As far as Ballfour goes, his last trip to Detroit he blew a game as I recall. Just being a d-bag in apparent victory I guess.
And he lets Sanchez face a LHB that flat out owns him in Seth Smith.Oakland replaces Parker after 5 innings - 5 hits, a walk, 73 pitches. Leyland rides Sanchez until it's too late (including 100+ pitches).Jim Leyland really sucks at his job
The Tigers have the look of a beaten team and the As look energized. But as the skipper says "You are only as good as your next days starter"hmmmm..depressing that the season is coming down to this. Not sure what to do to get the bats on fire. Strippers in the dugout maybe?![]()
yeah I dont get it, used to be that 3man rotations were the norm in the playoffs not too long ago.The Tigers have the look of a beaten team and the As look energized. I would have liked to seen the Tigers come back with Max today and have Fister and Porcello on high alert from the get go. Fister is more than capable but I would rather go down or up with the Cy Young winner.
New manager? Talent's getting them only so far.hmmmm..depressing that the season is coming down to this. Not sure what to do to get the bats on fire. Strippers in the dugout maybe?![]()
The extra round makes 3 man rotations difficult. It's one thing to ask a SP to pitch on short rest once or twice. But with a maximum of 20 possible playoff games, I don't see how you can go to the well that early and often.yeah I dont get it, used to be that 3man rotations were the norm in the playoffs not too long ago.The Tigers have the look of a beaten team and the As look energized. Just too many dead bats in this lineup.
It is not like 2 thru 8 is getting on base either. When you are 0 for 9, the lineup really does not matter.Same line-up with AJax at the top. And same start with lead-off man Crisp getting on base. There's the series in a nutshell.
Jim Leyland is a brilliant manager for putting Peralta back into the line-up. It's like we're watching managerial genius right before our eyes.tri-man 47 said:hmmmm..depressing that the season is coming down to this. Not sure what to do to get the bats on fire. Strippers in the dugout maybe?![]()

You can just stop commenting on baseball now.WHy pitch Max? Need him for the next game...
He did load the bases up with no one outs. He was brilliant getting out of that. Smyly could have pitched two innings and given up only one run too. Then we still have Max for Tomorrow and JV for game one of the next series. It was a desperation play to pitch Max IMHO and unnecessary. You can just stop commenting on baseball now.WHy pitch Max? There is no tomorrow. If you have a likely Cy Young winner at your disposal, late in a tie-game situation, you use him. Not really sure what else qualifies as desperation. He did load the bases up with no one outs. He was brilliant getting out of that. Smyly could have pitched two innings and given up only one run too. Smyly has been one hell of a relief pitcher for the Tigers. Throwing Scherzer in a relief situation is dicey. It is a different mentality and not his normal routine of getting into the right mindset. It worked, but by no means a slam dunk. Having JV pitching well as of late is a big help. There is no tomorrow. Couple that with having Verlander sitting there ready for Game 5.

Agree with Limpy on Max, he was the guy to pitch the 7th and 8th for sure. If you lose with your best guy, that's a tip of the cap to the A's. Smyly hasn't been brilliant since June, he's not the guy there either.

We were fortunate as hell that Scherzer found his stuff after giving up a run the inning before than loading up the bases with no outs in the next inning. That was a very long shot to get out of without giving up no runs. No reason at all to think Smyly could not have done just as well in those two innings. I don't care how good Scherzer is, there was some luck involved that one of the hitters did not put a ball in play and score a run or two. Scherzer has a routine he goes through before he starts a game. He was not himself prior to striking out those three. Best 118.00 I spent in a long time. They were selling tickets below cost outside the park yesterday..scalpers must have taken a good beating. Was at the game last night. Phenomenal!
The crowd was all kind up amped up at the start of the game until that friggin leadoff triple put everyone's butts back in their seats. And through the 4th, the whole crowd was miserable.
But that first bloop for Fielder just lit it up again. And then Jhonny's homerun blew the whole place up. When he headed back out to LF after the inning, he got a standing o and chants of his name from the crowd. Awesome.
Then between Victor's homerun and Max's 8th, I don't think my heart has resumed it's normal pace yet.
I agree on dropping him down but I doubt if Leyland will do it. Can only hope he bounces out of as he has before on occasion. It's really amazing they won with so little production from the top of the lineup. But what to do about AJax? Hope that a fresh series/fresh slate is enough? His last AB, and last swing, were pathetic. I would drop him in the order.
I found this, not 100% on the source:Doctor Detroit said:Fister is pitching in Boston???? Should be Max game 2 no?
Leyland got it right. Have to set it up so Max and JV get a chance to pitch twice.I found this, not 100% on the source:Doctor Detroit said:Fister is pitching in Boston???? Should be Max game 2 no?

J-Honny was great, but it's pretty obvious who the MVP of that series was.Best 118.00 I spent in a long time. They were selling tickets below cost outside the park yesterday..scalpers must have taken a good beating. Was at the game last night. Phenomenal!

Before Peraltas HR you could have heard a pin drop in Comerica. What is up with Fielder? The way he is hitting we should put him at leadoff...slapping the ball to left like Ichiro with zero power. I thought for sure he was going to bust out with a HR or some gappers yesterday. Can`t remember the last time he drove the ball with any type of power.
Looked like we caught a break on Jacksons ball..the play was right in front of me and it seemed Reddick help up a second at the start. A-Jax needed a hit so bad.
If Peralta does anything on Thursday could he be the series MVP? If anything J-Honny is locking down a nice contract somewhere for next year..power hitting shortstops will be in high demand.
Veras pitches looked very sharp//curve was unhittable. I love when AA gets an 0-2 count on hitters. The feeble waves at the slider are fun to watch.Rondon started a throwing program this morning to test the elbow, hope that goes well.
Speaking of relievers, really like what Veras did last night. Not surprised by Al Al, he can do that one night then be completely terrible the next.

Good point. If just one of these two would start hitting, it'd do a lot for the team's offense. Why aren't people all over Torii Hunter like they are Austin Jackson? Hunter's ABs have been horrible. I get Jackson has been striking out a ton, but when he does hit it at least he has, for the most part, been hitting it hard. Hunter should take whatever it is Jhonny Peralta has moved on to.
