Stefan certainly does like a challenge. I don't think he's going to be able to convert Jamie, though.
who marries the same person twice? And then when they asked if he would go for a third time, he actually had pause and think about it
I'm lost. I was talking about Stefan flirting with a lesbian. What are you talking about?
Stefan was having a conversation with Tom and was asked if he had every been married. His response, "Yeah, twice...to the same woman". When Tom asked if he would go for her a third time, Stefan paused, made a sheepish gesture and finally said no. Just thought it was weird. I dunno, maybe its a European thing

Ok, guess I missed that part. I'll probably watch it again at some point.

glad that daniel got the boot

i had enough of him before the scene with him on the balcony lifting weights while talking with his team.

Pretty obvious Stefan is going to go far in this or they wouldn't have made so much effort last night painting him as the bad guy.

I was getting a little worried about the state of this show. Till tonight. Had all the elements that make this the best thing on TV. And it really looks like the people that are left are going to make for some solid drama as well.
:goodposting: Much better last night, and I was glad to see the right guy get booted. On a side note, I noticed a few weeks ago that they indicate Rasika is now the executive chef at Between Boutique Cafe, which is a block from my house. It's a new-ish place and I had avoided it mostly because of the dumb name, but I tried to go there on Monday to check it out. Turns out it's closed on Mondays. Will try again soon and report back.saintfool, cornhole at Between Boutique Cafe?

I do wonder if Eugene would have gotten the boot had Daniel not been so adamant that the dish was good. If he would have copped to more mistakes, then the onus kind of has to fall back on Eugene. Anyway, Rhadika used to be the sous chef at an Indian fusion restaurant here in Cincy called Mesh. Never made it there, but kind of pulling for her because of that.

I didn't know that. She should've known better than to try something new in Cincy. Plus, there's like 5 or 6 excellent Indian places already established in town.

Interesting--she was also chef at an Indian/Latin American fusion place here called Vermilion (still in existence and very good). I agree with you about Eugene--my boyfriend has been pulling from him from the beginning, and I told him last night he was toast...until Daniel kept defending the dish as good.

I decided that I'm pulling for the dude with the floppy hair.
The one that winks at the beginning of the show? I'd probably pull for him if someone hadn't pointed that out.Was a Eugene fan at the beginning but he really seems out of his league now. I don't know whom to root for. It won't be Stefan or the angry lesbian, though.

A few random thoughts from last night:

I was so glad to see Daniel go. His voice grated on me, and he seemed really dim and unsure of himself. And that doesn't even take into consideration his beard carvings.

I think Jaime might be a darkhorse. Eugene, Ariane, and even Fabio are proving to be pretenders IMO. I see Fabio lasting till the final 6 or so and then exiting before the finals.

The quickfire challenge was a great idea. Really shows who knows their stuff - to be able to take a few sips of a sauce and then name 8 ingredients...impressive to me.

Jeff has some skill, but he seems like the type prone to make a mistake that will cost him dearly. He's not composed and that will bite you on this show.

Anyone else laugh everytime they flash the name of Jeff's restaurant on the screen - Dilido Beach Club?

Obviously we are not the target for this show - no even remotely good looking chicks on this season.

i was on Eugene's side initially but he seems unable to think much beyond sushi. you are right, i think, in that he does seem out of his league. the more i see of hosea, more i like what he is doing. he seems very capable, especially after the "taste off"...

Eugene should have never admitted to trying to cover up and then serving overcooked rice. If I'm going to a restaurant, I don't want to hear "well I overcooked the rice, but I threw some #### on it to cover it up". Make a new freakin batch of rice or serve something different. While it's not a dealbreaker, I'd imagine the judges won't forget.

I got the impression that the people who did well were the ones able to identify the type of sauce and then rattle off the typical ingredients of that variety. I didn't think they necessarily tasted each of the individual ingredients.

it still so early, last season at this time richard almost went home for not properly scaling fish.

in my opinion

the strong:

jamie, stefan, hosea

maybe, next couple weeks will be key:

leah, fabio, jeff, radhika

get out:

eugene, carla, melissa, ariane

I agree with this.I think everyone knows that Ariane is not a serious contender after the watching the first few weeks, but it's interesting that she has managed to win 3 elimination challenges (or is it 2?). She has won by baking/roasting turkey, baking lamb, and making a salad. None of these were especially difficult and none show a real ability to "create" something. In fact, I don't even think she made the marinade for the lamb last night. Anyway, just rambling but I think some casual viewers may be thinking that she is for real based on her 2-3 wins in the past few weeks.

i figured that he wasn't able to make another 40+ person portion of rice. they had strict time, as well as budgetary, constraints. they weren't using uncle ben's rice after all. i suspect that they felt compelled to use the rice, despite the crummy results of the batch.

Oh, I agree, he should have served it like he had.But I wouldn't have said to the judges "yeah I overcooked it and tried to cover it up".

One more reason to ff through the opening.

:lmao: i find it funny every single timeAnd as long as they show Fabio's wife in every episode, that will make up for the lack of hotness in the cast :popcorn:As for Eugene, i think he had a good idea last night, but it just got out of control. Plus, it wasnt executed very well (see overcooked rice). He may be stuck in his Polynesian style of cooking, but every single dish Rhadika has made has had Indian influence and she is still seen as a strong competitor. She just executed them all very well, so she is not catching crap for it.

in previous seasons, some of the most successful chefs - in terms of competition at least - have been unwilling to branch out from their preferred style of cooking. ilan, for example, never seemed to go much beyond his latin training but won it all. marcel did his "molecular gastronomy" pretty much every week but made it to the end. the trouble with eugene's training is that sushi doesn't lend itself to every style of cooking, meal or challenge. top chef requires a little versatility and he's showing not much it at this point.

After seeing tonight, the top 4 in tonight's challenge are, IMO, the cream of the crop.

Stefan, Hosea, and Radhika look like they have their #### together and consistently are near the top. I'd put Jeff right up there with the 3 of them, although it seems like he occasionally puts together a bad dish.

Not sure how much longer Eugene and Melissa will be around. They both look like they're in over their heads...

Yeah, Eugene seems out of his league now more so than ever. He keeps talking about how he has no formal training and how thats supposed to be a good thing. Yet, it hurts him every time. Shame too, he seems like an interesting, and good, guy.

I thought tonights episode was as hypocritical as it gets. Tom gives his big lecture about how "no one is trying to win" and "you are all just playing it safe". Yet, every time someone takes a chance, they get eliminated.

Radhika is a poser. She doesn't do anything other than Indian. Somebody will pop up and say "Yeah, but that worked for Ilian..." Ilian sucked. That was the worst Top Chef season ever. I think the ones to watch are Stefan, Hosea, Fabio, Jeff and Leah. They're really the only ones that have a chance in the finals. But we'll see. Bravo likes angry lesbians, so Jamie probably has a shot too.One that's been flying under the radar is Carla. Sure, she looks like a freak, and has been in the bottom a few times. But every time she's on the bottom, they say hers was the only one that was good, and let her go.

A point was made on another site that I think applies. The fact is they are saying the chefs aren't doing anything fun, but turning around and awarding arianne a winner for doing things that are as boring as food can be. Then people go out on a limb and end up on the bottom. The mixed messages the judges are sending is probably just throwing them off quite a bit.

Only 4 chefs in my mind have a shot. Stefan, Hosea, Jeff, and Leah. There are some wildcards like Fabio and Jamie who will eventually hang themselves, and then the rest are just biding their time.

:hifive: Agree with everything here.

I agree. I don't think Leah has much of a shot, though. She seems lazy to me.

I can't stand looking at her face. I guess it makes sense that she's in the kitchen.

She makes some absolutely insane faces. Seems nice and all and she's done well.

Yeah, she's a nut, but I think she's okay. I can't stand the blonde. I want to stab her in the bangs.

 I know nothing about women's fashion or hair, but I do know she looks bad.

Jamie has to stop making scallopsFabio: This is Top Chef, not Top Scallops:excited:
:confused:That dirty euro shtick they painted on him early in the season has worn off. Pulling for him.
Fabio is a good dude. I'm pulling for him, Hosea and the evil Stefan. Not a big fan of the lesbian. She needs to take Jeff's Dilido out of her arss.
Is there an anti-Jeff faction in here? I kind of like that dude, too.
I still like him best. He's got that fatal flaw of taking too much on. Interested to see how it plays out.

I'm indifferent to him. Seems like a nice guy that works hard. And we all know where nice guys finish.
