***Official*** Washington Redskins 2014 Thread (In-Season) (1 Viewer)

LOL. Could these clowns be any worse? Getting shut out by Tampa Bay??? They have two great WR's and a dream schedule against some of the worst defenses in the League, and they still can't get out of their own way. What a worthless POS franchise this has become.

A loss today, and the horses are gone for the rest of the season. It'll become like the end of Zorn's last season and the end of last season - disarray, drama.
Here it comes.

Who's Gruden going to blame? Griffin? Morris? Hatcher?

When are the anonymous disgruntled reports going to come out from the front office?

And from the locker room?

Gruden starting to blame the offense for the defense's performance in press conference.

"Did nothing whatsoever at beginning of the third quarter. Nothing"

Criticizing Griffin.

"nobody proved they should start anywhere based on today's performance"

"playing hard, too many mental mistakes"

"blown coverages led to TD's in the second half"

"hoping we'll compete no matter what our record is"

Great. HC lowering the standard from winning to competing.

"Thought it was smart just to run the clock out and lick our wounds."

Still talking about the whole game in terms of what Griffin has to improve on. WTF?

What a great weekend of football, no headache or toying with my emotions. Beware, we usually lose the games we are supposed to win and win the games we are supposed to lose. We should beat TB and for some reason that scares the crap out of me.
Yep, what he said...

I think there is only one weapon the Bucs can hurt the 'Skins with...Mike Evans. Big question will be can McCown get him the ball on a regular basis, since Bucs OL is horrible and we rush/blitz aggressively?
Why can I see this and a paid professional in Haslett not? Oh and no pressure all game against one of the worst OLs in the NFL. We suck ###!!!

I don't see anything wrong with Gruden's press conference, what's the problem?

Because the coaching has been garbage all season yet he continues to criticize his players. Gruden has obviously lost this team and is pissed about it.

Blaming the defense's performance on the offense.

Lowering the standard from winning to 'competing'.

Little criticism of coaching staff, which hasn't improved from week to week.

Speaking as though the QB was the main problem in the game.

Telling the team to give up and run out the clock.

What press conference and game did you watch?

Blaming the defenses performance on the offense? He specifically said they blew coverages.

I agree he needs to be calling out his own coaching staff, but every single thing he DID say was true.

Very early in the press conference he was asked something about being disgusted by the defense last game, and whether he was still disgusted by their performance. The first thing he said was that the offense was putting them in bad positions. So yeah, blaming the defense's performance on the offense was the first thing he said about the defense in his PC today.

I don't think a guy should be calling out his players when that guy hasn't shown he can do his own job.

So far Gruden hasn't shown he can coach at an NFL HC level. Get a winning season or two under his belt and then maybe he can call out players, but if you're a winning coach you seldom if ever need to do that. Gruden's won nothing at the HC level. His team is 3-7, and none of the 3 units on his team are playing well. He's proven nothing so far.

So far Gruden's like Ryan Clark -- a guy who no one in the locker room will say anything bad about because they respect him, but who we can see week after week is doing poorly at his job.

Maybe Gruden will develop into a good head coach; maybe he won't. It's too early to tell. But he looks like an incompetent ### clown when he continues to call out players, then puts a team on the field the next week that looks just as unprepared and unable as the week before. He looks unable to do his job well so far, and like he likes blaming players for it.

The best that can be said about Gruden, the absolute best, is that he's a "work in progress". If anyone in the organization said that out loud they'd be a classless ### clown.

Telling the truth doesn't necessarily make a good press conference.

Trent Murphy had 2 tackles today. Kerrigan had 3. Forbath missed 2 FG's that I saw. It's hard to find someone who had a good game besides Alfred Morris. Helu did look good on his TD reception. That was a good playcall, and Griffin did a good job getting the ball off before being knocked over backwards. Helu did the rest. So there's that anyway....

Then again, he also fumbled twice. Silver lining: the other team only got one of those.

we have a stud RB. We have 3 very good WRs. We have adequate TEs. Yet 7 points. There are two glaring holes. OL. QB. neither are good.

Griffin has not adapted to the speed on the nfl. He is not seeing the blitzes. He is not making his reads. He is missing open WRs. He is not moving in the pocket. He has happy feet. So everyone just blitzes the hell out of him. The OL looks significantly worse when he is our qb. There's a reason for that. There's a reason shanny benched him. There's a reason gruden seems to care less if he's the qb. Coaches see he doesn't have it. Players seem to see he doesn't have it. The front office just forces him on the coach oblivious to the fact his qb skills are mediocre. Griffin seems like a good guy and I wish he had worked out, but it's time for this team to move on.

Are cousins or McCoy the answer. Probably not The next Redskins qb is not on this roster. I'd go find a veteran that's got 4-6 years of reasonable play left but is on the outs with their current team. Someone like Eli manning. Fix the OL. Fix safety.

Gotta love Washington fans. You think RG3 sucks but Eli is the answer. Wow.

####### pity party in here. Get over it. The line sucks. The safeties suck, the CBs are too young to play lights out for 4 quarters. That right there costs games. More times than not. It just does. Blame anyone else on this team or coaching staff, and you are an idiot.

I'm assuming you're talking about the offensive line, and you'd be right about them. But you left out the defensive line, and Perry Riley. You left out the defensive coordinator. You left out the offensive playcalling.

I won't call you an idiot, though.

Thanks for the humor. :lmao:

Eli?

"probably not"?

Fix the offensive line and the playcalling and the offense is just fine.

My bad on letting Haslett off the hook. I stand by the rest.

I was one of the few who stayed at FedEx to the end.

Short on talent on offense (OL without Trent Williams is a turnstile). Short on talent on defense. Poor play calling on offense and defense. There were a couple of times that even I could tell at snap that the Bucs were going to go to Evans, but Skins did not give any help.

They are just a bad team, all around.

LOL, I forgot the fumbles. I've been down on Helu all year, I try to say something good about him, and he subverts me.

When Trent went out and Morgan Moses went in to replace him it looked like they were putting a TE next to Moses to help him out. Later I didn't see the TE there as much. I have to admit, I walked out of the room in disgust multiple times, but I didn't hear Moses's name called. Usually for a new starter on defense that's a good thing. How did he play? I know earlier in the season on the right side he was slow as hell.

This is like Norv, version 2. Except with more losses.

Last week, Gruden said the Redskins were “a play here, a play there . . . close to being 7-2 instead of 3-6.”
He didn't realize then, a week ago, how truly bad things were going with the team. Maybe he does now, maybe he never will, I don't know.

I wish someone would invent a machine (like in total recall) where I could "believe" I'm a life long Packers fan, so I could enjoy watching a good football team every weekend, year in and year out. Its miserable being a Skins fan in your 40s or older. You experienced the wonderful 80s and very early 90, only to be let down the last 2 decades....ughhh

This is Haslett’s 13th consecutive season, as a defensive coordinator or head coach, of producing mediocre to awful defenses. This year, they’re 22nd so far after 31st last year. Before that: 22, 21, 21, 31, 31, 28, 28, 27, 14, 26 and 27. So, Haz’s average rank in points allowed over all those years is 26th out of 32. Even if his players are bad, how good can he be?

Just another example of retreads being popular in the NFL for some reason. I don't get it.

GB was pretty bad in the 70s and 80s.

Keim's normally not real critical and concentrates on analysis. But this is the only analysis he's left with now.

From that article.

Because when you look at this franchise, its tough to know where to pin your hope. On the owner who has never seen one of this teams post winning records in consecutive seasons? On the general manager who has never been the main person in charge of constructing a football team? On the coach who is now 3-7 in his first season after a 27-7 loss to previously one-win Tampa Bay? On the quarterback who once upon a time looked like the future of the game but now, two years later, theres doubt about him even being the future of this franchise.

Those just happen to be the five most important parts of a franchise. And, in each case, theres zero proof to suggest that they can be successful in their jobs.
Can you trust Bruce Allen, the general manager, and owner Dan Snyder to enter the offseason with the necessary blueprint to turn it around? If you do, based on what? Yes, weve again reached the point where this is again under debate.

I don't get it either. I didn't get it when he retained Haslett. I'm pretty sure Haslett has pictures of Dan Snyder in compromising positions with goats.

Trent Williams does not have a torn ACL.

Williams said Sunday, Nov. 16, that he was relieved there is no damage to his anterior cruciate ligament, but he is still concerned about a potential medial collateral ligament injury. 'You never know,' Williams said. 'MCL's, sometimes they make take two weeks. Sometimes they take six to eight weeks.'
First thing I thought when I read that is that Williams won't be playing the rest of this year.

The defense sucked when they blitzed and sucked when they didn't.

When the blitz doesn’t work, things get ugly. On the 51-yard pass to Mike Evans, the Redskins sent seven rushers. Linebacker Trent Murphy went wide and it appeared safety Brandon Meriweather was supposed to blitz inside, and be free. But Jason Hatcher also rushed wide and blocked Meriweather’s path. The other six rushers were blocked and Josh McCown had time to hit Evans over Tracy Porter.
Thing is, on the 56-yard touchdown pass to Evans in the fourth quarter, the Redskins only sent four defenders. Meriweather blitzed to the outside and Ryan Kerrigan stunted to the middle, where he was doubled. So the Bucs used six blockers to stop four – and linebacker Perry Riley was still one-on-one with Evans and easily beaten.

Gruden said in his news conference that there were a lot of mental mistakes. I don’t doubt that for a second. But my question to Clark was: Do they make too many – or is it just that they hurt them more? Here’s Clark: “I played with some of the best players who played defense and a lot of them made a lot of mistakes,” he said. “But they made great plays as well. Those things balance out. If you have a guy who misses the flat or misses the middle of the field, but he gets a pick or forces a fumble, that’s how teams are good. Players are going to make mistakes. Someone has to pick it up with a play.” The Redskins’ defense makes mistakes; they lack players who make up for them.
