OFFICIAL WIS XVII THREAD: Long Balls, Boy Bands, and Booming Economies (2 Viewers)

Not to mention having to outpace WIS Demigod jfranco at the same time for the NL Wild Card slot.
Oso's going to pitch Maddux 3 out of 4 games I hear.
I'd counter with Brown in 3 of 4 games, but he's been kinda crap lately. :(

Still one day left to trade! Eldred (1/2 starter), plus who for Brown. You get two key starters for one.

No.

Pretty sure Spartans and I have gone win for win and loss for loss with each other for the past 10 games.

Big 4 game series to determine the division winner (though we're likely finishing 3rd and 4th anyway).

Big Mac at 78 HR, 186 RBI with 8 games less, but also 98 fatigue, so he may sit down a game or two, what exactly happens as far as health for the playoffs?

The LAST thing I need now are extra inning games. Can't I put in a setting that if it's about to go into extra innings, I'll just walk in the winning run to save PAs and IPs?

Maddux defeats Brown. 1/2 game back now, dead even in the loss column.

p.s. of course, it may be all for naught if jfranco doesn't lose

In the meantime, I've just about worn out the tread on Roberto Kelly. So I'm starting him at CF (B- range) and batting him 4th in the final game with Oso.

Guys with .350 AVG and .600 SLG in almost 300 PAs need to be in your lineup. NEVER SIT YOUR STUDS.

Mark. F'n. Gardner, aka Mr. 25th Rounder.
going with my 25th rounder - Steve Karsay - this afternoon.

i'm not sure how/if fatigue impacts a player mid-game, when he starts the game at 100%, but is right on the edge of his innings limit. we'll see.
You get about 10% above the innings limit, so you should be fine.
already taking that into account. Karsay had only 40 IP/162 IRL, and already has 44.1 IP for me.

Good job, boys. Happy with 2 of 4 from Oso. Still 1 up on the WIS Demigod.

I'll probably pull an Oso and start Brown twice in the upcoming series against SoCalDraftKiller.

Frosty making a late run, 3 games out of AL WC with 4 to go

Doug needs to win 3 of 4 to get to 100 wins

My team that was specifically built for Coors Field (very high contact rates to take advantage of the +3 for 1B, 2B, 3B, very good fielding outfielders to counteract that, lots of power for the +4 HR's) is doing better on the road (49-32) than at home (40-37)).

Some tidbits:

No one with more than 11 saves

Other than Nomo (21 wins) no one with more than 10.

No one with over .900 OPS (.890 is the highest)

Hojo with an outside chance at the 30-30-30 club. 38 homers. 28 steals. 30 Errors.

I had pretty much given up. Now on a 13-2 run to at least make things interesting.
And I've lost 8 of my last 11 to give you a chance.
Do more.
I have full confidence in my players' ability to blow this.

ETA: Make it 9 for 12.
In our one NBA incarnation I think I lost my last 10 or 12, in a row, to miss the playoffs by one game.

after picking the Astrodome as my ballpark, i recalibrated all of my rankings to tailor to the park factors (-4 HR). Eschewing HRs, or at least recalculating a hitters OPS as if half of his HRs went away. And taking chances on high HR pitchers who had great peripherals otherwise. That proved to be a mistake.

While it worked wonderfully well in the Astrodome, it was a disaster elsewhere. We finished 50-31 at home, one of the very best marks in the league. But are sitting at 31-48 on the road, one of the very WORST marks in the league.

best of luck to the playoff teams!

We had one hell of a competitive division. Maddux was just unreal - was not looking forward to seeing him command a playoff series. Then again, the remaining options are pretty damned formidable as well.

HoJo gets a couple late SBs and HRs - 40-30 club with 30 errors. Considering I had solid to very good defense at all other positions and was focusing on pitching that bat has been very productive.

Agreed that our division was pretty tough. Also find it interesting that the offense was all in the AL it seemed. Not sure how that will translate in the W.S.

Effing RIjo.

Now back to all tied with 1 game left. Please don't screw this up, Kevin Brown.
Should there be a play in game how does that effect fatigue? Both for the participants and the rest of us? Anyone know?

Pretty sure it is a playoff game so everyone is at 100% IIRC. I played in one of these a few iterations back.

Whew. Brown today and Brown tomorrow (if a play-in is needed).

:pickle: :pickle: :pickle:

The boys put up 2 early and rode it out as Kevin Brown guts out 7 innings and Veres and Hernandez combine to slam the door on a close 2-1 win.

Meanwhile, with Franco up 7-0 at one point, he was in the catbird's seat for at least a play-in game, but Pete Harnish and his worn-out bullpen blew it in by allowing 4 runs in the 6th and 5 in the 8th.

This would have been fun to watch if this happened in real life at the same time!

McGwire cooled off towards the end of the season but did finish with the all-time HR and RBI records:

Final line: 78 HR, 192 RBI, .316/.472/.753 for a nice tidy 1.225 OPS.

Made the playoffs, woohoo. Im going to lose in the 1st round tho. I have no stud pitchers.

Bogart had 8 of the 9 gold gloves in the AL.
