Hey Boston, THIS JUST IN....

JERMAINE DYE IS BATTING .235 WITH .295 OBP THIS YEAR AND HE'S 33 YEARS OLD.
numbers since the break?
.262, .333, 8 HR, 17 RBIHe has basically had a good week and a half. I guess that makes him a can't miss for the rest of the season.

That +96 OPS must have Boston fans salivating.
.318, .382, 7HR, 13RBI since the break
Mine was the past 28 days. Close enough.

OMFG, LET'S TRADE HANSEN AND PENA FOR HIM RIGHT AWAY!!!11!!!!!

I don't think anyone can say that getting Dye doesn't help the RedSox.......but I don't think he is a savior by a long stretch. I don't think he provides anymore pop to the lineup......just gives them better options and versatility.

Dye immediately becomes much better then what we had on the bench previously. If you guys can't see that, I am not sure what to tell you
What?
Are you arguing that Wily Mo is a better bench OF then Dye? So Sox are looking at closer by committee now I presume, should be fun! Although it probably won't happen until playoffs (barring a 12 inning game) I can't wait to see an Oki-Gagne-Pap's finish

Our hate for the NorthLeast baseball teams is about the only thing we'll agree on, methinks.

Really don't want Dye to be honest. I know we could use another bat off the bench....but I don't want to leave the cupboards bare for years to come. Dye is a nice defensive option too...I dunno, I like Drew/Crisp/Manny out there.

Pena is useless and they have 8 - 10 pitching prospects better than Hansen on the farm. Not much to give up for a guy who was 4th in MVP voting last year, and showing signs of breaking out in the second half. :D

By the way you guys have been complaining about Drew and Pena......I would say there was a real need for a bigger bat in the lineup.

Hey, the Sox are getting a slightly better version of Steve Balboni. Good for them.

My bad. I forgot that Boston has JD Drew who is better than Dye. :goodposting:

Pena is useless? You continue to amaze me. Did 2006 mean nothing to you? Oh wait, it does since you're partially trying to justify the trade based on Dye's 2006.

:goodposting:This isn't a comment on the deal at all, but Red Sox fans ALWAYS think they have 8-10 prospects on the farm better than random major league regulars.
See Hanson, Craig 2006. Everybody in the New England quadrant thought Hansen was the second coming of Mariano Rivera. Now, he's scrap against the power of a 33 year old fading OF.

You don't need to tell me what New Englanders think of the Sox farm system.

working from home, ESPN just said Gagne was going to Boston, so it sounds a little more official now.

Amy Nelson from ESPN.com, "restructuring Gagne's contract (guaranteed incentives) changing them to games finished as well as include moving costs"

He is useless in his current role of playing once a week, yes. He needs to play every day to develop, won't ever happen here. This is not groundbreaking news, it's a fact. Thank God he had a couple of good games last week or this deal probably wouldn't have happened.

Not at all. I was just merely expounding upon your comment to the masses.

Doesn't he have to waive his no trade first?

As happy as I will be about the Sox getting Gagne, I will be disappointed if they don't get a righty bat. I guess there is always the possibility of waivers, but I would like to see them make some move now

I agree with you in that he needs more PT and he probably won't get that in Bahston. But Jermaine Dye is not the player he was in 2006, and despite his recent flash of success, he's probably won't return to the 2006 level. If you're going to trade Pena, trade him for something more than a 4th OF.

ESPN saying that "Gagne wants to get moving costs included. "

if that is the last hurdle, then consider this one done

With Gagne in the pen, barring injury the Sox become such a heavy WS favorite that I wouldn't really worry about it.

Phoenix hates Barry Bonds and the Cubs. Pretty much my opposite.

Kyle Davies for Octavio Dotel is what's being discussed right now on ESPN.

What is it about the trade deadline that makes contending teams mentally deficient?

I don't really think there is a huge market out there for Willy Mo. The Sox will not offer him arbitration over the winter so he is as good as gone. Other teams are not going to be offering a lot up for a guy they can get in the offseason if they really want him.

And I love the "barring injury" part, too. Because you can totally count on Eric Gagne being healthy. :D

Davies sucks and Atlanta needs more bullpen help maybe?Schuerholz has a pretty good track record and if he is willing to offer up Davies, he obviously doesn't think much of the guy.
