What is it you have an issue with? The stuff regarding how people turn into zombies? This is really the big unknown in the show, why wouldn't we talk about it?The stuff about the governor and 18 miles? We're just joking about my overraction to something I though belonged in a spoiler.The stuff about where people could survive, like on an island? It's a one-hour show that's pretty straight-forward. You can only talk about the show so much. Eventually a show featuring zombies is going to lead to some tangent hypotheticals.What would you like to discuss?

Thank goodness copeman came in to fix it.By the way, here is a thought, how about we figure out the bare minimum survival kit when the SHTF in aught-fourteen?I was browsing my Costco coupon book and they had 4 food items, which I hadn't seen before:1. 250ish servings of cheese with a 20 year shelf life for $1702. 200ish servings of ground beef and shredded chicken with a 25 year shelf life for $100-1503. 330 servings (1 month) of different foods with a 15 year shelf life for $854. Seeds for a 1 acre farm with a 5 or 10 year shelf life, can't recall the cost, but I think it was the cheapest of the fourA few essentials:Batteries - I think most have a 5 year shelf life, although could look at rechargeable if they last longer (next point)Solar power chargers - If you have rechargeable items. I would stick with non-rechargeable, unless rechargeable batteries could last much longer.Flashlights - Hand crank for charging in some cases, would think a combination of a couple of crank ones for long term along with some mag lights for immediate light and/or self defenseWater - Bottled could be good for the immediate mayhem and most bottled water has a decent length it keeps. Not as worried about plastic leaching, if I die of cancer instead of zombies, it was a good run. What is the best convenient and portable water purifier? Iodine, fire starter for boiling, solar for UV? I would think that the essential part of purification would have to be something you know will kill 100% of germs/viruses. If you can 100% purify it, then there shouldn't be a big worry even if water is contaminated if you have no alternatives.Food - Wasn't aware of stuff with that long of a shelf life, so I would think that those survival food sources are perfect.Weapons (guns) - Whole lot a good stuff to talk about here. My favorites so far that I have recently seen on some Discovery shows was the automatic shotgun, an semi-automatic grenade launcher (similar tommy gun style ammo holder as the automatic shotgun) and a new automatic gun developed on Son of Guns that was based on an AR-15 with lots of changes to make it more reliable like the AK. They had silencers for it where you didn't need ear plugs, so could be a nice weapon. Could fire after submerged in water and dragged through dusty ground. The grenade launcher is purely for SHTF gotta clear a big area fast. Think Dawn of the Dead remake on top of the mall. If you had enough ammo, you could take out thousands of zombies and hope that the explosions bring enough other walkers in the area to in essence more quickly clear an area.Weapons (silent) - What ya got?Shelter - Thoughts on best setups?Sleeping bags/Tents - Are there any that could potentially mask your heat/smell to not attract zombies to you while asleep?

I'd want a reloader and cans of black powder too. On one of those gunsmith shows they said bullets have about a 3-4 years shelf life, so you need a way of making more.A few books on edible plants from the continent I'm on. Book on frontier medicine.The husband and wife team of Man/Woman Wild. Learn his survival skills, feed him to the zombies. Repopulate with the widow.

Sadly, I don't dip anymore, but I used to love the Copenhagen Black. Went through a Cope Long Cut phase for awhile too. I was never man enough for plain ol' Snuff. Couldn't keep it together.I went through a lot of cheap brands too (mainly Red Seal and Grizz), but I was never a fan of Longhorn.

The most ironic thing about this thread is that it mimics the show in that so many different ideas about what to do and how to do it. If everyone in this thread were on a farm during a zombie infestation, We'd all have about as much unity as the shows cast does.

1. Rick didn't go out of his way to put a bullet in anyone's head in the bar. He shot the first guy in the head for a kill shot. The fat guy got two quick taps to the stomach/lower chest or liver, then a quick headshot. Sure, that headshot could be symbolic, but it was quick enough to just be a kill shot considering the other two weren't immediately fatal.
2. The hanging zombie was bitten previously.
If everyone is infected, then everyone was presumably infected when the apocalypse started. The people on the interestate were presumably fleeing the zombies in the city, so it would make sense they died without turning. I was on board with everyone being infected and all who die from now on will come back as zombies, but the dead bodies on the interstate would be a major plot-hole IMO. I wouldn't buy the explanation saying they just hadn't been infected yet, because then... where did the first zombies come from?
Maybe they'll address it completely in the show, but from what I understand, it will probably never be fully addressed.
I don't understand all the talk about being weak and turning. If you get bit, you die from it, and then come back as a zombie, and digging a bunch of graves didn't lead to that guy's demise a bit. It's pretty standard zombie movie stuff, and I think they've even addressed that part directly. They've spoken about scratches, but it hasn't been addressed directly so far.

Good point, something that is easily secured and doesn't require electricity would be good. In the US, I would think a maximum security prison would be a solid place to reside if you could clear it out. It might be a bad place to go, i.e. if the prisoners were able to secure it, they wouldn't be the type of people you would want to run into with your supplies.But, if the prison has already been evacuated/overrun, it would be a great place to secure and use. There should be medical supplies, power gen equipment, food/drinks, firearms, exterior protection (multiple levels), good vantage points to kill wandering zombies before they are a threat, etc.The other nice thing about prisons is the biggest ones tend to not be in a city, so the seclusion should allow you to easily secure the area without ever having to worry about there ever been too many zombies to clear out.

Pretty sure there are hand cranked ones of those and they allow for communications with other survivors, if you want to connect.Also, for power gen, found this web site: LINK, which describes pedal powered generators. I had thought about Fort Knox, but it would probably be really hard to get into the building in the first place.Places that are now museums have the benefits that they probably won't be full of zombies. The downside would be they wouldn't have much for current day weapons.

A couple thoughts. I agree on the hanging zombie, I recall the bite. The double tap to the fat guy's head wasn't that quick, but Rick could have easily done that to ensure he didn't come back. He isn't Shane, so not in his nature to do that without reason.When I think of everyone being infected, I am thinking that the CDC guy told Rick that about his entire crew. Why give them blood tests if he knew the entire world was infected. I think the people on the highway that died, were dead before they contracted the "virus" (pretty sure that is what the CDC guy said). I don't think this is a latent thing that every has had for years, I think it spreads like a pandemic and at this point almost every has had contacts with zombies and thus is infected.Again, this is just my thoughts on it.

Shane said the military was killing people in the hospital not just zombies. It is possible that the military thought the infection was only in certain areas. Maybe the military dropped toxic gas or something on those fleeing the city. The intention being to contain the disease and prevent people from leaving and spreading the sickness. I thought if they gassed people, wouldn't some of the survivors know about it? But then again if someone was close enough to see the gas dropped maybe they'd be too close to escape.The CDC guy taking blood. We assume he was looking for signs of infection. But what if he was looking for something odd like not being infected or having antibodies, like in "I Am Legend".

I just disagree. I made sure to pay attention to this while watching a second time, and ended up watching a third. He made two quick, not immediately fatal shots to the guy, and ended him with a head shot quickly thereafter. It certainly didn't seem like something where anyone should focus to me.Maybe we'll learn for sure eventually, but I'm guessing we won't. Obsessing about it will probably end up leading you down the path of many Lost fans who thought they had all the answers.
