You may like it, you may not (and if "not" seriously what are we doing here).
Different people like different things. Just because it might not be for someone doesn't mean it's a problem. Many people can't stand baseball. I don't understand how that can be but to each their own. but it's not "what are we doing here".

And before you go off on the you don't even watch it........I have watched a few games and it's still just meh to me. There are many other things I would prefer to watch.....including softball. That is awesome to watch so it's not a female sport thing for me either.

I think Clark is being way overhyped. She is good. But the amount of hype she has gotten the past two years is way over the top.

Seems worthy of hype. She may end up being average in WNBA but certainly worthy of the hype coming in.

I agree that she deserves some hype but not to the level she has been at for the last two years. I don't think anybody deserves the type of hype she got. Watching ESPN you would have thought she was the only athlete out there for almost two years. She must have a great publicist.

2/3 of this board wants to go back to 80s NBA basketball and watch that crap but for this league we don’t? I can’t keep up with the narratives anymore.
Start a poll. I doubt this, but you may be right.
I’m not starting a poll but over the years the nba thread has been filled with people declaring ball was better back then, none of today’s players could make it in that era etc. This place is filled with people reminiscing over goobers like Bill Laimbeer clotheslining more talented players.

She got some good endorsement deals too. Probably a good agent also.

Lot's of good potential for a "Bad Girls" narrative on the Sky ala those Pistons teams he was on. Got Carter and Reese. Just need Cardoso to start shoving some folks

There's been some talk in here about how aggressive play and cheap fouls are horrible basketball and off-putting to watch, but the Bad Boy Pistons were one of my favorite teams. They make documentaries about them. They are legends in Detroit. I like a little roughneck with my sports, but I'm a high-T alpha dog of a man, so I can't relate to the snowflakery and wispy share your feelings guy who don't want poor Clark to get pushed.
I have zero problem with a hard foul going to the hoop....or running over her going through a screen or something....going out of your way and delivering a blindside cheap shot 90 feet from the basket out in the middle of nowhere is a totally different story....especially when it is celebrated like she did something great...and especially when you run away like little cowards afterwards....little b!tch move from start to finish....

Man, this isolated event in sports that we've never seen anywhere else in the history of athletics really has you triggered. I think it's great you're in here talking about this how this traumatic event has impacted you as that's the first step in getting the help you need to heal and move on.
May I ask politely why you are defending an obvious cheap shot and the celebration that occurred after it?

Seems odd imo

I certainly did not defend it. I'm just not apoplectic about it. It happened, the league is dealing with it, I hope this isn't a reoccurring thing that Clark has to deal with.

The world and hisotry of sports is FULL of incidents of poor sportsmanship and cheap shots. I don't like it, but I don't clutch my pearls, wag my finger and ANNOUNCE that I'm never watching a sport again because of it.

And if I cite an example I get admonished for using a "strawman". It's so dumb. We didn't stop watching the NBA when Kermitt Washington almost killed Rudy Tomjonavich or when Draymond Green started kicking guys in the balls. Did you quit watching the NFL when Gronk cheap shotted Tavarious White? Hell, I posted a story of Diana Turassi punching Kesley Plum in the stomach her rookie year. There are countless examples of cheap shots in sports that are still thriving. Not saying it's right nor am I defending it but my god, the people screaming about Clark getting hip checked are ridiculous. Clark isn't in the hospital. But the level of outrage over this is silly, especially since 99% of the people frothing at the mouth don't watch WNBA.
No one is pearl clutching nearly as much as you want them to be. I think most here are saying people didn't watch the sport in the first place and now that they have some momentum and a marketable player, we'd rather watch basketball and not WWE. But you do you and keep up the over-dramatic narrative I guess.

Lol @ WWE. 2 seconds of a flagrant foul happening and it's WWE. Glad to see you're still the same after the political forum closed.
I've said all along it's damn near unwatchable because of the constant holding and grabbing and that kind of nonsense is way more of a problem than Reese and Kennedy being punks.

Ok, then they lost a viewer here. I get it. The WNBA is not for you. You much prefer the aesthetics and art that is Georgia Tech offensive football. No grabbing or holding there to harm you.

Also no winning.
Are you ever not a tool?
He's the Stephen A Smith of the FFA now.

Baseball was my #1 sport to follow - up until 1994. And then it was gone and I never came back. There might be a lesson here.

Laimbeer was a treasure
Laimbeer was both a goober AND a treasure. I have never hidden that I was a fan of the Bad Boy Pistons, but I was a kid when I became a fan. I doubt I would have been a fan had I been an adult already when they hit the scene. The one thing you have to give Laimbeer is that he almost always owned what he was; he never tried to hide the fact that he was a bit of a goon. Contrast to a goober like Draymond Green who always plays the "What did I do?" act. To use a wrestling analogy, if you are going to go full heel, own it. That is what Reese and Carter ought to be doing now in the WNBA. Be heels and own it.

She’s the NCAA ALL TIME LEADING SCORER.

A white, black, yellow, green, girl, boy, hermaphrodite, cat or dog would get the same hype.

Her game is more appealing than most other players because it’s more skill than iso or big girl post game stuff. She is a very poor man’s Steph Curry.

Saying that “you would have thought she was the only athlete out there for almost two years.” is simply not true.

Angel Reese also got TONS OF COVERAGE, rightfully so.

If I were a tool, I'd report this but I don't care. It's you. I'm glad you don't like me. I'd think something was wrong with me if you did.

Every time I watched anything on ESPN there were commercial after commercial hyping the next Iowa game to see Clark. The hype for Clark was unlike anything I had ever seen. I am not saying Reese wasn't also hyped. I am also not saying it has anything to do with race.

But every time I turned on ESPN over the last two years during the basketball season it was all Clark all the time. It worked too. I tuned in to a few of her games to see what the hype was about. She was good. She can shoot. She can pass. But she didn't deserve the unparallel hype I was being force fed by the network. She also didn't move the needle enough for me to want to watch more women's college basketball. It was fine and probably better than I remember but not so much that it would make me go out of my way to make sure I saw a game.

This was my experience. It may not have seemed like that to you and you make think it was justified. I think it was way over the top and force fed to us.

That because any halfway decent modern male player is in the NBA after 2 years.

You think thats a good argument on why Caitlan Clark shouldnt have received so much publicity?

Personally I think hearing this from one person sort of overrides the 9 people who don't agree.

In these threads there is only one persons opinion that matters or can be correct.

Everyone who disagrees is simply wrong, dumb, a bro or troglodyte.

Just saying if most male players stayed she wouldn’t be anywhere near the top, and I don’t think all time women’s leader carries the same cache.

Anyway maybe one day she’ll actually lead her team to a championship

Also, I bet this yearning for the old days has to do with load management.

i lived it and have been a buckethead forever and in my opinion the piston 80s clownshow was crap thats not basketball thats just cheap shot garbage todays game is so athletic and skillful its just nuts to me that anyone would put the 80s ahead of todays game in fact id argue that the game was better in the 60s and 70s than it was in the 80s during the piston crapfest take that to the bank bromigos

You made a statement, I disagreed. You may be right and I'm curious to an extent. Yeah, Boomers liked Magic, Bird, and Jordan....far cry from Laimbeer clotheslining people.

Meh, different strokes. I don’t love the 3 ball over the traditional bigs but I’ve come around to today’s game. I certainly don’t want to go back to the Knicks/Heat era but I could do without all the whining and complaining.

I would ignore of it if I could it would stop the flopping or the worst of all, pretending to be grievously injured.

When I think of 80's basketball I think of Showtime Lakers vs Celtics. That is a big difference than the thug Pistons that started at the tail end of the 80's and really took stride at the beginning of the 90's. It may be splitting hairs a bit brochacho but I loved the 80's showtime Lakers style of play and that is what I think of when I hear 80's basketball....take that to the Fabulous Forum Brohan.

Gimme those 2004 pistons, highest score in the finals was 100 :lmao:

Or that 69-65 game 6 conf finals vs the pacers
Don’t get me wrong. I grew up watching Georgetown and the big east, I love me some slobber knockers, but I have come around to today’s game. These dudes are acrobatic athletes. Not sure that makes them better basketball players, but they’re definitely athletes.

Speaking of straw man arguments - when I was a kid, my parents took me to the Pebble Beach Pro-Am under the auspices that the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz would be there.

They never told me, he was an actor, and would not be in costume. I was expecting a straw man... :censored:

Was he enjoying a mixed drink? You could have gotten the straw that stirred the drink of the straw man as a souvenir.

Chennedy Carter: I happened to read about her background, which is ..interesting. She gave up her senior year at Texas A&M, and was drafted 4th by the Atlanta Dream in 2020. She had a strong rookie season, but midway through 2021, she had “conduct detrimental to the team” for threatening to fight a teammate who asked her to improve her attitude. Carter was traded to the LA Sparks, who released her during the 2022 season for “poor conduct.” She played last year in Turkey.
Yeah, she's definitely got some troubles.

Probably won't happen because we rarely change, but I just can't help but root for the kid to get it together.

And she really is fun to watch. Reminds me of Iverson. As far as I've seen, I don't think there's a defender in the league that can stay in front of her.

Her coach even said she thinks she might be the most talented player in the league.

T Spoon gives me some hope. She's a tough nosed former player that all the other former players seem to love. If anybody can get through to Carter, it seems like maybe she could.

And so far, the Chicago teammates and fans seem to like her, but we'll see how that goes.

Seems worthy of hype. She may end up being average in WNBA but certainly worthy of the hype coming in.

WNBA draft requires age of 22 years.
