He does a pretty good job in the trailer for this upcoming episode .. then again he doesn't speak a word so there is thatI think they brought the wrong guy in to play the Governor. I think David Morrisey is a pretty decent actor, but he just didn't sell his role for whatever reason.
I'm not saying that we need flashbacks of Carol, her husband, and Sophia sitting around the dinner table in a pre-zombie apocalypse world. But perhaps a brief flashback that involved some of the Woodbury refugees' early response to the zombie outbreak might shed some more light on the characters, such that the viewers actually know enough about the characters to care whether they live or die. I just find it disappointing that, out of that entire group of Woodbury refugees, the only characters that the writers have invested any time in developing is really Tyreese, who isn't even really a Woodbury character. At this point, it just feels like they may have missed a good opportunity to inject some fresh, interesting characters into Rick's group. I'm still hoping that some interesting characters can emerge from Woodbury. I suppose that D'Angelo Barksdale still has a chance, although so far his storyline feels somewhat one-dimensional with his apparent issues with alcohol (which at this point amount to nothing more than a guy's reasonable desire for some booze to take the edge off during a zombie apocalypse).I'm also anti-flashbacks for the most part primarily because this is a show about who these characters are now and who they are becoming. Who they once were isn't all that important to me (other than Rick, who is the show's central character). As Shane said to Rick that world is gone. It's all about the characters now and moving forward.
Plus, if each character or several were given flashbacks it would feel too much like "Lost" to me.
The only reason Tyreese even went to Woodbury is because Rick went nuts in front of him.I don't really consider Tyreese or Sasha as "Woodbury people" since they encountered Rick's group before Woodbury and were only there for a short period of time, but that was an impressive listing of Woodbury characters that I'd venture 99% of Walking Dead viewers could not name. Then again, I am really bad at remembering names. But I think my point about those Woodbury characters being under-developed at this point in the season still stands.Sasha.Others they added from Woodbury or elsewhere... Caleb (Dr S), Lizzie and her sister (and dead dad), Bob, Karen, David, Zach (Beth's temporary love interest), Patrick. Can anyone even name a single person from the Woodbury group that they took in besides Tyreese? It seems like they could have spent the time to actually develop a character or two from that lot before giving so many of them meaningless deaths.
I'm not defending the dragging out of the Governor storyline but the biggest threat in a zombie apocalypse isn't the zombies.Yeah I came here to post the same thing. I am bored to death of the Governor I was hoping he would come back much later there was no suspense at all this soon gotta make it a surprise like Sophia. There has to be some human conflict in the show, but not too much. The reason I watch TWD is because it is about people surviving in a ZOMBIE apocolypse. There are literally tons of shows about conflicted groups of humans to choose from, like that one that the power is out or really any action show. If I want gunfights I can watch those.Homer J Simpson said:Gotta agree on these points. The guy's awful.Ash said:I wasto see the Governor in the closing scenes, although it was obvious he would enter the story again at some point. He's a badly written soap opera villain played by a terrible actor. Single worst piece of casting in the entire show. Let's hope it ends quickly.
I tend to think in a situation like this there would be more encounters like running into the guys in the bar, the people on the bridge and gangs not Duke Dastardly stalking them.
Yep. Horrible.I think they brought the wrong guy in to play the Governor. I think David Morrisey is a pretty decent actor, but he just didn't sell his role for whatever reason.
I don't cheer for them but when some unknown character gets killed it's meaningless to me.I cheer for the zombies. I might not if there were better actors/characters. Hopefully the new version has some better peeps to cheer for.Not really. The characters are essential. They have to be at least moderately compelling or it wouldn't work. We have to feel something for the characters, whether we like them or can't stand them. The show is about a zombie apocalypse. Rick and really all the characters are incidental.flapgreen said:No Rick. No show
As the show has alluded to quite a few times, there were never that many walkers around to be worried about it. For some reason, the walkers are all advancing on the prison, which is the main plot line right now (which many people are forgetting or overlooking), hiding under this "virus" plot.Like the show, but I do find it funny that they have been in the prison for so long and still haven't built up their defenses properly? Why wait until the chain link fence is nearly breached before you start adding support?
He looks like Edward Norton and Liam Neeson had a kid.Yep. Horrible.I think they brought the wrong guy in to play the Governor. I think David Morrisey is a pretty decent actor, but he just didn't sell his role for whatever reason.
What I meant by that comment was that had they kept Shane and killed off Rick, I think Shane would have been destined to become a Governor-like figure. I think he would have eventually been so obsessed with his own self-interest that he would have viewed those around him as expendable ... much like the Governor does. I don't think he would have faced the moral dilemmas Rick has. That makes no sense at all. Sounds like something Copeman would post. They did keep Shane ... he is called the Governor. They should have killed off Rick and kept Shane.Xflapgreen said:No Rick. No show
Lizzie kind of gives me the creeps. Just something about how she acts around the walkers and death itself.
He dresses like Han Solo and talks like Holling Vincoeur from "Northern Exposure".He looks like Edward Norton and Liam Neeson had a kid.Yep. From what little I've seen he's 1000x more cartoonish in the comic book (imagine that). I thought the comic book fans originally didn't like Morrisey because he was too nice and sane.I thought he was interesting, but his motivations and craziness far too cartoonish.

Hey, all I am saying is if I go to see Jaws I want to see some people getting chomped on by sharks, not a bunch of shootouts with the tagline "The most dangerous killer in the ocean is........da dum da.....Man"Agree. I'd rather see another rogue group of bandits.I'm not defending the dragging out of the Governor storyline but the biggest threat in a zombie apocalypse isn't the zombies.Yeah I came here to post the same thing. By Glenn? I agree.Maggie is way too hot to be this underutilized.

The show suffers from not having an antagonistic character. Everyone is a predictable good guy, especially now that they got rid of Carol who was finally becoming interesting. I'd love it if they had Michonne step up and start talking more and taking more of a leadership role. Whether they're right or wrong, someone needs to be able to play devil's advocate to Rick's ideas. The show does miss Shane. Not so much the character, but the actor. Jon Bernthal played the part perfect. I think the show really misses his presence.
I'd like to see what he would have done with the part of Daryl. Norman Reedus isn't a good actor. I know I know, but "he's a bad###!!!!"
Exactly. The show hasn't been the same since Shane died or Merle was with the main group. That constant tension isn't present, just moments here and there. The show suffers from not having an antagonistic character. I'm with you.I have no problem with a villain like the Governor, its just the actor who plays him is horrible
Yes, they did a really bad job of showing why Michonne hates the Governor so much.Hey, all I am saying is if I go to see Jaws I want to see some people getting chomped on by sharks, not a bunch of shootouts with the tagline "The most dangerous killer in the ocean is........da dum da.....Man"Agree. Plus the allure of the governer was the conflict with Andrea and his assistant whose name escapes me, with them dead the whole Michon thing just seems weak.
Exactly. Kirkman has repeated said, whether in reference to the comics or TV show, that it is a story about the PEOPLE that happens to be set in a zombie apocalypse, and how the people react and relate to each other under that kind of pressure. Zombies are not the antagonist, they are just the setting, of the story.I'm not defending the dragging out of the Governor storyline but the biggest threat in a zombie apocalypse isn't the zombies.Yeah I came here to post the same thing. Not like they could go with the storyline from the comics. (Not saying they couldn't have tried, but it would have been significantly watered down for TV.)Yes, they did a really bad job of showing why Michonne hates the Governor so much.
Agree with all of the above. He was never interesting and totally unnecessary.Yeah I came here to post the same thing. Agree with pretty much all of this. The Governor was a lot more brutal in the comics and I thought that brutality was the thing that made him interesting. The TV version just comes off as a typically stock TV villain. They've winked at the comic book brutality, but they haven't really developed it. Part writing and part the actor, I guess, but whatever the reason I think it's taken away the characteristic that made him interesting. Not like they could go with the storyline from the comics. (Not saying they couldn't have tried, but it would have been significantly watered down for TV.)Yes, they did a really bad job of showing why Michonne hates the Governor so much.
In the comics
Michonne was brutally raped by the Governor, in scenes that even in the comics were hard to continue reading. In the TV show, they had the Governor molest Maggie, but it's hard to figure out exactly what got Michonne so upset with him. It was extremely clear in the comics just why she hated him so much.
I used to love this show but it seems like the last couple episodes have been more about zombies and less about gardening. I think I may be done with this show.![]()
Are you watching the same show as we are?I simply cannot stand Rick anymore. He boots Carol for stabbing the infected in the head, dragging them out back and burning them...only, to come back and see Hershel doing the same thing.
This thread is gold, Jerry, gold!If they aren't going to give us the gardening show we all desire, then they could have at least had the Pea be a mutant of some kind and attack <_<I agree. A whole hour and they only open 1 peapod! Come on, at least give us a carrot or a potato!I used to love this show but it seems like the last couple episodes have been more about zombies and less about gardening. It's better than the show.Do we think the gov is holding Lori hostage? Would explain her recent whereabouts and involvement with the midnight rat dangling.I used to love this show but it seems like the last couple episodes have been more about zombies and less about gardening. I think I may be done with this show.

Yep. And if I am remembering correctly the title Walking Dead refers to thisr people trying to deal with the apocalypse and not the zombies themselves.Exactly. You mouse over and see the link has the words hot babe and naked in it...I'd think that's warning enough.
After letting her leave the Governor tried to have Michonne killed. I think that's why she hates him so much in the show. She also probably blames Andrea's death on him as well. Not like they could go with the storyline from the comics. Agreed. I mentioned my thought a couple times that I think Laurie killing him in that building would have been a great ending for him. I know they have plans, but for those of us who watched Heroes, it reminds me of the Season 1 ending in which Sylar didn't die. I know they liked the character and sometimes that drives a decision, like in Heroes, that derails the show a bit because the "revenge" takes too long and ends up being such a huge story. As you posted later, it kind of takes away from the whole last season. Heck, he could have just gone back to Woodbury and started over.I enjoyed the Governor last season but I was skeptical of not killing him off. Here's hoping they kept him alive because they had something really cool planned for him this season.
Still not sure what you're taking about here but maybe she'll kill him this season.I mentioned my thought a couple times that I think Laurie killing him in that building would have been a great ending for him.

Pretty sure she is a pile of slop in that zombie's belly. She probably can't walk anymore. They could do a Total Recall Kuato scene where she comes out of a zombie's belly and kills him while he tries to fight off the zombie.Preview shows her tripping over a fire pit while pretending to be a zombie.Still not sure what you're taking about here but maybe she'll kill him this season.I mentioned my thought a couple times that I think Laurie killing him in that building would have been a great ending for him.
Cleanliness is next to not getting eaten by zombies-ness.I hope Carl cleans up that mess of papers this week.
