***OFFICIAL*** Washington Commanders Thread (3 Viewers)

It feels like there's a little bit of magic with this team. My son walked into the room in time to see the hail mary play unfold, I had just told him it wasn't looking good, like the words had barely left my mouth and then suddenly we were screaming and high-fiving while my wife looked on like her boys had gone insane. Pretty much a perfect afternoon.

Dang I don’t know if anybody just heard it but Brian Robinson on the junkies just gave a roast of a quote about Stevenson. This is paraphrasing because I was driving but “those four seconds indicate exactly who he was as a player as a person and as a teammate Throughout that entire game.” that’s pretty strong words in a league where people avoid media fallout.

Last Sunday's game was a lot closer at the end than it should have been. But the D looked amazing in the first half. Robinson should be back this week.

"New Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore didn’t play in his final game with the Saints because of a hamstring injury. As it turns out, it wasn’t a “hamstring” injury.

Lattimore wasn’t being put on ice to ensure he’d be healthy in advance of a trade. He was, and still is, injured. As evidenced by the fact that he didn’t practice on Wednesday, his first official day of work with the Commanders."

At the beginning of the season, any of us would have been happy with 7-4 at this point. I am, but I'm still not too happy with the beatdown the offense took against the Eagles Thursday night. Daniels does NOT look right to me -- his passes don't come out with the same zip as earlier in the season and they're less accurate, often too low. The offensive line was terrible. I mean, they're playing far better than I thought they would this year but they're still a weak o-line and playing a good defense really exposed that.

Ben Standig's got a good writeup in the Athletic.
Here it is cached if you don't have an Athletic subscription: https://archive.ph/halFY

"Dan Quinn did not hesitate. Not on the “bold” decision midway through the fourth quarter to go for it on fourth-and-2 while in field goal range and the scoreboard showing a two-point deficit. It was the same when the Washington Commanders’ head coach opened his postgame presser by explaining where it all went wrong. “We were prepared for the moment,” Quinn said. “I didn’t love the execution.”

The specific play — quarterback Jayden Daniels tackled for no gain on an outside run — involved the rookie not shouting loud enough for the snap as 70,000 opposing fans roared. Offensive linemen weren’t on the same page, and there was general awkwardness from a group that’s been a model of efficiency throughout the season."

Emmanuel Forbes waived.

New regime be like Draft capital? Wasn't my draft pick.
What happened to him? Personal turmoil? I don't recall anyone thinking it was a reach when they chose him, but my memory ain't what it used to be.

He's a little light in the seat of his pants - 166 at the combine, though he might have put on more since then. He was pretty bad on run D and he missed a lot of tackles Y1, plus he got roasted pretty badly by elite WRs. Seems like the new coaches just never gave him much of a chance (thumb surgery, only 108 snaps after he came back.). Dude can fly (4.35), somebody will pick him and think they can fix him.

IIRC it was debatable if he was Rd 1 guy or a Day 2 corner. He had a bit of a flukey college career (6 pick sixes? sumtin' crazy) but when you broke down the tape he wasn't much of a mirror corner, mostly a off zone corner who was able to time up his breaks to be a good ballhawk at the SEC level.

IDK this is the kind of guy the Ravens (or Lions) would develop for three years. Not a fan of giving up on players quickly but we'll see what he's made of I guess.

I'll always remember Forbes to be the player the 'skins selected ahead of Christian Gonzales (OOF!!!)...for whom the Patriots, picking right behind the 'skins, after a moment of stunned, silent disbelief at the good fortune falling into their laps, sent their rep scurrying up to the podium so fast that he almost broke his leg rushing to submit their selection card to the Commish.

I don't clearly remember how I expressed my outrage with the selection, but man, was I pissed off.

That sure worked out well.

Sources: Commanders DT Jonathan Allen could return this season

John Keim of ESPN.com reports that surgeons found that Allen only suffered a partial tear of his pec in Week Six. That created hope that Allen could work his way back before the Commanders are done playing and subsequent checks by doctors have not ruled that out. Allen is reportedly trying to get cleared to return before the end of the year, but a playoff berth would extend the window for him to make it back on the field.
He doesn't want to miss a possible playoff game.
Imagine that, Washington players trying to get back from injury to play in the playoffs. Been awhile since we've had that happen.

I don't follow Washington that closely, but Allen has always seemed like a great guy to me. I hope he's able to make it back if the team makes the playoffs after all of the crap he's had to endure from the prior regime.

This is a huge game for the Commanders. They need to bank a win here and one more. I think 10 will get them in.

Think WAS could get to 11 wins. 10 wins could come down to tiebreakers with a team from the NFC West.

I'm wrestling with Commanders or Cardinals defense. Leaning Commanders due to the depleted Saints matchup plus Cards played terribly last week vs Seahawks.

I did not in any way think they could win this game. And when the Eagles rolled up 21 quick points I almost turned it off. But I stuck around like I've been used to doing for the last bunch of years --- waiting for the final dagger play to completely kill their hopes. Strangely, that play never came.

Daniels is so good under pressure, it's contagious, and I still think the whole team is still playing beyond their abilities. But damn can they be fun to watch. The defensive change to sell out to stop Barkley worked really well and was a big part of the win.
5 turnovers and we win, against a very good playoff-bound Eagles team. I will stop dancing and will put my clothing back on tomorrow. :pickle:

Bobby Wagner on Jayden Daniels: "Man, It's special. What he's able to do—his composure. We joke around a lot, but his maturity to be able to have that composure is just amazing. "And shout out to him for letting me borrow these headphones."

Bobby Wagner raved about Jayden Daniels’ work ethic when asked by Ben Standig what makes the rookie QB similar to the other great QBs he’s played with:“That is something he did from the moment he got in here. He worked. You guys are seeing the product of it out there.”

Jayden Daniels said he noticed the Eagles has 12 on the field before throwing to OZ for their 2nd TD.

Dan Quinn on Friday: “If you want to be a contender, you have to beat some heavy hitters."

Postgame today on Jayden Daniels: "He became a heavy hitter today."

Yes it mattered that Jalen Hurts was knocked from the game. Always a different game. But: Jayden Daniels three 3 TD passes in the 4th quarter. They scored 36 points despite 5 turnovers and no run game vs arguably the NFL’s best D. Think about that.

From an outsiders observation I am most impressed with Daniels composure. He does not appear to ever get rattled and plays with an uncanny, veteran-like calmness. I admittedly did not see him transitioning into anything like he has played this year. Good for you guys, you deserve it after being abused by arguably history’s worst professional sports team owner ever for years.

Let's look ahead: Will Brian Robinson be in Quinn's doghouse vs. Atlanta? He's really all we have at RB (other than Daniels, of course) and if he can hold on to the ball (perhaps a big if) he could bring some needed balance to the offense and greatly increase our odds of winning in week 17.

I'm going to say the same thing in this thread that I did in the Falcons thread: I can't remember the last time two rookie QBs went against each other this late in the season with both teams still in playoff contention. It's a good NBC decided to put this one on Sunday Night.

This is me, too. I grew up in Maryland, but as a Colts fan. As such, I was born & bred to hate the Skins. But so many of my friends are Washington fans.

I am SO happy for you guys. After all of the garbage and mismanagement over decades, you finally have a stable organization. And a superstar at QB who is tailor-made for this franchise - I mean, at this point, someone is going to have to show me videos of him murdering kittens with a chainsaw to get me off of his bandwagon (& I'll still ask for more evidence).

I'd thought they'd lose yesterday, but that was a huge win for the franchise in the macro. Go get the rest of them (unless it's the Ravens).

It would be great to see a BW Parkway Super Bowl!
