even with fantastic coverage on CBC, TSN and Sportsnet - people arent giving a flying #### about it up here.

ratings must be turrible - would love to hear the numbers post-olympics.
I don't know a single person watching it. I wonder why this one is so different. What did Russia do to damage the events themselves? What make NBC's coverage worse this time? How are the games worse?
I think time difference kills it. Almost impossible not to get spoilers. Then, NBC is seemingly obsessed with figure skating. They do a terrible job promoting what events are on when and when they televise it, they pick a different channel half the time.

I've been enjoying it. Flip the TV to NBC every night at around 7:30 and leave it on until 10:30, rotating between having it on in the background while doing other stuff and actually sitting and really watching for the big events.

ETA: I agree the spoilers are annoying, though ESPN has been 99% of that for me. Any time I try and watch a college basketball game they have the olympic results scrolling along the bottom line. Annoying.

You guys see that 4 man bobsled bit on espn this morning, those >50s era bobsleds were basically nothing more than some 2x4 tacked together with some skates underneath. Those guys had some serious balls.

So looks like we won some more medals in made-up sports.

As far as ROI on the real sports that don't have judges I have to think the US has the lowest ROI of any country. Getting trucked in speed skating, all the cross country stuff, and alpine and sliding it's basically a random medal or two here and there.

But we can sure win some SLOPESTYLE #####ES

The conditions during the women's slalom were a joke. It was pouring down rain. The stupid US announcer kept saying the women were being too conservative and that the course was in great shape. WTF!? It was clear that the women were having trouble holding lines and getting their skis to bite. Just a joke.

And you know what? F NBC. They just showed a US skier go down on the half pipe who obviously just did major damage to his knee. And instead of just showing him going down, they zoom in and make sure they pick up the audio of him screaming in pain. If it had been live footage that's one thing. But to make a conscious decision to not edit that out is despicable. NBC really has stooped lower than I thought possible in their coverage these games.

Yeah, I almost posted the same thing. It was pretty gruesome. Guy tore his ACL.

Maybe if they edit stuff out then some folks will think what else is edited.

Yes, I'm sure they haven't done any editing at all. :loco:

Ligety just killed it on the giant ski slalom.

How come the Americans suck at snowboard slalom though? I thought snowboarding was like the USA's thing.

Has anyone seen a medal ceremony yet?
No. Not one. No anthems. No flags flying. No athletes standing on podiums. Another terrible thing about nbc coverage.
wtf
I thought maybe it was just me.
Just realized this..you're right. We didn't even get the ceremony for the Men's Slopestyle where the US Men swept. Nothing.

I think the only time I saw the anthem being played at a sporting event was that viral video of Usain Bolt shushing a reporter for the anthem, and that wasn't even at the Olympics!!

Do people really want to watch the medal ceremonies? I'd say this is the one aspect of the coverage that NBC has gotten right.

Probably a minority view point but the cross country and biathlon have been awesome. I think they did a great job with the venues. The races have been pretty exciting.

Regarding the bobsled, seems like it's all about the equipment this year. Guys have been almost locked into their placements after the first run regardless of how much they touch the walls.

Biathlon

Does the liberal agenda have to infect the Olympics too? I suppose it's politically incorrect to ask why there is no heteroathlon?

Unbelievable.

Whatever this is on right now is awesome.
Yeah this is the deal I made up from earlier.
At this time last night I was watching snowboarding. Very entertaining, like roller derby on snow with 6 guys starting the course and 2-3 wiping out by the finish line.

Agree about the biathalon. I had never seen it before and it's a pretty awesome event.

Boarder-cross (not to be confused with the daily event down in Mexico, Border-cross) - Best event in the games IMO. It's not over till it's over. The US had a favorite in both Men's and Women's go down while leading or near the lead before the finals. Lindsey Jacobellis was the girl who was the poster child for "celebration fail" when she tried to do a trick on the final jump at Torino after leading by a mile and crashed, losing the gold, and has had 2 disappointing crash-outs since. Such an awesome sport to watch.

I usually just turn on the coverage and do other things, but I was glued to this event. Pretty cool.

If you really want to see a medal ceremony, they do show some, not all, when the US wins gold. I've seen 3 so far. It's at the tail end of the prime time when Costas is signing off.

:lmao:

Funny reading this on a football board, where everyone watches replays from 18 different angles when a guy blows out his knee in a football game.
