***OFFICIAL WIS XIV DRAFT THREAD*** (3 Viewers)

I definitely would be happy with a co-owner(I'll cover the wis $) or if someone drafts for me

I probably wont be around until later tonight. Maybe 9ish EST

FWIW, I had Trosky in the upper tier of hitters - only his position hurts as he is a 1B. Even so, he should rake IN THIS FORMAT
Seeing old WIS shtick in play again brings a tear to mah eye. :(
We should have an all time WIS Owners Draft. Not an easy choice at #1, as two past owners really brought a lot to the table in their brief time with us. While popular convention may go with the other, I have to go with:

1.1 Harrier. Haaarrrrr Sheets. The "original simfisher" - even when we were not yet simming. He was better than everyone, except that he wasnt. The reverence everyone gave to his "genius" and his rankings reminds me a bit of Mangenius' overstated abilities. Early success and nothing since. Oh, and there was the jail issue.
Perrrrrrennial #1 in the harrrrrankings

1.02 Larry_boy_44

In a tier of his own but available in a trade for future draft picks.
There's a big plateau after this part of the draft.
:goodposting: ETA... the Larry Plateau feels like it was yesterday. ####, must be 5+ years ago. I was sitting at a bar, before I was hired full time by the real estate development firm I work for now (they were a client). I was on my ANCIENT mobile pc phone - the one that was renowned for double posts. Pulled off the trade because of Mr. Boy's Plateau theory, then myself got lambasted for taking Tony Oliva (may have been the same season as was taken just now) and he performed great for me that year.

Wow, this brings back a flood of memories. Seems like yesterday and yet decades ago.

Sparty appears to be in the thread.

I used to have contact info, but I don't seem to anymore...seems like he's always sleeping in. Works a weird shift or something.

Mitt Romney available? Given all you do for him, I'm sure he could draft for you. He doesn't have a whole lot else going on.

Was just commenting to Tre about how long we've been doing theseLOTS of life changes since we began

two picks that stand out in my mind for no particular reason:

1. Drafting Tippy Martinez from the back of a NYC cab shuttling between meetings for a venue our company hasn't handled in about 3 years

2. Drafting Dave Roberts (the pitcher) from a "borrowed" wifi connection in my new apartment in Jackson Heights in the fall of 2005

:stalker:

I can help out until HT is running at full strength if no one cares.
Bring in Chem X
Good idea. He should have plenty of time after ignoring his Fantasy Football Team in the league he is in with me and TU.
Word on the street is you're doing the same in Dynastitty. :blackpot:

1.17 Ewell Albert "Reb" Russell, SP

Great 1913 rookie season as a pitcher. Then he blew out his arm with the White Sox, and came back as a damn good hitting OF for the Pirates.

Then he was released. 50 years later, he claimed this was why:

I was playing right field one day and some guy in the crowd was cussing me and on my back all day. In those days some of the crowd at Pittsburgh would sit on the ground right out on the field and if a fly ball was hit deep out that way, they were supposed to get the hell out of the way and let the fielder try and make the catch.

Well, a fly ball gets hit out my way and I go back and back and I look at the crowd and everyone is moving out of the way except this guy who has been riding me. He just sits there on the ground so he can get in my way.

So, I go up for the ball and come down on this guy and I really let him have it. I sink my spikes right into his chest and rip the hide right off his belly.

After the game, this guy I spiked goes to the front office and cries on the shoulder of the owners and says he is never going to come back for another game because of what I did to him and the owners get all excited and fire me.

Imagine that, they fired me, I never could figure it out.

Gerald Dempsey Posey III, C

Key facts:

Has won a Championship in 100% of his Major League seasons

Winner of many college awards, including the #### Howser and Golden Spikes award

Famously had Florida St. locker semi-retired by the team in homage

Best "Buster" available

ETA - PM sent to HT

The best part of the schtick was still the trade offers. "Give me your first round pick, and I'll give you my 3rd rounder and tell you who to take in the 19th."

Gerald Dempsey Posey III, C
wow. someone is higher on catchers than i am. I had Fisk #1 overall, and was debating Posey for my quasi-turn, but thought i might be able to squeeze him down to the 3rd, because typically i am too early on catchers.
Catchers just appear to me to be generally more squeezed in this format than some of the other positions. Or at least there seem to be a fewer number of seasons that stand out before hitting a large jumble of interchangeable seasons. Granted, the ABs limit value but the productivity per at bat fall off looks steeper there to me. We'll see how it plays out.

I read that to mean if someone is willing to co-manage/draft for him, go ahead and get it done.

Funny thing is that Team LarryPlateau finished about .500, and probably would've been better except that he came in near the bottom of the harrrrrrankings and was put in a tough division.I had the opposite happen in that sim, made the playoffs at about .500. Harrr always loved my teams. The more time I spent using spreadsheets, the higher my team would get harrrrranked and the worse they'd do on the field.

Fisk was on the short list of players I was hoping would fall to me but didn't expect it to happen. I am not sure if I would have taken him #1 but I would have taken him much sooner if I had the chance. But who cares what I think.

Oliva was nails for him. You're in good shape.

Tre was so excited for this pick that he had to go get himself some nose candy

SP Dwight Gooden

Bow down to Lord Charles:

He quickly developed a reputation with his 98 MPH fastball and sweeping curveball, which was given the superlative nickname of "Lord Charles,"
Gooden was arrested on December 13, 1986, in Tampa, Florida after fighting with police.[2] A report clearing police of misconduct in the arrest helped start the Tampa Riots of 1987.[3] Rumors of substance abuse began to arise, which were confirmed when Gooden tested positive for cocaine during spring training in 1987. He entered a rehabilitation center on April 1, 1987, to avoid being suspended and did not make his first start of the season until June 5. Despite missing a third of the season, Gooden won 15 games for the 1987 Mets.
On February 20, 2002, Gooden was arrested in his native Tampa and charged with driving while intoxicated, having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, and driving with a suspended license. He was arrested again in January 2003 for driving with a suspended license.

On March 12, 2005, Gooden was arrested in Tampa, Florida for punching his girlfriend after she threw a telephone at his head. He was released two days later on a misdemeanor battery charge.

Troubles continued to mount for the former star when, on August 23, 2005, he drove away from a traffic stop in Tampa, after being pulled over for driving erratically. He gave the officer his driver's license, twice refused to leave his car, then drove away. The officer remarked in his report that Gooden's eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred, and a "strong" odor of alcohol was present on him. Three days after the traffic stop, Gooden turned himself in to police.[8]

Gooden was again arrested in March 2006 for violating his probation, after he appeared intoxicated with cocaine at a scheduled meeting with his probation officer, David R. Stec.[9] He chose prison over extended probation, perhaps in the hope that incarceration would separate him from the temptations of his addiction.[10] He entered prison on April 17, 2006. On May 31, Gooden said in an interview from prison, "I can't come back here. [...] I'd rather get shot than come back here. [...] If I don't get the message this time, I never will."[11] Gooden was released from prison November 9, 2006, after nearly seven months' incarceration, and was not placed on further probation.[12]

On the morning of March 24, 2010, Gooden was arrested in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey after leaving the scene of a traffic accident. He was located nearby and found to be under the influence of an undisclosed controlled substance. He has been charged with 8 counts, including DWI with a child passenger, leaving the scene of an accident, and other motor vehicle violations.[13] Gooden has also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, because a child was with him at the time of the accident.[14]

**ALERT**

When making your 2nd round selection, please post your stadium selection as well. The stadium draft moves in reverse draft order, and since we're about to make the turn, we'll just kill two birds with one stone.

He stills owes me $20 from having a better record in I think his last apperance in one of these.

That's a lot of license plates.

1.21 Bernie Carbo, OF

Welcome to the team...

On April 1, 2010, in an interview with the Boston Globe, Carbo admitted to doing drugs during the 1975 World Series. He states, "I probably smoked two joints, drank about three or four beers, got to the ballpark, took some [amphetamines], took a pain pill, drank a cup of coffee, chewed some tobacco, had a cigarette, and got up to the plate and hit." It was not just a one-time binge, however. In the same article, Carbo states, "I played every game high. I was addicted to anything you could possibly be addicted to. I played the outfield sometimes where it looked like the stars were falling from the sky."
After retiring, he spent time as a hairdresser
