So we would stop in North Dakota or something. Wade would drink about a half rack between New Jersey and North Dakota, and it would take about a half-hour to an hour to refuel once we got there, so he’d have a few more beers while we were grounded in North Dakota.

"Once we got back up in the air, Wade would drink another 10, 11, 12 beers on the way out to the west coast. The whole flight from coast to coast ususally took us well over 7 hours. We’d touch down at Sea-Tac, hop on the bus headed to the Kingdome, and Wade would have another beer or two on the bus. Then, all of us would get to the Kingdome and unpack our bags and sit around and BS with eachother, and Wade would have a beer in his hand the entire time. He was always one of the last people to leave the club house too. So I’d say that all in all, he drank over 50 beers on the trip, and this wasn’t just an isolated incident, he did that almost every time."

No it's 1893, the year the pitching rubber was moved back to 60'6".Doesn't matter much anyway because there aren't many decent 1893 seasons. It was a bad year all around. My cousin Mort died from lockjaw.

RnR screwed up. He's not an original WIS guy, so he makes mistakes.
This is true. I didn't join until WIS II. I'm ashamed, but I did changed it to 1893 prior to the start of the draft. Sorry for any confusion.

Situations never mattered to him. If the Sox were down by one in the ninth, with a runner on third and two outs, Boggs invariably drew a walk, leaving the game in someone else's hands. That's just who he was. There's a reason he cracked the top five in MVP voting only once. Local writers and talk show hosts skewered him for being a selfish singles hitter, wondering why he wouldn't hit for power. All this "getting on base" stuff was hurting the team. One fact sums it up: two seasons after Boggs signed with the Yanks in 1992, the Red Sox gave his No. 26 to Wes Chamberlain

Flying without Sammysuggestion here, so he'll probably cuss me out, but whatevs:

4.06 - Jim Ray Hart, 3B

Bob Gibson welcomed Jim Ray to the big leagues in 1963 by breaking his shoulder blade with a fastball in the back. A few days after Hart's return, he was beaned by Curt Simmons and missed the rest of the season.

But in 1964, his first full year, the stocky strongman proved he wasn't gun-shy with a San Francisco rookie record 31 homers. Until a 1969 shoulder injury made him a part timer, he averaged 28 homers a season. On September 8, 1970 he hit for the cycle and tied a major-league record with six RBI in one inning.

Although the former North Carolina cotton picker was so quiet it was said a soft chuckle was a whole conversation for him, he was vocal about his hatred of playing third base: it was "just too damn close to the hitters."

Feb 16 2009 --- I came across information that Jim Ray Hart who played for Springfield and of later 'fame' with the parent club is living on the streets of Newark, NJ. Very difficult to get info on this. Sad story if it's true. 30 percent believeable to me. Must not have much of a pension.

That's an awful columnAny article that begins with a premise equating Boggs to Adam Sandler is absurd

Guy was a 12X All Star, had a career slash line of .328/.415/.443 and a career OPS+ of 130 (dragged down by the last 4 years, where he held on too long so he could get 3K hits)

He led the league in hitting 5X and OBP 6X and had the highest WAR in the entire league for three straight years

He also worked his ### off to become a decent fielding 3B, eventually winning 2 gold gloves (as dubious as the award may be)

I like Simmons, but he writes some moronic columns sometimes

My 2 time Baseball Mogul Cy Young winning pitcher Reggie Wynn has a no-hitter going through 8 for the Kansas City Royals in 2037. This is pretty tense right now.

Top of the 9th

Out #1 - infield pop-up from the #9 hitter

Out #2 - fly out to deep left

#2 hitter hits a ground ball hard up the middle, right on the edge of going through, but the second baseman snags it for the out!

.620+ Slg doesnt grow on trees. Neither does .370+ avg. Even in 1930 and considering normalization should make a very nice 3 and 4 hitter combo with Dale Alexander. Will get over 500PAs in the sim which should be plenty seeing as he is a likely defensive sub late in games.

And about the defense: you can't err on a ball you don't get to.

There were three players I was targeting here (Watkins being my choice but sometimes that changes): Rico Carty, Keller (good ol' sparty) and Watkins.
