***OFFICIAL WIS XIV DRAFT THREAD*** (1 Viewer)

Greco I selects:

3.08 Fred Glade, SP 1904

On August 3, 1906 at Sportsman's Park, Glade faced Long Tom Hughes and the Washington Senators, entering the 10th inning with a scoreless tie, until Hughes decided the game with a solo home run to a 1–0 victory, becoming the first pitcher in major league history to pitch a shutout and hit a home run which accounted for the only run in the game.

The round 3 pick of Righetti is the first of many low PA and IP guys. This is expected of a first year league where a high percentage of eligible players were promoted mid-year or didn't see regular playing time.

I think this will favor the sim live regulars who can manage appearances more tightly. Managerial settings and fatigue will probably be bigger factors in this league than in most of the other ones we've done. Players drafted in rounds 19-25 will play a bigger role than usual.

Some of the things that attracted me to this concept. A little different than even a short era league.

Thanks for the PM Eephus.3.12 Doc Ayers

Ayers was a noted spitball pitcher who was allowed to throw the pitch after it had been banned in the major leagues after the 1919 season, having received special permission to do so.
Seriously?

Among the 17 spitball pitchers exempted when the pitch was banned, Doc Ayers was unique. He was the only one who hurled with an underhand motion. Several newspaper accounts from his playing days refer to him as pitching underhand, which was exceedingly rare among spitball pitchers. An article in the Washington Post stated that "Ayers is one of the most peculiar pitchers in the business.

SP/RP Babe Adams

Tre's type of guy...good with the ladies

By that point Adams had been tagged with the nickname "Babe," though its precise origin remains uncertain. According to one story, his Denver teammates pinned it on him in 1907 after a woman asking for his autograph told him he had a nice round face like a baby's. But James Skipper, Jr., in his book Baseball Nicknames, states that Adams earned the sobriquet during his 1908 Louisville stint because female fans hollered "Oh, you babe!" whenever he took the mound. Either way, the dark-featured Adams apparently was popular with the ladies, and many hearts must have broken when he married Blanche Wright, his high school sweetheart from Mount Moriah, shortly before training camp in March 1909.

As much as I lamented just missing out on H. Krause, Ill take the Dale Alexander pick coupled with 150 very good starter innings here:

Ernie Shore, SP

With Vean Gregg's 260+ innings, I can take the semi limited IPs even this early in the draft. Wake Forrest's baseball stadium is named after him.

I pmed Sparty who is in the thread. Allegedly.

Also topped off my mid day trading spree in my biggest fantasy league by getting rid of Ryan the Broken Train Torain in return for Mike Sims Walker. Threw in Steve :deadbananaincarolina: Smith, whom I needed to drop to pick up a defense anyway.

Positioning myself for a couple weeks from now to hopefully trade Freeman and either Moss or MSW (seems to have decided to finally play this year) for a stud WR. Gotta love 2QB leagues.

I had bored of it in recent years, but found myself more into it again this year. It's a good diversion and can make me some $$'s. Ironically, not having the NFL channel and the package may have helped. I had FF overload for a few years.
