Official US Women's soccer thread: ***Update- Christen Press retires (3 Viewers)

Huge, easy foul call missed on the US end, followed by one of the weakest penalties I've ever seen called.  This ref has not been consistent at all this game.

Okay, Lalas better go off about Dunn. Because she played a hell of a lot better game today than she did against France.

Luckily Morgan didn't have her foot planted.  Those are ankle breakers.

I thought the 2nd yellow was a bit weak. Studs were up, but she got the ball.

Doesn't matter if she got ball. Went over it. That could have been straight red.
Misfit...what the other guys said. That tackle wasn't even fair in the old days. That was a leg-breaker.

And if Morgan didn't ride the tackle- what most people see as flopping or diving-  and get off her plant foot, she'd have been finished for the tournament or longer.

Hated that pk call. Yes, there was contact on the backswing...and maybe that's the new letter of the law, but nothing and nowhere else for the defender to go or do there.

Also didn't like how the US over-committed on every challenge over that 15 minutes to try to win the ball instead of keeping their heads and forcing the English to play the ball back. Too many opportunities for the Brits to make the easy turn and find open space going to go goal.

Don't let the player get by you and have to chase.  Easy PK call when you hit her as she tries to shoot.

Very poorly taken PK too.  Easy save.

Either team deserved it.  Go USA

I agree after watching replay.  Guess I'm just caught in my old school playing days where physical play ruled the day.  I will always love the game, but have soured on it a bit recently with all the diving and rolling around on the ground.  In real time it looked pretty innocuous, but after watching the replay I was wrong..
I played through college in the late 80s and for a few semipro years afterwards.... most of what gets called now, wasn't then. Most of what is given a yellow now, wasn't even a foul then  But yeah, if you went over the ball studs up- yugh, was usually intentional and/or trying to wreck a guy for the game or longer.

The defending there and way too much elsewhere was really poor.

Thank goodness the Brit flubbed it. That first half save was waaay better than the PK save.
