***OFFICIAL WIS XIV DRAFT THREAD*** (1 Viewer)

Guys, I'm dealing with a family semi-emergency today. While I had a minute, I just wanted to see if someone could jump in and guide this ship in the short-term. If we're ready to start, I don't want to hold us back. You guys know the drill, I'm just a figure head.

Candle litDoctor Detroit on the clock, except that there's no clock
I'll pick this evening since I can't get to WIS from here, and have no cheatsheets yet. Pretty sure I know who I want, just need to look at all the possibilities though.

1.01 SP Russ Ford

Nationality: Canadian by birth

Zodiac: Taurus

Major League debut: On my birthday, which must mean something

Ford is best-known as: The creator of the "emery" or "scuff" ball

Tie to Eephus: While playing for the Buffalo in the Federal League, Ford caught Chlamydia from Art Devlin's niece, who later became Eephus' third cousin by marriage.

"(Russ) Ford, a most intelligent fellow, had an odd delivery that was almost unhittable. He had an overhand swing that was noticeably good and his form was not up to that of the really great pitchers. Still, he would send a ball up at the batter that would suddenly dart away…" - Ty Cobb in Memoirs of Twenty Years in Baseball (Ty Cobb, 1955)

Take notes people. This is how you post a pick.

1.02 Greco II takes OF 鈴木 一朗, "Oriental guy"

More than 150 Japanese reporters and photographers were given media access. Safeco Field's sushi stands sold "Ichirolls" throughout the ballpark.

Aided by Major League Baseball's decision to allow All-Star voting in Japan, Ichiro was the first rookie to lead all players in voting for the All-Star Game. That winter, he won the American League Most Valuable Player and the Rookie of the Year awards, becoming only the second player in MLB history to receive both honors in the same season.

Good work, fellas. Things have calmed a bit. 2 hr clock starting tomorrow.... Sound good?

No first round skips
Oh yeah? I just got a PM to pick, but I wasn't even halfway prepared to pick until tomorrow. How do think it will go over if I punt until Tuesday morning?...

I'll research something on WIS and try to post a pick by COB.

That's our Doug "let me sit on a pick all weekend" B!

FWIW, I missed you guys. :sniffle:

1.04 - Boug D: Albert Pujols, 3B

...

Had completely forgotten that this guy came up as a 3rd baseman.

Edward Marvin Reulbach (Big Ed) 1905

Schools: University of Notre Dame, University of Vermont

Ed Reulbach was a key member of the pitching staff during the greatest years of the Chicago Cubs. He led the league in winning percentage in 1906-08, and was in the World Series four times. In spite of his excellent performances, it was hard to stand out on a team that had a full rotation of top pitchers, with the most prominent being Mordecai Brown.
