Cheese: very little good players, but Messi and some interesting steals in the lower rounds save a C- Very good: Lionel Messi - the best player in the world, although he didn't prove it in the first game he is always good for at least one goal and/or one assist. In one of the better teams therefore perfect choice. Good: Even in second position - Julio Cesar is one of the Top5 goalkeepers in the world, therefore I like his pick, even as second. I think the WC up to now prooves how important good goalkeepers are. Brazil as one of the better teams will not have a lot of goals scored against. Salomon Kalou- Salomon Kalou- for me a good choice in the sixth rd.. Excellent skills, good forward, IVC probably on of the better offenses of all African teams.Michael Bradley- good choice in Rd. 11 - Michael Bradley one of the key players in an underrated team which has a good chance to advance to Rd.2 . MB one of the key players always sure to play and even able to score. US in weak enough group to not lose a game. Jeremy Toulalan - good choice that late. He is one of the key players in the French team which is in very weak group and has a chance to advance to QF without too much opposition. Anthony Annan- good pick in Rd.14 one of the better players with playing guarantee in a mediocre Ghana-team. With scoring ability. Chance to advance to second round. Lars Jacobsen - Could be a steal in Rd. 17 - in a relatively stable defense he is a sure player. Erick Abidal - see him on one level with Gallas - so picked at Pos 17.3 is a steal. Mediocre: Glen Johnson: Surely one of the up and coming defensemen - but in third rd. picked too high. Michel Bastos - surely a good defenseman but picked too high in 4th rd.. There are better defensemen available with more scoring punch. advantage see Julio Cesar, good team, defensively reasonably well organized. William Gallas - again a player quite stable, a little bit high in the fifth rd.. Also in a team that didn't proove their qualities yet. Defense always good for one or two goals against. Rafael Marquez - rd. 7 too early for my taste. They are not in a difficult group, which go to Mex advantage but there were still too many good defenders with betters skills and especially from better teams in the draft. LLedson - Portugal - he is good for some goals if he gets into best form but again there are at least ten better forwards from better teams still available. Depending on the strategy he also might not play every game. Portugal has big problems scoring. Group of death. Raul Meirieles - Portugal see my commentary to Lledson - I have the feeling Cheese has a lot of trust in the Portuguese team. I don't and believe they will come in third. There form is not good enough and they don't take their chances. Even Ronaldo. Group of death. Abelkader Keita: Risky pick as he wouldn't belong to my Top3-forwards in IVC-team (Drogba, Kalou and Gervinho). Might get more chances with Drogba out in first game. Good player, dangerous but might be out after 3 games in Group of Death. Daniel jensen - mediocre player in a mediocre team. Mucha - Mucha - Rd.15 he will be among the Top 11 but is considered a average GK.Bad: David James - below average goalkeeper in team that has a jinx on this position - Calamity. Fear the turtle: Very good: Iker Casillas - best or second best goalkeeper available. GK key to success. Also in a team that won't get a lot of goals against. Aguero - at 13.4 excellent pick. He will be first choice to be brought in into arguably the best front line in the tournament. Has proven that he is very good joker with high efficiancy. Good: Fernando Torres. High risk. Only good because of all the intangibles. Still, if he plays always good for many goals. Xabi Alonso - Good choice stable performer with playing guarantee in best team. Peter Crouch - good chance to play every game even if he comes in from the bench. Always very dangerous infront of the goal. Lucio - good choice - despite his age he has proven his value for Inter as well as Brazil often enough. Captain, assured of his position and able to score from headers and fast attacks. Fabio Cannavaro - although old and past his prime his team will not allow a lot of goals and he will always be a part of it. Gabriel Heinze- player past his prime but assured of starting job on left back position, still Argentina defense more shaky than other big nations. Good (because I know that he scored in the first game) Mauro Comoranesi - good enough stable player in an overaged team. He had a terrible season but owns the trust of the coach. Will not score a lot but o.k. pick at 12.11. Nigel de Jong - good player with strong grip on his position in a team that might be able to go all the way. Holding midfielder but can score. Defense might be shaky against better teams. Mediocre: Jonas Gutierrez - Picked much too high. Although in a good team a very defensive midfielder with little punch, clearly the game will develop through Messi and the left side. Mario Gomez - steady underachiever in former competitions, will only come in from bench, but has trust from coach. could explode in a very good team. Still, Klose first choice for only centre forward, therefore at 10.11 picked too high. Sani Keita - mediocre player in mediocre team, there would have been better players available. at least assured of game time. Waldo Ponce - weakest defense from the Southern American teams in the qualification. Ponce has his place assured but the style of play high up the field from Chile will create lots of scoring opportunities for the opposition. Bad. Thiago Silva - Picked much too high for a player that won't be a starter in the Brazil team. Ibrahim Afellay - Player with almost no chance for starting 11 Dario Veron - mediocre player in mediocre team - o.k. pick at this position - assured of right back position.
