I'm concerned with Girardi, though. I didn't like the hire to begin with, and he's shown me nothing in the 1+years he's been here that he is anything but mediocre. I'm not putting it all on Joe, and he'll most likely get the rest of this season to prove that he can manage here, but I'm unimpressed.
I have to say that Posada should have moved forward to catch the ball, but Posada did a great job blocking balls last night and has always been a good throwing catcher. Posada's weakness has always been his framing of pitches (receiving skills) and his weak blocking of the plate. He calls an excellent game as well.Let's not forget the great defensive catcher (Molina) allowed a run to score on a passed ball and then he didn't bust to get the ball back to Joba. Moilna has also been lazy at blocking balls. Of course Molina throws greatNot that it matters, but when the bases were loaded and I saw pettitte in his full windup I said he better pay attention to Ellsbury or hell steal home just like Toronto did to him two years ago. Lo and behold. BTW Posada is an absolute ####in dreadful defensive catcher. People abuse Jeter but Posada never gets criticized like he should. Horrible
You are right, the announcers were all wrong and so is Blackjack here. Posada and Pettitte both knew he was stealing which is why Pettitte hurried his motion and why posada jumped out of his crouch. What Posada did wrong was he should have met the ball at the plate and "stuffed" Ellsbury. I think he might have been concerned about the swing, but obviously Drew wouldn;t swing with his teammate there.Come on, watch the replay, he looks to his left and elevates out of the crouch. Andy didn't have an eye on him or a grip apparently to throw a fastball. It was a smart baseball play by Elisbury, nothing Posada could have done to prevent that. Pettitte in the wind, Berroa playing shortstop, speedy runner and a lefty bat, perfect storm.Posada didnt even notice Ellsbury was stealing. Seriously.Well what would you have him do, Pettitte didn't step off, he had to make sure the batter wasn't going to swing and blast him into retirement. Not defending his overall defense per say, which I think is average, and while it doesn't bring the club anything, it doesn't cost them too substantially given his bat, but I can't see how he could have handled that particularly play different. Thats a live ball there. Not that it matters, but when the bases were loaded and I saw pettitte in his full windup I said he better pay attention to Ellsbury or hell steal home just like Toronto did to him two years ago. Lo and behold. BTW Posada is an absolute ####in dreadful defensive catcher. People abuse Jeter but Posada never gets criticized like he should. Horrible
I agree I am excited about this game as well for the same reasons. I will say that I liked watching Melancon. You can see a ball that comes out nicely and he has a nice yacker as well.We need to relax and play some ball, the team is talented even if banged up we should be better than we have played.I dont wanna put any pressure on this game but Im looking forward to tonights game more than any this year (except opening day). I wanna see if Hughes finally makes the "leap" that we were all expecting and saw in 2007.
You must mean having the worst pitching in the majors? As for their offseason moves, what wouldn't work about that? Will the Yanks ever realize their recipe does not work?
first placeLast Placeway to open the new joint!!![]()
Good to see some production out of 3rd base!I have to say it is very disapointing to see no fans at the stadium. They really goofed up the ticket pricesAnybody awake over here?
Supposed to rain all weekend so his start vs LA on Sunday may be in jeapardy. Will Hughes get a start vs. the Red Sox in their 2 game stint at Yankee's Stadium? Or will he start the final Angels game?![]()
I like Melky, don't get me wrong, and I hope he continues to hit and becomes a viable every day option for the Yankees, but he basically duplicated his April from a year ago. He hit about .300 with 5 or 6 HRs in April last year and then disappeared offensively for the last 5 months of the season. Let's hope he's figured something out.blackjack23 said:Ive been very impressed with Melky Cabrera's ability to work the count and take walks. If he just cuts down his swing a little and stops swinging for the fences we couldve all been wrong about him. That would be awesome. He looks like a completely different player this year and you can tell hes worked really hard. Remember hes still only 24 (I think).
They won a few games, so the Sox fans are being held at bay while they ponder Beckett imploding.Anybody awake over here?
I like his balance at the plate much better this year. You can see the balance in his swing. he still chases far too many pitches, but he has been really good so far. he is young and he has some skills, but I still think he is a sub par CF'r. he is too slow to cover ground and while many love his arm, I think he takes WAY too long to get rid of the ball which limits his throwing ability. the other day there was a bullet to CF that I was sure we would have a play (Inge was running) and Melky didn't even make a throw. he takes 4-5 steps before he throws and that makes his overall throw average at best. In general he is a solid defensive player at the corners, but i don;t think he can hit well enough for the corners unless he improves his discipline, but that is one of the hardest things to learn.I hope he keeps it up!blackjack23 said:Ive been very impressed with Melky Cabrera's ability to work the count and take walks. While you're right, I think Man is onto something too - Melky is much more patient in the box than last year. There's a noticeable difference. If he continues hitting .290-.300 ball, I'd be very happy with him in centerfield for 10+ years. His defense is already amazing. He's just always been impatient at the plate and dumb around the bases. The guy has zero base-running instincts, which is another reason why Garner was able to win the CF job this spring.I like Melky, don't get me wrong, and I hope he continues to hit and becomes a viable every day option for the Yankees, but he basically duplicated his April from a year ago. C'mon -- best win of the year and I come home to find nobody talking about it?!?Atmosphere there was GREAT in the last two innings. And THAT...is why you don't leave a game early.LET'S-GO-YAN-KEES!!!Clap, Clap, Clap Clap Clap
Its a friday night, we're out partying!I can't believe I didn't go tonight, I was on the fence and the rain, eh that would have been great to check out! Tex almost blew it though. Don't know if he would have scored on Robbie's single, but man oh man, there's NO reason to be breaking back. I did turn to my buddy in the 7th down 9-4 and lifeless and say Fuentes would cough this one up! I'd really like to step on the halos throat for these next two, they've beat on the Yanks for a decade, it'd be nice to punch them in the mouth here. And lets hope the Rays can light up the Boston bullpen in these next two days, get them here staggering and then have the Yanks deliever them a reciept. Robbie's been the AL MVP of the early going, playing the way he's playing on both sides of the ball.C'mon -- best win of the year and I come home to find nobody talking about it?!?Atmosphere there was GREAT in the last two innings. Sometimes there are things at the game that you kind of miss that the people on TV see. But when that single went through to CF and Tex broke back to third, I almost threw up. I didn't miss that one. I screamed YES and then immediately NO!!!! as he broke back to the bag. I have no idea what he was thinking there. And I said the same about Fuentes. My fiance was in her usual, "I can't believe how bad this bullpen sucks, they always lose these types of games, everybody sucks" mode, but I held out hope because this Angel pen can be gotten to.Its a friday night, we're out partying!I can't believe I didn't go tonight, I was on the fence and the rain, eh that would have been great to check out!C'mon -- best win of the year and I come home to find nobody talking about it?!?

Bitter... table for 1.It's cool when a teams like the Yankees come up together through the minors and you can watch and enjoy their development as they start winning close games like this. One day, you can all tell your grandkids that you were there when Yankee legends like Sabathia, Teixiera, A-Rod and Burnett all figured it out on the big-league level. Nothing like it.![]()

The Yankees have given me enough memories in the last 15 years to last the rest of my life pal. You guys are right. I won't tell my grandkids about the players I see today. After all, none of the old-timers ever talk about Ruth, Gehrig, or DiMaggio. Nobody talks about Reggie's 3 HRs either. And why don't they talk about those guys? Because those guys were only Yankees due to the Yankees having the most money and buying them all. They didn't draft or develop a single one, so no one cares about any of them. Now -- doesn't that sound ridiculous? It's cool when a teams like the Yankees come up together through the minors and you can watch and enjoy their development as they start winning close games like this. There were like 12 teams back then and no black people allowed. Who cares. What the Yanks do now in free agency is completely disgusting and people are going to tool on them for it, especially when the team struggles like it did last year. You guys are right. I was waiting for Manute Bol, Jeffery Wright and Lamont From Sanford and Son to get tossed in too! This is great -- last week on MLB Network Vasgersian got into trouble when he mentioned that some guy looked just like Donovan McNabb. He then had to give an on-air apology for his insensitive joke about insinuating that all black people look alike.![]()
So now today, Chone Figgins is batting and here's the conversation:
Michael Kay: "Who does he look like to you?"
Paul O'Neill: "Chad Johnson?"
Kay: "Wrong. Flash, how about you?"
John Flaherty: "Dennis Rodman?"
Kay and O'Neill together: "NO WAY THAT'S CRAZY, WAY OFF!"
Kay: "He looks exactly like Willie Randolph. He looks like his young son!"
Not saying these guys will be or should be in any trouble, just found it humorous that Vasgersian was ripped for something that was true (the guy did look like McNabb), but these three just found a similar look to Chad Johnson, Chone Figgins, Dennis Rodman, and Willie Randolph -- none of whom even look remotely similar!![]()
Sorry about your penis.CC and Teixeira really comin thru...
