Of course that will change when Inge come back.

hardly no one was against that trade, even with what is still the best position prospect the Tigers have had in their system in 2+ decades. I guess Miller is the "bum," not sure who the oft inj guy is. Maybin played 137 games last year and is quickly becoming an elite player. One thing that will never make it the greatest trade in MLB history is the fact we got Willis back and then Mr I signed him to a $40mm deal.At the time there were a few "never give up prospects" naysayers but even with his off field problems this may be end up being true.It seems like Cabrera just keeps getting better every year, still hard to believe the Tigers were able to get one of the premier run producers in MLB for a bum and a prospect that still can`t stay healthy. This will go down as one of the most lopsided trades in MLB history.

A's send Mark McGwire to Cardinals for pitchers T.J. Mathews, Eric Ludwick and Blake Stein (July 31, 1997)Sure, McGwire's contract was going to expire at the end of the 1997, and the A's didn't think they could take on what they knew would be a multiyear, kajillion-dollar contract. But they still made a mistake. McGwire hit 24 homers in the last two months of 1997, then went on to hit 196 over the next four years before retiring. So the Cards got 220 home runs. The A's? Ludwick went 1-4 with an 8.25 ERA in August and September 1997, and went downhill from there. Blake Stein was 5-9 for the 1998 A's and then was dealt to the Royals, where he's been mediocre at best. T.J. Mathews gave Oakland a few decent seasons and is now with the Astros.
I think the Cards getting prime years from Jim Edmonds for Kent Bottenfeld and Adam Kennedy is more lopsided than the McGwire trade. Those pitchers obviously never panned out, but at the time they were considered prospects with pretty good ceilings.Bottenfeld was a journeyman pitcher who managed to put together one decent year, and Kennedy was the middle-class man's David Eckstein.Edmonds put up pretty good offensive numbers while playing elite defense at the hardest position. His defensive prowess over McGwire was vastly superior to McGwire's offensive prowess over him.A's send Mark McGwire to Cardinals for pitchers T.J. Granted when the trade was made the Tigers felt they were giving up two premium prospects, but they really have not panned out. Miller has bounced around and at 28 I doubt he will ever be more than a #5 starter if that. Florida grew tired of Maybin and sent him to the Padres, although Maybin still could be a decent player he is nowhere near elite yet. Maybin .264 9 HRs and 40 RBIs in over 500 ABs last season. Plus 125 KOs.hardly no one was against that trade, even with what is still the best position prospect the Tigers have had in their system in 2+ decades. How isn't it already? Better than the 2011 AJax, but not 2010 AJax. 2012, they are both off to hot starts.Maybin>AJax HTHGranted when the trade was made the Tigers felt they were giving up two premium prospects, but they really have not panned out. He has more range in center, steals more than double the bases and has more power. I like AJax a lot in CF, but Maybin is better now and going forward IMO.Better than the 2011 AJax, but not 2010 AJax. 2012, they are both off to hot starts.Maybin>AJax HTHGranted when the trade was made the Tigers felt they were giving up two premium prospects, but they really have not panned out. And now a 2 out solo shot...he is playing outstanding.'Doctor Detroit said:AJax getting on base is so critical. Two out walk, Boesch single to get him to third and he scores on a wild pitch. Wa la!
Game over. Porcello was fantastic. I think Maddon left Moore in there thinking there's no way Jackson could have turned it around from 2011. Mistake. Then bring in the TB relievers and open the floodgates for Detroit's hitters. Laird even got a hit/rbi...along with throwing our D Jennings today. And now a 2 out solo shot...he is playing outstanding.'Doctor Detroit said:AJax getting on base is so critical. Yep, real professional win today. Leyland out managed Maddon today and that was a big part. Jim pinch running for Delmon and starting the runners was as good as Maddon not intentionally walking Prince was bad.Game over. Porcello was fantastic. I though for sure he would have walked Young in that situation.Yep, real professional win today. Leyland out managed Maddon today and that was a big part. The only thing that could make this better is Brandon Inge.![]()
Such a solid win. Nothing to complain about in this one. Just a total-team effort with great starting pitching, great bull-pen work, some nice fielding and timely hits, and it was against a terrific team. Porcello came through exactly as needed.
It's easy to get carried away but I really love this squad.

With as good as the Tigers are and as bad as the rest of the division is, there is room for two 20 game winners, Porcello could be a contender. FoxSports Detroit showed a stat of the pitchers under 24 with the most wins. Porcello was on top by more than 10 wins.Rick Porcello was a pleasant surprise today. Could be a special season.
Twenty wins is pretty tough. As good as he pitched, Coke picked up the win. I see 18 as his ceiling. Fister was the man to do it, but probably not now. With as good as the Tigers are and as bad as the rest of the division is, there is room for two 20 game winners, Porcello could be a contender. Tampa Bay used a starting pitcher age 30 or younger for a 900th consecutive game, a streak dating to 2006.

Gonna repost...The Detroit Tigers announced today that Dr. Richard Steadman assessed the ACL in Martinez's knee and decided reconstruction surgery was not necessary. Steadman did perform a procedure to help the healing of the ACL.
The timetable for recovery from the microfracture surgery Martinez underwent January 27 is about seven months, the Tigers said. If that stands, Martinez could return to baseball activities in late August or early September.
They mentioned that he was battling a sinus infection as well.I know they won yesterday, but I was hoping that Avila would be used as a DH on days that he is not behind the plate. I guess full days off are important too, but after a day off in the schedule you would think they would want that bat in the lineup. No big deal, just an observation.
I agree. To me a day off is home resting. 4 ABs is a heck of alot easier than catching 9 innings.I know they won yesterday, but I was hoping that Avila would be used as a DH on days that he is not behind the plate. With Victor in the lineup as DH it could be downright scary.Detroit Tigers' Victor Martinez has shot at playing in 2012

He's gonna have a loss to show for it, complete meltdown.Verlander has pitched 2 beauties, but won't have any wins to show for it.
