I'll make this pick when I get home from the match. Skip me now if you want.

I think I need to hedge on Reus… <_<

Andre Schurrle Midfield Germany
Interesting side note that I did not pick up on earlier, but I believe this is the 4th German chosen by Sebowski. Reus, Kroos, and Mertesacker

It is somewhat offset if Reus is out, but a rule violation nonetheless.

I'll be out til late Sunday.

Sir Ramsay's got the helm for (at least) the next two picks.

I have last overall, so he can pick to end this, or leave it to build suspense. :D

(BTW, Good call on overloading Germans

3.15 Derek Philipp Lahm DF Germany

7.15 Derek Miroslav Klose FW Germany

8.02 Derek Per Mertesacker MF Germany

11.15 Derek Sami Khedira MF Germany)

I took Lahm, Klose, and Khedira

Sebowski took Mertesacker at 8.03 after I took Fredy Guarin

That solves one situation.

It is awkward. But I think we have a few options. Go back to Sebowkskis pick, when he wakes up at noon, and restart the draft. Or, make Sebowski pick again, but not allowed to take anyone who was drafted after him, and then offer each player in line the option of dropping the player they drafted for Schurrle. Or, do nothing.

Or be really harsh, and skip Sebowski, and go back to each person in line and offer to trade out Schurrle....

I am not in favor of simply allowing next up to draft him, because I think someone would have drafted him yesterday had he been available. He was already on my short list before the injury to Reus, so I assume others were thinking about him also.

I say leave him out completely

He will be the only guy in the tournament every one of us will be rooting for to score

The sucky part about this format is every goal is on someone's team just about. Rooting against goals is boring.

This is where we currently stand, I believe. Please do not draft anyone until the Sebowski thing is resolved:

14.01 - 8ebok24 - Felipe Caicedo - FW - Ecuador

14.02 - Derek - Diego Lugano - DF - Uruguay

14.03 - Gator (from Sebowski) - Dejan Lovren - DF - Croatia

14.04 - PIK95 - SKIPPED

14.05 - Aaron - Andrea Barzagli - DF - Italy

14.06 - Boubucarow - Enner Valencia - FW - Ecuador

Reus is technically still on Sebowski's roster. If he wants to add another German with a compensatory pick at the end of the draft, I think that should be OK. But technically speaking, he has four Germans on his team.

I'd say make Schurrle unavailable for everyone until the knockout stage waivers, let Sebowski re-pick immediately, and give him a compensatory pick for Reus at the end of the draft, a la Ribery, and a la CR7 after the witch doctor kills him.

My assessment:

Article 1: Per the rules: "NOTE: rosters are capped at 3 players for any given team."

Article 2: Also per the rules: "If you draft a player who is does not make his team's final 23-man roster, either due to injury or simply being released, you will be eligible for an additional make-up pick at the end of the draft."

Article 3: Per a quick Google search, Marco Reus was not ruled out of the team until 5-6 hours ago, well after Sebowski picked Andre Schurrle, meaning that even if it mattered (which in my opinion it shouldn't), Reus was still an eligible German player when Sebowski picked Schurrle.

By reading, and my intent when writing the rules, the player does not automatically disappear from your roster when he is dropped from the team. He remains on your team until the end of the draft, at which time you are able to replace him. That is to say that Reus continues to remain on Sebowski's 16-player roster - and thus is factored into the 3 German players limit - until the end of the 16 rounds of the draft. Similarly, Franck Ribery continues to remain on Boubucarow's roster.

Given how far we've gone since it was noticed and the fact that the tournament begins shortly, here is what I am proposing:

- Schurrle is removed from Sebowski's team as an ineligible pick

- Schurrle is removed from the league entirely and is not available as either a draft pick or a waiver free agent

- Sebowski is penalized for the illegal pick (since he made a player ineligible who other participants would've certainly picked; I know I would've considered it strongly). I don't think it's entirely fair to make him make up his pick at the very end of the 16th round, but I think there should be a little bit of a penalty for the infraction. I am proposing that Sebowski be granted a compensatory make-up pick at the end of the current 14th round, before the start of the 15th round.

Thoughts??

Or I suppose I'm in favor of just giving Sebowski his make-up pick now, given that entire round and a half has already passed. I'm okay with that if others are.

It will be a shame if Schurrle goes onto win the Golden Boot and hes not on anyones roster. I would rather see him drop Reus since hes now been declared out and keep Schurrle. I know it deviates from the rules slightly but its a simple built in solution. He can make up his last pick at the end if the draft.

I also propose allowing the Ribery owner to make the same adjustment at his next pick.

My thoughts: Drop Schurrle from Sebowski. He can re-pick that spot when he wakes up. He can get a compensatory pick for dropping Reus at the end of the draft.

Unless you want to go back and re-do the draft from the time of Sebowski's pick, I think the fairest thing to do would be to keep Schurrle out of the game. I wouldn't lose any sleep over allowing him to be picked in the knock-out stage - I am sure there will be similar players available

I completely agree with this. Can't reward an ineligible pick. I suppose I could go along with your update of letting him pick now. Whatever you decide between these options is fine with me. Has he paid? ;)

When Sebowski drafted Schurrle, though, he violated the rules by having 4 German players. Reus was still on the German roster at the time, despite the injury problems. The pick effectively would allow him to illegally replace Reus. This is not fair to the other players in the draft who may have wanted to select Schurrle. If Schurrle were to have slipped undrafted, Sebowski could've replaced him at the end and been fine.

I think that deviates from the rules pretty significantly...

If we had followed the rules here, we would have called Sebowski on it when he made the pick, he would have chosen someone else, and Schurrle would have been one of the next few picks. I know he was already on my list, even before the Reus injury, I am sure others had him on their list as well.

The rules were pretty clear regarding injuries - those players could be dropped after the draft. Its actually pretty generous considering some of these players will get injured in the WC, and then you get no replacement.

Ok fair enough. I hear you guys. Just hate for a player to be left out. I would prefer if possible to find a way to keep him eligible. If that's not feasible then I'm all aboard with you and Taskers proposal.

Just an FYI - the spreadsheet I am keeping simply tracks the players drafted by National team - I am not tracking, other than my own players, who has how many players on each team. It was not until I was going back and looking at the 1st page that I noticed Sebowski already had 3 Germans on his roster.

OFFICIAL RULING:

- Schurrle is removed from Sebowski's team as an ineligible pick

- Schurrle is removed from the league entirely and is not available as either a draft pick or a waiver free agent

- Sebowski is allowed to make up his pick at any time (I am going to text him to notify him) but the draft continues as scheduled. The 1 1/2+ round penalty is enough. Bonzai is OTC, 1-hour clock starts now.

13.03 - Sebowski (from Gator) - REPICK NEEDED

14.04 - PIK95 - SKIPPED VOLUNTARILY

14.07 - Bonzai OTC UNTIL 11:46 AM ET

14.08 - Cheese - ON DECK
