***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (2 Viewers)

I am concerned about the prison thing... have not read the comics but I hope it doesn't get stale staying in the same location for another long period.
Not sure if it needed spoiler but if you're interested in a possible answer
In the comics, the prison storyline is three times the length of the farm one. But it's not the only location. Things happen inside and out of the prison. I expect at least two seasons in there

Reading the comics now. Only about two issues in involving the prison, and a whole bunch of  has happened.

Loved the last episode. Can't wait for next season. Wondering if I should start the comic? For those that have read graphic novels, do they take away from the fun of the TV show, or add to it?

Also, how do I go about reading them...there are like 20 versions of them..(volumes, issues, books, compendium, etc). If I've caught up in the show, what issue/book/volume do I start with?

I think it's a bit odd that zombies would wear so much makeup. White, cakey makeup. Where did they get it?
Real Housewives of Atlanta down? Hell, the one in this pic looks like she went out for a part in TWD.http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A0PDoX0C4mlPLwIADlGJzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTBlMTQ4cGxyBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1n?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3F_adv_prop%3Dimage%26va%3Dreal%2Bhousewives%2Bof%2Batlanta%2Bpics%26fr%3Dyfp-t-521-s%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D4&w=502&h=594&imgurl=content4.catalog.photos.msn.com%2Fds%2Fpic-en-us%2Fpicenus_msnentertainment%2FMSNE%2FCED0A344-A97C-4508-B210-C097DE979E5B.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftv.msn.com%2Ftv%2Fseries-photos%2Fthe-real-housewives-of-atlanta%2F%3Fphoto%3D16f976d2-dc8c-40bb-8f88-34935f6f8bb9%26amp%3Bgallery%3D21840&size=67.7+KB&name=The+Real+Housewives+of+Atlanta+-+Photos+-+MSN+TV&p=real+housewives+of+atlanta+pics&oid=e736a688320b5c80637adf4aadf14990&fr2=&fr=yfp-t-521-s&tt=The%2BReal%2BHousewives%2Bof%2BAtlanta%2B-%2BPhotos%2B-%2BMSN%2BTV&b=0∋=21&no=4&tab=organic&ts=&sigr=13v9d3o28&sigb=13vru8166&sigi=13j9bqrut&.crumb=X1dc2fFTj0P

I hadn't read a comic in about 25 years before I read this one after I started watching the show (hat tip to Usual for posting the links. There's a Walking Dead - comic version thread around here somewhere.) For me, the comic enhanced the show. I had started to grow a little bored with the show through the first half of the second season. Started reading the comics after hearing/reading people talk about how good they were. When the show started back up I had been through all the comics and I felt like it made the show a little more interesting to me. Then the show took off and got, in my opinion, way better than it had been through the first season and a half. I'm really interested now to see how they work some of the events/characters from the comics into the story they're telling with the show. The comics added to the show for me. I kind of liked watching and seeing how the show was deviating from the comics. Certain characters in the show aren't in the comics and vice-versa, so it was also kind of cool to see how some of the show's characters were combinations of traits of the comic characters that, to this point, haven't been on the show.

Zombie version of Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan?

For those that are scared that the new character is a superhero and it's ridiculous for her to have two zombie pets:

She immediately cuts their heads off upon reaching the prison, because "she doesn't need them anymore".
So, it's okay to step back from the ledge.

:goodposting: Think Castaway and the Volleyball.. When you are alone you need someone to talk to... two zombies with no arms and no jaws are better than a volleyball. ;)

I, for one, welcome our new zombie sword slicing overlord.I mean... it's a TV show... and I want to be entertained. :hifive:
By this logic, no one should have complained if The Sopranos had introduced The Incredible Hulk to Tony's screw, and no one should have anything negative to say if Kermit the Frog parachutes in to help out Bruce Willis if there's another Die Hard movie, right? After all, we're just looking to be entertained.
:lmao:Oh come on. Yes, a zombie-based post apocalyptic story arch is EXACTLY the same as a show based on a crime family.
Have have no dog in this ninja lawyer chick fight. But the point of the show is that it is supposed to be realistic. It's not fantasy, it's not a cartoon. There is ONE point of departure: Some virus has caused this zombification or whatever. That's it. This show isn't about the supernatural. It's not about wizards or Jedis or some #####-rods stuck on purgatory island or whatever. Yes, in terms of science that is not realistic but that is no reason to throw everything else out the window.
As someone who just freshly watched and only knows about what happened in the first season, some super-heroish ninja does sound a bit over the top. I found the "realism" of episode one to be good (although they are all crack shots and, statistically, I don't think the world would have dwindled down as fast as it did) and a key element of the show. Kinda like Breaking Bad where some crazy #### happens, but it's believable.
The whole ninja thing is pure speculation. People are making assumptions based on about 10 seconds of screen time. I haven't read the comics but from what I hear that's not the case.

In a zombie apolocalypse, I'm willing to buy that may people will survive because they are creative/"out there" enough that they will devise successful survival strategies.

If this person, who is good with a sword, has figured out how to mask her scent by dragging along two zombies on chains, is that much different than when Rick and crew skinned zombies and wore their skin to navigate a hoard?

Once you take away the zombies' abilities to feed, at a certain point, maybe a different instinct kicks in.

Start at the beginning. For me, I think the comics have detracted from the show, only because they're so much better. By comparison, the show is disappointing. But at the same time, having read the comics is the only thing keeping me interested in the show. I keep watching because, even though it's been dragging up to this point, I know there's a bunch of really cool stuff ahead.

For me it added to it. Sure, there are a lot of spoilers but they are different enough that you don't know exactly what to expect. Imagine reading an early draft of a movie script, that what it's like IMO.My advice - download and read them on a tablet.

WOW, a lot of over reaction on a character that was seen for 5 seconds. The days of going to Starbucks to get your morning coffee and read your iPad are long gone. It's the zombie apocalypse, the end of the world, you guys expecting normalcy? I would expect the unexpected, and welcome it in my zombie shows.
:goodposting: I've had my fill of listening to poorly-written halfwits pontificate about how "If we do XYZ, then we've lost our humanity!" I'm ready for something different.
If people get tired of listening to pontification then we've lost our humanity!

Where did all this stuff about Michonne being a ninja come from? Her skill is more valuable than Andrea's since it's silent but their lethality is portrayed about the same.

:shrug:People freaking out over a 10 second view of her using a sword.. Oh and having two zombies in tow probably threw them completely over the hill side. No patience to wait until the Fall to find out who she is or her back story so going to jump all over it and proclaim it a :shark: moment.Prime example was last weeks up roar about the Horde of Zombies showing up on the farm.. How did they get there so fast.. So UNREAL I'm about done with this show.... :rant:Then the next episode explains it and

Seriously. She swings a sword once and she is labeled a ninja. By that logic, Carl is part of Seal Team Six because he shot Shane in the head. She is just a chick with a sword.

I think zombies have been classified enough in the show to allow for a couple of zombies who don't attack anymore. We've established that some wander in packs, others sit around waiting for something to come by. If a zombie had no ability to attack, would it become more docile? It isn't that far of a stretch for me. It isn't like we know everything about zombies. We also know fresher zombies are faster more nimble. And decomposed zombies are slower.

We do know that smell and sound is the primary attraction. If the smell of the dead keeps other zombies from attacking, having a couple of docile zombies in tow is a good way to get around.

On top of that, Michonne is one of the best characters from the comics. One of my 3 favorites. I'm sure everyone will like her very early on.

We may need an Offdee scale for zombie aggression.

Yep, this is like me with Thrones...the book def added to the story. I plan on doing the same with Walking - i.e. only read up to where the TV show leaves us.

I think it is funny that people are freaking out about how ridiculous the sword lady is. Yea, towing zombies is a bit out there, but am curious to see the explanation (although I'll probably read it in the comics first). IMHO, the most ridiculous aspect of the show is how quick they are to start shooting the zombies, knowing that they are attracted to loud noises. A samurai sword seems like the absolute perfect weapon in a zombie apocalypse. It's relatively light-weight, and super sharp. Seems ideal for hacking down a horde of zombies.

Yep. I'm considering buying one and incorporating it into my personal zombie apocalypse action plan.

it seems like if they have access to unlimited ammo that silencers should be available...of course, I'm sure there are boats out there as well but that makes for a far less interesting story...you :nerd: need to relax about this hooded woman with 'special powers'. It's called fiction, fellas. Zombies don't exist :o

This dumb ### group is still driving trucks 40 years old, broken down RV's and hybrid cars. Do you think they have the mental fortitude to track down silencers?

How on earth did you come to this conclusion? They hinted and even said they were low on ammo in each of the past couple episodes.

So true.

I listened to a podcast interview with Executive Producer Glen Mazzara (who took over from Frank Darabont). I think he really gets this show (more than F.D. did). His work on a successful TV series (The Shield) helps I am sure. Since he took over the show got much better. I am really excited to see where it goes next season.

It is a shame they had that unrealistic scene in such a realistic show.

We do you assume that he didn't reload when he was off-camera?

Walking Dead Cast?

I'm loving the sword. I just don't dig the zombie pets. All I'm sayin...

If they quickly reel that nonsense in...then I'm ok. But if every new character starts showing up with more ridiculous and elaborate foolishness, then I'm saying that's a mistake.

As for the ignorance of this group...if there's still food and drugs on shelves...then you better believe there's an armory or gun shop that should be objective number one for me. Secure the weapons and ammo, then you can take whatever else you need.

And those cars...good lord. Are there no dealerships to hit?

I think the D&D nerds and survivalists would be with me on some of this stuff. We'd be min/maxing our abilities from jump street.

After sitting idle in gas tanks for more than 3 months, gas is pretty much useless. And no electricity to pump gas out of service station pumps.

Older cars are much easier to work on than newer cars.

:goodposting: I believe Dale(RIP) even mentioned that in the beginning about taking cars he knows he could fix..

Had a car sit for a year. Needed a new battery. Started up first time. 05 Mazda.

I was thinking that was one hellva shotgun myself. Then they showed him reload when Rick appeared. If they had not shown that, I would have said they messed up. Did he fire more shots in a row without interruption than a shotgun can hold before they switched scenes?

You got lucky then. After about 2 or 3 months of sitting idle, gas begins to take on different characteristics.

It can take on different characteristics. I stored a car for almost a year and after charging the battery it started and ran just fine.
