So Scherzer is pitching fantastic in his first game as a Tiger and I'm stuck between choosing a Red Wings game (largely meaningless) and a Pistons game (beyond meaningless). Can't even find the Tigers game on the radio.

If you've got DirecTV, they're giving away the baseball package for the week (channels 720 and up)

Game is blacked out locally on those channels so no dice.

1270 am. you near detroit?

 :lmao: :lmao: With the Tigers history v Soria, I thought it was over. Always nice to have a guy that can hit anyone in baseball on your team. :lmao: Come on, get the win here. First nine games v Indians and Royals, need all the wins we can get here.

Never liked Valverde much, should make people miss Rodney. That was awful. Why the hell was Cabrera moving towards third with one out and two on?ETA:

Valverde is Todd Jones with a better fastball. Holy ####.

Don't know which was worse--the way they finished the top or the bottom of the 11th. Those Inge and Laird pop-up inning-killers are going to make me lose it this year. Yeah the Cabrera "steal" was inexplicable, but those atrocious at-bats drive me insane.Valverde looked terrible. About four or five pitches absolutely crushed. Already has as many blown saves as Rodney last year.

#### that inning pissed me off. Not once all year have I been pissed like that when the Red Wings have lost. Tigers are just way too ingrained in my DNA and it's not that healthy. I give everyone a chance but I'm a Valverde fantasy owner and I know what he's all about. He is gonna be a roller coaster, big time.

So in two games Valverde has forgotten how many outs there were and blown a save against the lowly Royals (which means he has already blown as many saves as Rodney did last year). Not exactly endearing himself to me. They need to drop Laird to 9th in the line up.

At least Scherzer had a good start. Hopefully Dontrelle steps up today. They need to win series against teams like the Royals.

Quick question for anyone watching this afternoon. On the first hitter D-Train faced it looked like 2 of the 4 balls were in the strikezone according to ESPN's gamecast. Is gamecast accurate on the location and the ump is making D-Train prove that he can establish control, or is gamecast unreliable when it comes to location?

Add, he is all over the place on the 2nd hitter.

In 41 games against the Royals, Cabrera's hitting .363 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs.

I bet the Royals are glad to see the big guy leave town.

yea team!
Good outing from Dontrelle, hope we are gonna see more of that in the weeks and months to come.
Started off a bit slow but then did well the last few innings. Definitely got bailed out by a few DP's today. I am hoping for the best but he had a great start last year before the wheels came off and this was K.C. Nevertheless, I will take whatever the team can get out of him. Who knows maybe the fact that he is in a contract year will keep him motivated to do well. KC has to have the worst bullpen in the history of baseball. Each time the KC starter left the game KC was up. The bullpen blew a lead every game of the series.

So far so good with Jackson and Sizemore. Sizemore might not have the results to show for it, but he always has a quality at bat. Neither one of these guys looks overmatched.

His AB in the 6th with runners and second and third with one out was not good. However, Sizemore is a professional hitter. He has a good eye and will get his share of walks even when he's slumping. I don't think he's gonna hit .280 this year, but he still will evolve into a quality bat and probably a #2 hitter. Right now I think he should be leading off, but I'm willing to give Jackson a little time.

Sizemore looks pretty good in the field, especially on double plays. I think his hitting will come along in time.

Maggs is crushing the ball like he did in 2008. Cabrera looks like a beast. Hopefully Guillen will come around and make the middle of the lineup stronger.

The pitching is looking really good and it's nice to see a lot of quality arms in the pen. Zumaya looks great and I was not sure what to expect with his velocity after so many arm problems. Obviously, that is not an issue.

I'm happy to see us beating the weaker teams, but I hope we start hitting against quality starting pitching. But I'll take a 3-1 start any day.

Another solid win for the Tigers. Ryan Perry closed it out and his stuff was nasty. :lmao:
If Bondo/Willis can pitch like they did in their first starts even half the time, Tigers will contend.Perry, Zumaya and Coke all pitching like late-inning set-up guys. Cleveland isn't a good team, but they have some decent hitters. The bullpen has made short work of them. Ordonez and Miggy as good as any 3-4 hitters in baseball right now, but like last year, the offense is leaving an obscene amount of men on base. There will be a lot of heart-breakers against the good teams without a clutch hit once in a while.

Here is an early glimpse of the future.

Tigers prospect Jacob Turner steller in pro debut, but Whitecaps fall to Captains, 6-4

By The Grand Rapids Press

April 10, 2010, 6:40PM

EASTLAKE, Ohio -- It’s hard to say which was more impressive: the debut of highly touted West Michigan Whitecaps pitcher Jacob Turner or the Lake County Captains’ introduction to the Midwest League.

Turner was outstanding in his first professional start Saturday at Classic Park, but the Whitecaps still fell to the Captains, 6-4.

Lake County, which previously played in the South Atlantic League, made a smashing Midwest League debut with a three-game sweep of the Whitecaps.

Turner, arguably the best prospect to play for the Whitecaps since Cameron Maybin in 2006, retired 15 of the 17 batters he faced, allowed only one batter to reach second base, struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in five scoreless innings.

He left with a 3-0 lead, but for the second time in three games, the Whitecaps’ bullpen blew a three-run lead.

Turner, who doesn’t turn 19 until May 21, was a first-round draft choice (ninth overall) by the parent club Detroit Tigers last June. His $4.7 million bonus, part of a $5.5 million major league contract, is the largest bonus any major league club has paid to a high school pitcher.

He signed the contract at the Aug. 17 deadline, making it too late for the 6-5, 210-pound right-hander to make his professional pitching debut last season.

Turner, who had committed to play at North Carolina, was considered the best high school pitcher in the 2009 draft.

Baseball America expects him to make the major leagues no later than 2012 and projects him to be the Tigers’ No. 3 starter behind Justin Verlander and Rick Porcello by 2013. The magazine ranks him as Detroit’s No. 1 prospect and lists him 26th on its Top 100 Prospects list.

While Turner, whose fastball reaches 98 mph, was outstanding, the Whitecaps’ bullpen continued to struggle.

West Michigan relievers Victor Larez and Nolan Cain gave up a combined six runs on five hits, including two homers, in three innings. That raised the Whitecaps’ bullpen run totals in the three-game series to 16 in 10 innings.

Turner gave up a two-out single in the first inning, then retired 10 consecutive hitters until a fifth-inning single by former University of Michigan star Adam Abraham, who later added a solo homer.

West Michigan took its 3-0 lead on an RBI single by Eric Roof in the second inning and a two-run homer by Wade Gaynor in the third.

The Whitecaps out hit the Captains 16-7 but left 10 runners on base and went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Bonderman seems to be dealing. Is this really the case?
Yep, his slider is on.
CBS and MLB shows him hanging around 91-93 with the fastball. I'd say that's encouraging.
Yep, when he's healthy his fastball is between 91-94 topping out sometimes at 95. Obviously the slider is his premium pitch, so when he's locating it and his fastball is good he'll be tough. Good start, go Bondo!

wow, what a great week for the Tigers. No doubt an improved team.

If they keep this pace up they have the Central won before August.

If we play Kansas City and Cleveland six times every week, yes, we will win the division by August.
Well I know you are doom and gloom but playoff teams beat the teams they are supposed to beat and the tigers did that this week.
I'm a lot more optimistic this year than I am last year, I think we can win the division but those Twinkies are gonna be tough to beat and if we do win this division it won't be until the very end.

I would be a bit surprised if someone ran away with it.

SofaKings you hit the nail on the head, beat the hell out of the poor teams, play 500 against the Yankee's, Red Sox, White Sox, L.A. = Central title.

A non-boozing Cabrera could be MVP material. The guy is hitting the ball hard every AB.

Getting whooped by the Royals at home. Some things never change. Once again they look terrible against Bannister.

This is not a complaint but it does worry me some that the Tigers will eventually have to face a bullpen better than KC's.
