***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (2 Viewers)

This is not a complaint but it does worry me some that the Tigers will eventually have to face a bullpen better than KC's.
Which is why the tigers have to take advantage of what these type of teams give them.
Well sure. It's great that they are 6-2.The point, though, is that there are better predictors for future record than past record. And some of those worry me.

Starting pitching has been a little shaky so far, that is the only thing that worries me. I think they'll hit better than people think but they will still have their 1 run games.

I have been very happy with the 2 rookies thus far. Jackson has shown way better skills at the dish than I expected, and Sizemore has flashed some signs that he will have a decent year hitting as well. They will need more innings out of the starters or the bullpen will be overworked soon.

Small sample size but Dlugach is hitting real well in Toledo this year. Everett better hit if he wants to keep playing every day.

25.6 — Average age of Detroit's five starting pitchers, youngest in the majors according to STATS Inc. Tampa Bay has the second youngest rotation at an average 26.2 years old.

Didn't know the Tigers were so young at starting pitching, these guys should help the Tigers be contenders for years to come.

I could reluctantly accept that Laird couldn't hit because he would make up for it with his defensive play. So far his defensive play has been atrocious. If he doesn't play well on defense then there's no reason for him to be playing. I also don't get why Leyland continues to bat him 7th in the lineup - move Sizemore up a spot.

The 4 and 5 spots in the rotation are going to be a revolving door all season long. Bonderman and Willis aren't going to be reliable options.

Hopefully Justin can pitch a good game tonight to get things back on track. If they can get out of this road trip 5-5 I'd be happy.

Doubt it. Bonine might get a shot at some point but for now Bonderman and Willis are the guys. Bonderman admitted he made some bad pitches last night, I think he's going to be fine. Willis, who knows.

To many wasted opportunities for this team. I think I heard last night where Laird has been having back problems, Avila was almost in the lineup. If this is the case then it could explain his defensive problems.

This team frustrates me, but since I started exercising on a regular basis I am not as stressed. Just something about watching them on TV makes me forget about the pain of exercising. At this rate I will be down under 200 before the season is over.

It gets real rough for them after the West coast trip - Minn for 2 series, Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox, LA. Gonna be a real tough stretch - no more "gimmes" in that group. The defense really looks like ### lately which has been frustrating.

Lead off triple in the first and they get nothing.

If Avila keeps throwing runners out like that Laird will (hopefully) be seeing more of the pine.....

Avila had a really good defensive game today. Perry pitched like a seasoned vet in the 8th after letting the first two guys on base, that's a good sign for the youngster.

Threw multiple nasty pitches in that inning. The one that got Gutierrez was ridiculous. Coke, Zumaya, Perry and Valverde will lock down the majority of games we have a lead going into the sixth. That's encouraging. But the starters are throwing way, way too many pitches before the fifth and sixth innings, and the offense needs to put up some runs while they're out there. I'm blown away by Jackson. He's going to have his bad stretches, but boy is he contributing right now. I don't know. I see the potential for winning the division but Minnesota has obviously been more consistent so far. They're going to be tough to get ahead of.

Big win tonight, they needed that. Miggy comes through again and Bonderman was very solid tonight along with the bullpen.

I'm going to the game on Saturday in Dallas, looking forward to it.

Could we the Tigs try not falling behind by 3 runs early tonight?

Also, Austin Jackson is sitting on the fence right now. He is striking out a ton and if he is not able to make an adjustment pretty soon he could be in for a major slump. Would love to see this kid adjust to how he is being pitched. This is an important stretch for him.

Do not like his approach at the plate at all.

I am a big fan of Jackson, but he has fanned at least once in each of the 14 major league games he's played, something that's never happened before in big-league history. His total of 23 includes three in each of the last two games. The kid has got to get the strike outs under control. I still think he can be be star.

I am thrilled to end up with a split in LA. If the team can take 2 of 3 from Texas and finish 5-5 on the road trip I am happy with that. It would be nice to actually win the first game of a series for once though.

Guillen to the DL - whoever had 4/23 in their pool won. I knew he's get hurt at some point since he's as durable as glass, but thought he'd at least make it to May. Big loss since we don't really have anyone decent to protect Cabrera in the line up.

DH only and don't let him steal bases or advance more than one base at a time.

What is Leylands obsession with this Thomas guy? Really? He's your emergency starter... and don't get me started on how Leyland will bring him in, in a tied game and let him stay in for three innings while he gives up four runs. WTF?

:goodposting: One more to go for the 5-5 trip.
It's a four game series with the Rangers. And they could lose them both and the tirp would still be a'ight in my eyes.
Yeah, I noticed on Friday it was actually a 4 game series. They still need at least a split v Texas since the upcoming schedule is brutal. Inge is back to looking like crap at the plate. Haven't seen what the deal is with Everett but maybe it creates an opportunity for Dlugach. At the very least, it forces Leyland to play Santiago more which is a good thing. Avila also needs to keep playing and Laird needs to keep sitting. Nice to win yesterday with Thomas on the mound :X I never thought I'd be asking this but when is Miner supposed to be back? I'd rather have him in the pen than Thomas.Zumaya has been awesome this year. Looking like 2006. Never thought I'd see him pitch like this again. Glad I was wrong about him being able to bounce back. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

Looking forward :kicksrock: to the Big Twins VS Tigers  series starting Tuesday

Best bullpen in the American League (Tigers) vs the M & M boys it doesn't get any better then this for early season baseball

Good luck Tigers, the Twins will have to bring their "A" game this week against a greatly improved Tiger team.

4-6 road trip like that is not awful, but seeing Porcello blow up like that today sucked.

Ballpark at Arlington is pretty awesome, had a great time especially after watching Leyland throw Brad Thomas out there to give the Rangers a 4-0 lead. That passed ball play that scored runs was crazy, I was looking at the runner coming home and all of a sudden I see the ball wiz behind him towards third. Rangers fans very mild mannered, good times were had by all.

Detroit's bullpen is a collective 5-2 record and 2.47 ERA in 54 2/3 innings, as of Friday.

Great numbers, but the relievers have had to pitch an average of at least three innings a game. It be interesting to see how the bullpen arms hold up, but so far so good.

Tuesday night Twins Vs Tigers lets get ready to rumble :lmao:

So they blow another big lead today and now have to use up a bunch of arms in the bullpen before the series against Minn starts tomorrow. Fantastic.
