Weird stats of the day:

Redskins offense is ranked #7 in the NFL

Redskins defense is ranked #11 in the NFL

Who knew?

Great game to watch regardless, nice to come out on top. As gloomy as it seems at times, last night had a few glimpses of some great things to come. Exciting to see Breeland perform so well and even Murphy seemed to do a more than adequate job for his first start. Our defense looked outstanding and players really stepped up. I will say this again and again, I LOVE DJAX...he is amazing to watch and I find myself sitting on the edge of my seat everytime the ball is thrown his way or if its in his hands. Colt didn't help him, but you can see what would have happened had he led him on several plays. Great game!!!

MIN still boycotting the name? I may want this next game more than last night if so.
I don't know it anyone else noticed, but the white part in the middle of front of helmet under face mask normally says "Redskins" in our font, but that was missing last night. Good Game Skins fans. You took it to us today. Quality win.
Thanks man. I hate the Cowboys, utterly hate them. But Cowboys fans are pretty good people. We'll see you again later this year.

They shoulda left Weeden in.
I'll speak for myself. Hate your team too, but find Washington fans the most reasonable to talk to about Football in general. I love nothing more then exchanging opinions pre and post game and share insights, then cheer like hell. That's what makes it all fun, you guys seem to get this too. I am always good to share a good game after regardless of the outcome.

I think you guys could still battle for a WC spot. Beware of the let down after a big divisional win though. Should be an interesting late season rematch.

One thing we've learned with our team is we win some games we have no right winning and then we lose games that we are supposed to win. LOL, for the past few decades, we also lose a lot of games that we are supposed to lose too.

As for the banter, I agree. Unfortunately, we both have some of our fanbases have some idiots and can't communicate in any civil way and make all of us SMH or :wall:

The bolded is exceptionally true. Minnesota away on a short week has "let down game" written all over it.

If Griffin starts though perhaps that will give them an extra jolt and counteract the inevitable "mental relaxation..."

Just wanted to tip my hat to the Redskins. As a Cowboy's fan I must say I never feel comfortable playing you guys. It's always difficult to sustain drives on offense and equally as difficult getting stops defensively. Washington deserved that win. Congrats!

What's the inside scoop on whether Griffin will be ready to go vs. Minnesota? I guess we'll have to wait and see who gets first team reps this week. As cagey as Gruden is wants to be, he seems like big "rep guy" so I imagine his cards will be shown Wed/Thur...

Absolutely, Breeland has invigorated hope for our defense and its future for sure! Covering Dez for most of game, he surely ate his Wheaties yesterday!!!
Breeland's development really shows the critical importance of talent evaluation to the future of the Redskins organization. We simply will not have enough first round picks to select "can't miss studs" at OL and safety over the next several years. Hopefully though we are starting to see some potential at corner...

Guessing this is by total yardage? If so I suspect part of this is that we have had field position issues due to turnovers and special teams, which mean our scoring drives are often long and our opponents' scoring drives are often short. According to DVOA our offense was 20th and our defense was 17th last week, that should jump a little after last night but not that much. Even so, I'm surprised we're in that vicinity. I would have had us pegged for the bottom third of the league in both categories.

In better news ... holy #### do we actually have an excellent young cornerback on the roster? Good God it's been a long long time since we had that.

I've been thinking last night, in all my years of watching Redskins football (91-now), has there been a better coached game than that? Honestly, I can't think of one. What a great job the coaches did from Gruden to Haslett to McVay to Morris to Kowtica (or however you spell the ST coach's name). Every single one of the coaches should be proud. Their gameplan worked to perfection last night. Well done.

Yeah by total yardage. Even still, I wasn't expecting to see those numbers. Inflated? Probably, but considering we had a bottom-tier defense last year, 11th is pretty good.

Breeland played as well of a game as I've seen from a Redskins CB in a long time. Maybe a little Champ Baileyish.

I thought they should showcase Colt and then trade him for a 1st round pick or more.

Side note...is Haslett redeeming himself in everyone's eyes now? Just a few weeks ago, everyone was on the "Haslett has to go" bandwagon but honestly the defense hasn't played that poorly for most of the season. Even against superior opponents like Arizona and Seattle they kept us in the game...it was more offensive turnovers and general ineptitude that got us there...

Please make it stop!

Seriously, getting a 4th or 5th for Cousins would look awful good right now. That said, he probably will sign a deal elsewhere. Someone will take a shot at redeeming him as a backup because he is not without skills if he can get the turnovers under control...

Happy Bashaud Breeland Day everyone!!!
From now on, every day is Bashaud Breeland Day.

Linky

  1. Breeland saved the Redskins on a late series, starting with chasing down DeMarco Murray to tackle him at the 6-yard line. He then defended a fade to Bryant and then, on the next play, stopped a slant route. Again: competitor. "I wasn't really jawing him," Breeland said. "I was just showing him I'm here, too." And then he made the deflection on the fourth-down play. Oh, he stripped Murray on a fumble earlier in the game, too.

A little, but for me it's going to take more than a couple weeks of decent play to outweigh years of mediocrity or worse. Maybe if they keep this up all season.

At first, I was amazed at all the trading Cousins for a 1st rounder talk. Then when it kept coming up again and again, I thought it was absolutely ridiculous.

Cooley proposed this on the radio during the last offseason and I think he is probably right. McCoy was signed to be the long term backup to Griffin. There won't be any controversy as McCoy knows his role. And Cousins will be traded after this season.

The only update is how much as Cousins hurt his trade value? If they can only get a 7th rounder for him, they might keep him as a backup or 3rd stringer. But once his rookie contract is up, I suspect he will leave for another team.

Wow. I was very pleasantly suprised last night.

Hope they sit RG until the bye. We play like that again against Minny, we won't need him. Then he can come back healthy with a nice tune up against Tampa. And then we might actually be in the playoff mix.

Hopes not exactly up, its a long road back to respectibility for us... but the fire hasn't been extinguished yet either.

Agreed. For some reason, Haslett always has a good gameplan against the Cowboys. Would it surprise anyone if Bridgewater throws for 300yd and 2TDs next week? I want to see Haslett do this consistently. Not just against one team thay he really gets up for.

@ SF and then @ IND after a cross-country trip is brutal.

Monday night had the highest rating since 2010 Dallas vs. Giants. Put on a great show last night. Very exciting game.

Great win for the Redskins. I liked the "we have nothing to lose" defensive playcalling. Basically send everybody and make them beat you one-on-one in the passing game. When guys like Breeland step up to that challenge, it can make the defense really powerful.

The Cowboys never really adjusted to this. I think other teams will, which is why the Redskins can't use it all the time. It is a nice weapon, though, to have in their arsenal.

Reed's catch on the sideline on the OT drive was amazing. To look back, reach inside to catch the ball, while still being able to keep your feet in bounds was a thing of beauty. Was that a third down and were they out of FG range if

he doesn't make that catch? If so, that was the game winning catch.

Breeland was just outstanding last night. We seldom heard Amerson's name, even though he was having a good game, because Breeland kept making great plays. Speaking of not hearing names, I never heard Trent Murphy's name. With a rookie making his first start that's a good thing; if you hear their name it's usually due to a glaring mistake. He only had 1 tackle, but he avoided big mistakes.

Ryan Clark looks slow as hell by the way.

I am assuming they'll come out slow and blundering against Minnesota because we've seen them do that so often before. Hopefully I'm wrong.

And someone said last night's game was well-coached. It was. Well-coached and well-played. Best game they've played in a long time.

He nearly made a Kerrigan-esque play when he tipped a pass up in the air and then almost grabbed it for the INT.

Just going of memory here, but I think Haslett has historically favored blitzing Romo. On the flip side, I think he tends to not blitz Eli and play coverage.

It's weird to say that a QB who went 25-30-299 missed some things. I certainly don't want to sound too critical and overall I'm very pleased to get that kind of game out of a 3rd string QB. However, as we've discussed, he struggled leading Desean and they could have had a much bigger day offensively had some of his passes been better. I still favor going to Griffin as soon as he's ready. I see no reason to sit him out longer if he's physically back to normal. As mentioned, it's exciting to think what this offense and these receivers can do with better QB play.

BTW, 4 of the 5 Colt incompletions were to Andre Roberts. I remember the INT, a slight overthrow in Q3 (I think) on a corner route causing the Redsking to go 3-and-out and a short pass broken up by a LB on their last drive of Q4 (I think). I don't remember the other one off the top of my head. His 5th incompletion was one that Desean probably should have caught, but was really underthrown and could have been a TD had it been a better throw.

McCoy commented on Desean's speed after the game. I remember Robert also making comments about it during training camp and there were reports he was underthrowing him regularly. I guess that's kind of a nice problem to have: our WR is too fast!

I don't get to completely focus on the announcers while at the bar (thank god). Is it me or was Jon Gruden completely railing on McCoy every chance he got? Every time I noticed Gruden talking when he wasn't kissing the Cowboys' ### he was ripping McCoy. Is that accurate, or just caught him at the wrong times?

Wasn't just you.

Gruden has grown on me, but it seems evident that he's not going to bash his brother for anything.

How long until defenses start playing their safeties 20 yards off the LOS to help out with DJax? Maybe that's when we start to see Garcon get his? And the running game gets a little more space?

Washington’s receivers weren’t too happy at halftime. It doesn’t take a lot of digging to realize why. The starting three combined for seven targets in the first two quarters of Monday night’s win at Dallas. Meanwhile, the offense had produced three points.

Nobody felt it more than Pierre Garcon, who had just one ball thrown his way in the first half (resulting in a 2-yard loss). In fact, Garcon has only had 24 passes thrown his way the past five games combined. This after being targeted a combined 31 times in the first three games.

“In the first half, everybody was a little frustrated,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. “I know the receivers were a little frustrated. I know Pierre was frustrated because there were so many things we felt we were leaving on the table. I ... put out some fires.”

It’s not as if there was a huge difference in the second half as the three primary wideouts combined for nine second-half catches. Garcon, though, was targeted the most with four passes thrown his way.

But another difference was the offensive success enjoyed by the Redskins after halftime. They scored three points in the first half; 17 in the second half and overtime.

Also from Keim

In the last two weeks, McCoy has completed 36-of-42 passes for 427 yards.
The Redskins played with a confidence that multiplied as the game went on. Players talk about how much difference confidence makes and it showed Monday. Make a few plays early and it starts to build.
DeSean Jackson is DeSean Jackson. He’s a big-play game-changer who does not do the so-called little things. It’s all important, of course, and it would help no doubt. But Jackson leads the NFL with 329 yards on passes that travel at least 20 yards down field (he has caught six such balls). So when he gets down field ... he gets down field. Man, I’m really profound today

In the last four games, Jackson is averaging 26.88 yards per catch on 17 receptions.
Breeland is smart and clearly learns lessons. Actually, so does Amerson – both are two young players I enjoy talking to for this reason. Not everyone can tell you in detail what they learned; both of them can. Breeland will have rough moments at some point in other games. But the guy does not back down. To beat a Dez Bryant, you need a competitor. It's why DeAngelo Hall worked well vs. him. Hall knew he had to win at the line vs. Bryant; Breeland did as well.

I tell you what, Skins and Cowboys fans are lucky that our teams have such great fan bases. I mean, Dallas fans are like a PLEASURE to chat with compared to the jerks you see rooting for the Seahawks and Eagles for example. I just want to thank the Dallas fans on here for being so classy.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Redskins blitzed on a season-high 60 percent of the dropbacks (they entered sending an extra defender on 39.6 percent of dropbacks).

The Redskins have had success rushing Dallas in the past with stunts and blitzes, but the Cowboys’ line was different this year. However, the Redskins also pointed this out: They were starting a rookie and two second-year players. So defensive coordinator Jim Haslett wanted to be aggressive with looks and calls.

“We definitely saw on film they have problems with movement,” Redskins linebacker Perry Riley said. “It’s a good line. They’re powerful, but they’re young. We knew we would throw a lot of stunts and movements and blitzes and see how well they pick it up.

“We weren’t going to blitz a lot. We wanted to see how it was going to work and once it started working, Haz had the green light on.

Cowboy fans are really good to talk football with.

Not just you, I noticed that his comments were consistently on the critical nature of McCoy fo rthe most part. Not overly bashing, but but clearly laying blame for what went wrong on him. Especially for a guy who only had 5 incomplete passes.

I tweeted this before the game, but I was talking to some Cowboys staffers before the game. Yes, there was a strong confidence about what would happen. But their one big concern: What would Jim Haslett draw up for them? He’d done it to him in the past.

Love me some John Keim...best in the business and we are lucky to have him cover our 'Skins.

I didn't notice. Did you notice any other areas where there was a decreased use of "Redskins"? I'd find it odd if they continued to say "Redskins" and show the word in certain graphics but intentionally removed a tiny use of it on the helmets.

Hey, not all Eagles fans are jerks. If I had to rank the NFC East fans on FBG it would go like this:

1) Redskin Fans - Generally very knowledgeable, reasonable fans

2) Giant Fans - Very few on this board, but those that post seem like good enough fans

3) Cowboys Fans - Some very good fans, some very myopic fans that are very hard to have an intelligent discussion with. A mixed bag, but probably more good fans than bad.

4) Eagles Fans - Most abrasive fans in the division, but generally very knowledgeable. I don't have a problem with the abrasiveness but I grew up in Philly. I can see where it would rub most people the wrong way.

I am just talking about the fans on this site. I have met more jerk Cowboy fans in person than I have on this site.
