1 is debatable..we will see. This year he has not looked so hot. Last year he pitched unbelievable great when he had too. It was incredible he pitched himself into so many jams and yet did not blow a save. The odds against doing that has to be better than one in a thousand.Reading over the comments so far......Let's relax, the season is 162 games long.1. Valverde is still the best close in the AL.2. Miguel is playing better at 3rd than any of us would have hoped for.3. Austin Jackson is exceeding expectations as a lead off hitter.4. Dan Dickerson is still the most excited fan/radio voice in MLB.I would feel better with one more starter, but lets see where we are at as the trade deadline approaches.Peace
was that before or after they let jackie robinson play?200 wins in 17 years? good for his timeI guess.Hal Newhouser won two consecutive MVP awards during WWII and finished second in voting the following year. He ended up winning 200 games for some mediocre Tiger teams with a .575 winning percentage and 130 ERA+.Inge-Sanity!!!Verlander is the best Tigers pitcher of all time, easily

Valverde was dominant in save situations. Just about all of his bad games were in non-save situations. He did not pitch himself into very many jams last year in save situations. If I recall correctly, in 37 of his 47 save opportunities Valverde allowed one or fewer baserunners. I don't know how you can do much better than that.1 is debatable..we will see. I heard Rod Allen talking about how he does not understand why Valverde is so crappy in "non-save" situations. It is just an inning of pitching....just get three outs regardless of the situation.Valverde was dominant in save situations. Just about all of his bad games were in non-save situations. Lot of pretty similar stats for Newhouser, Morris, and Lolich (and all three trail Hooks Dauss' 223 wins from 1912-26 and George Mullin's 228 wins from 1902-15).Newhouser (1939-55): 200-148 with Detroit. 3.07 ERA, 1.31 WHIP. 1,796 career K's.1945 Tigers' WS championship. League MVP in 1944 and 1945, as noted.Morris (1977-1994): 198-150 with Detroit. 3.73 ERA, 1.27 WHIP. 2,478 career K's.1984 Tigers' WS championship (and also championships in 1991 and 1992 ...MVP in 1991).Lolich (1963-1979): 207-175 with Detroit. 3.45 ERA, 1.22 WHIP. 2,832 career K's.MVP of 1968 Tigers' WS championship (overshadowed in '68 by McLain's 31 win season).Morris ended up with 254 total wins; Newhouser had 207; Lolich had 217.Verlander is now at 108-58. 3.51 ERA, 1.19 WHIP. 1,238 K's. If he stays on his game for at least five years, he'll have stats right with those three ...it'd be nice to also have a WS championship as they all did! If JV has 7-10 solid years, he could blow by them.Hal Newhouser won two consecutive MVP awards during WWII and finished second in voting the following year. Last outing was somewhat better than before, with lots of strikeouts. Once Fister comes back I think with Verlander & Porcello they have a pretty decent top 4.I hope Max can find his stuff tonight? He has been the weak link in an otherwise great rotation so far.
Dauss and Mullin were innings eaters who were right around league average in terms of adjusted ERA. Newhouser maintained an ERA+ of 130 over fourteen years as a Tiger. By comparison, Morris only had one season in Detroit where he exceeded that mark.'tri-man 47 said:Lot of pretty similar stats for Newhouser, Morris, and Lolich (and all three trail Hooks Dauss' 223 wins from 1912-26 and George Mullin's 228 wins from 1902-15).Newhouser (1939-55): 200-148 with Detroit. 3.07 ERA, 1.31 WHIP. 1,796 career K's.1945 Tigers' WS championship. Smyly is looking like a solid #5 guys too. Last year #4 and #5 were almost guaranteed loses. I maybe premature though. Porcello looks to have made some real strides as well as Austin Jackson, those two should be key this year.Smyly is looking like a solid #5 guys too. Last year #4 and #5 were almost guaranteed loses. He's such a tease ...leaving guys on base early to create a little drama for the later innings. No wonder we love him so.The only question which remains is how Inge is going to pull this one out.![]()
RR can`t hit until after June.Ryan Raburn isn't worth a tray full of Marlboro cigarette butts.
Easily the most worthless spot on the roster.Ryan Raburn isn't worth a tray full of Marlboro cigarette butts.
Gritty vet..willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win.'jon_mx said:Inge moves to 4-0....the guy is a machine.![]()
All Inge does is win!!Thank goodness Inge is back on track with an 0-4, 2 K night. All is right with the world again.
I'd be good with a split.Texas is +39 runs so far this year & Tigers have 2 rookies starting this 4 game series. Might be doing well if the tigers get a series split out of it.

His breaking ball was pretty nasty. He was consistently hitting about 93 with his fastball. I would much rather wait for one of his fastballs then try to connect with his curve which was making people look pretty bad.'Encyclopedia Brown said:Darvish doesn't look all that overpowering, but it seems that Detroit just can't get a feel for him, and they look out of synch.
and he's AAA boundLittle Stink never met a runner he didn't like to let score.
Daniel Schlereth is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Friday.
No surprise here, as Schlereth has struggled mightily in the early going, posting a 12.60 ERA and 3.20 WHIP in his first five appearances. Brayan Villarreal is an option to replace him in the bullpen.
Games which Inge Played.... 4 - 0Games he didn't............ 5 - 5Inge is now the best .071 hitter (1 for 14) in the major leagues.
