Old Thread About Guitar Deal Gone Bad But Now It's Back ON! (1 Viewer)

He decided to keep the guitar.
Did you up the offer at all?
No, I didn't need to. If he decided to go through with the sale, I'd have bought it for $6500. I spoke to him yesterday and he said he was having 6 players over last night. The message he left today was that they all agreed that the guitar was special and he should sell his other guitars.

I'm ok with that but wish he'd decided otherwise.

Still doesn't solve his original problem which is his wife will neither get a good price nor find a good home for it, thus disrespecting her husband and causing him unnecessary stress and grief as he lives out the rest of his retirement. You can solve both problems for him and be a friend who allows him to come over and jam from time to time. Invite him over for coffee and keep the relationship going.

It will take more than that for him to leave it to chet in his will. Maybe first dibs if chet even thought of asking.

I contact an 81yo man about a high end guitar that he has listed for sale. He tells me that he doesn't want his wife dealing with it when he passes and that he doesn't play much anymore. He also tells me that someone else has contacted him and that he wants to give that guy a chance. A day later, I make an offer for 70% of his asking price and he hems for a second and then says would you do 76%? I agree, and then he says but I have to give the other guy a couple of days to see it. "I wouldn't feel right because he contacted me first. If he backs out, we have a deal." Fine.

Later that day, I get a message saying that the other guy can't make it to see the guitar and I think I am golden. He then says his friends are telling him that he's crazy to sell at that price and he's having second thoughts. He wants to wait a couple of weeks etc. I call him and he says he's sorry for reneging on the deal but it may still work out. #### me.
Next time, send the offer via MFL.com and have him accept there...and hope your league doesn't veto it.

I talked to him today and he's willing to sell the guitar for more than we agreed to last year.  He said his nephew in Atlanta wants the guitar but he'd understand if I sold it.  Also, he has a Brazilian Santa Cruz and doesn't need a second guitar.

I will decide in the next few days if I'm going to buy it.

I'm contemplating whether or not to buy another pair of Exofficios.  I'll let the FFA know what I decide.
