Seriously, you woulda thought Sanchez was  bottom of the barrel.  Who do they bring in?  TJ Yates, Tolzien, Bradford, Cutler?  Who else did they look at when they kicked Sancheez tires? I feel like Gruden is gonna have a Herm Edwards type presser soon.

When you are looking at Kellen Clemens then either the pickings are extremely slim or the people looking for QB is lazy as ####.

I was listening on the radio towards the end. Sounds like it was a classic Gruden hurry up offense down two scores in the fourth, which even included a delay of game penalty!

Assuming McCoy had not broken his leg, I'd still disagree with you. If they lose this game tonight they're effectively in third place in the division, and that ends that. Dallas is playing well, Wentz is slowly returning to form, and the Redskins are remembering 5-2.

 
Did anyone else notice that on Sanchez's first pass play he got sacked and fumbled, recovering the ball by his butt?

...and yet, even with McCoy finished, the Redskins host the Giants this week, and it's not 100% out of the question they win that game, putting them at 7-6. In the same week, Carolina, (6-6) who doesn't look any better than the 'skins over the last 4 weeks, travels to Cleveland, which is no picnic anymore, and the Buccaneers (5-7) travel to New Orleans, which should be their final nail in the coffin. Eagles (6-6) @ Cowboys (7-5) and Vikings (6-5-1) @ Seahawks (7-5) are  on this Week 14 NFL slate...

...while Weeks 15-17 are no picnic, it's not inconceivable that we beat the Giants, and are right back in the mix by this time next week. I'm not optimistic about the Sanchez-led 'skins going on any kind of winning run, but he was brought in largely due to his past working relationship with 3 Redskins offensive coaches, and some familiarity with the scheme. He'd been with the Team, what, less than 2 weeks prior to last night, and almost assuredly ceded any reps with the starting skill position players to Colt, who needed as many reps as he could get to prep for last night's game. Sanchez will get as many reps as he can handle this week to get his timing down, and while he has many valid issues, his football IQ isn't in question, and picking up the terminology shouldn't be an issue. Again, the Giants is a winnable game, and if that works out, every week that passes gets Sanchez more familiar and comfortable with the offense, the players and the coaches. Statistically, there's only a minimal chance any NFL Team, much less one with one foot in the grave, win both back-to-back road games, but going 1-1 is not out of the question, given the quality of the opponents.

Going out a limb, that puts the 'skins at 8-7 going into Week 17 hosting Phildelphia, with Sanchez now having about 6 weeks time served...

Next 3-4 weeks:

Eagles: @ Cowboys, @ Rams, vs Texans - that's quite possibly an 0-3 run, putting them at 6-9, and playing for nothing going into our 2nd meeting in Week 17

Panthers: in addition to @ Browns this week, they get the Saints twice, it's very likely they finish 8-8

Vikings: besides the Week 14 visit to the Seahawks, they draw the Bears in Week 17. I don't think an 8-7-1 predicted finish is off-base.

Don't look now, but 9-7 is a playoff-caliber record for an NFC WC berth.

I'm quite possibly the least optimistic Redskins fan on this board, but in 50 years, I've seen my share of strange. Stranger things have happened than the above scenario playing out...

 
Jonathan Cooper has a torn bicep, out for season.

Bergstrom went out injured (ankle); no word on how bad but he was on crutches. Nsekhe played RG for him. He was the last OL left. Tim Settle was the emergency OLman. McGee was being shown on sideline what to do on FG/PAT unit (replacing someone hurt).

Moreau hurt his knee.

 
The defense, which is mostly healthy, is amid a severe five-game regression in which it has allowed 429.2 yards per game.

The run defense, once the team’s greatest strength, has allowed 134.4 rushing yards per game the past five weeks. For the season, the defense is now allowing 367.4 yards per game and 5.8 yards per play. Even though this defense is better, those numbers are much worse than last season’s. Last year, Washington gave up 347.9 yards per game and 5.3 yards per play.

As the head coach, Gruden now has a 9-10 record after Dec. 1. If you expand and look at his record after Nov. 1 — essentially the second half of every season — it is even worse: 16-23. Under Gruden, Washington tends to be erratic in September, excellent in October, troubling in November and out of gas in December.

And Chris Thompson had no business being on the field last night. He shied away from contact repeatedly. A WR can get away with that, but not a RB.

For the 27th consecutive year, Washington will not win 11 games. Every other franchise in the NFL has done it at least once in that span.

 
Jay Gruden said in the Tuesday conference call that they brought in (dear Lord) Landry Jones and Ryan Mallett for workouts.   

I feel dirty just typing that.

So the Skins sign a guy who's been on 11 previous NFL teams, and hasn't thrown an NFL pass since December 11, 2011?  

Wow, what a 1-2 punch Buttfumble and Joshin' will make.... 

 
Since their bye week the Giants are 3-1.  That one loss to Philadelphia would probably have been a win if they had actually given the ball to Barkley in the second half...

This is going to be a tough game, and not just due to injuries...

BTW, Alex Smith is still in the hospital after broken-leg surgery, because he now has an infection where the operation took place.

Not expected to be ready at the beginning of 2019 season.

"No one has been able to definitively say he is going to play football going forward," Rapoport said. "Of course everyone hopes that he is, but if you're the Washington Redskins the reality is Smith is unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2019 season. They know right now they do need to find a quarterback to at least begin the season with. It's just unclear whether that's going to come in free agency or potentially in the draft.

They sure look prepared, motivated, and resiliant today.

The front office response to this game today will probably be to repaint the seats a darker color so it's hard to see how many of them are empty.

 
‘Nobody should be comfortable at Redskins Park’

It’s time for the Redskins to fire team president Bruce Allen. They should not wait until after the season or even until Sunday, when they host the New York Giants at an empty FedEx Field. Allen’s exit can’t come quickly enough as part of a teamwide teardown.

Just like Green Bay fired coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday to get a head start on finding his replacement, Washington needs to ready a new general manager to pick a next coach, who will then choose the next quarterback. Otherwise, nothing will change for this franchise of fools.
