he spent disinfecting it?* The car alarm scene had some nice action beats, like Michonne staying alive with the help of her tether, but wouldn't Merle think to poke his head up for a moment to see if this loud noise was attracting all those mindless killers who are attracted to loud noises?

My only beef with the whole episode is that Merle had this beef with the guv, why not wait for him specifically to show and then pop him instead of letting people know you're there by wasting ammo on nobodies. OF course Merle ain't the brightest so whatever.

Sure, that's how they want to portray here this time. They've been all over the map with her from the start and tonight was no exception. I suppose she was just biding her time when the zombies were closing in around her, but she chose to sit and wait for Merle to redeem himself and save her because then she knows he'd let her go after they got away. There's no direction to her character, no development, no consistency, no depth, no personality... nothing but a scowl.

Just thought of something that would have been a real cool trap. One that won't happen on the show because there isn't enough time to prep it. Still, how about rounding up a ton of zombies and putting a handful of them into each cell and then triggering the cell release mechanism (might be an issue since it is probably electrical, or maybe that is easier with a functioning battery) when the people go from one block to the next? It could potentially put walkers in front and back in an instant when they would think they were safe due to the cells being closed.

Pretty sure he was trying to do that. He first shot some fringe guys just to allow the walkers to continue to overrun them causing them to continue to have to battle walkers. His plan was to keep them all occupied with walkers to get his chance. He tried to get off a shot, but Tyrese's red shirt got in the way. Also, at that point the walker came at him and Martinez already saw Merle, so he had no second chance.I think the only thing I didn't like was that Merle has a weapon attached to him and that the governor trying to kick him while on his back should have ended up with his stump knife in the governor's leg.

She bided her time at Woodbury as well. Sure, she scowled a lot and was more T-dog than main character for a while, but she felt out the governor before doing anything. She was checking out the blood on the truck after the national guard run-in and figured out the governor way before dumb ### Andrea. Could you elaborate on her all over the map? Seems like someone who doesn't open up, but is a good person and will open up (Andrea and now Rick's crew) once she "trusts" them. We saw a note on this when she told Andrea her walkers in tow deserved what they got. Seems like she started as a guarded person because of that and I am not sure I have seen anything that shows that she hasn't been consistent. She didn't trust the governor, hence the constant scowl.

I thought his initial plan was to use Michonne to get close enough to the Gov to kill him before the Gov killed him. Either way it was a suicide mission.

She was in a bad position with her hands tied. Her odds of getting away by fighting Merle and she decided to Jedi mind trick him before attempting to attack him.
