Opposite of Buy low sell high? (1 Viewer)

I'm not sure about your leagues, but the owners in mine are always willing to part with a hot player like Lloyd, Nicks, Bradshaw Foster for a highly ranked player like Ray Rice, MJD, Randy Moss, or Andre Johnson.

Which of these upstarts are for real and worth a 1 to 1 trade for one of these 1st RD draft picks?

I'm a much bigger believer in this tactic than the buy low sell high. I'm a trader by profession, and I've NEVER EVER bought any stock or futures contract "low" and sold it "high." I buy high and sell higher and sell short low and sell lower. At least in trading, that's the way to go. In fantasy football, I like this strategy as well. For someone like Nicks, the chance is probably already gone. But if you catch the guys quickly after they show they have something, like Peyton Hillis after the Baltimore game, or Mark Clayton (now injured) after his first big game, you get these guys for what seems like "high" at the time, but after the fact looks like a great deal. Peyton Hillis for Jon Stewart, at the time, seemed high to a lot of my co-owners. To me it seemed a very good trade, and now it looks even better.

Fantasy baseball is another matter, there i've always bought low. I traded for Longoria (Danks+Huff), Ryan Braun (not really since i gave up Lincecum), Papelbon (Capps+Kevin Gregg), etc etc.

 Too many sharks are caught up with the buy low sell highs. Real value lies in buying high, before they get higher.

I'd be buying Foster, Nicks, and Bradshaw if their owners are selling high.

Nicks especially. This season reminds me of Roddy White a few years back... breaking into the top tier of WR, and doubters questioning if its a long term move or a 1 year wonder. I'm betting Nicks is a long-term move to the top tier of elite WR.

Out of the upstarts you have listed, I am the most shocked @ Lloyd. It never crossed my mind that he'd produce to the point of challenging the NFL's single-season record in receiving yardage.

On a side-note Brandon's QB is on pace for Marino's single-season yardage record.

Same goes for Nicks, even though I thought he'd be a top 20 w/o, I didn't see him challenging the NFL's rec. TD total.

Bradshaw shouldn't be listed, his production is better than last season, but he is not worthy, yet.

If you think that Nicks and Lloyd will sustain their production, than you'd be silly not to acquire them. I myself wouldn't trade any of the 1st' rounders ( Rice, MJD, Moss, Johnson) for Bradshaw, and would only consider Moss for Nicks or possibly Lloyd.

Who are the top picks to sell "low" at this point?

Here's a list of underperformers:

Chris Johnson, MJD, Ray Rice, Steven Jackson, Shonn Greene, DeAngelo Williams, Ryan Matthews, Jamaal Charles.

Obv, the first 3 are doing good of late, so I'd think you'd still hold onto them over Foster or Bradshaw, but would you trade Steven Jackson or Jamaal Charles for Foster or Bradshaw?

On the WR front, would you trade Larry Fitz, Reggie Wayne, Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, DeSean Jackson, or OchoCinco for Nicks or Lloyd?

I always read trades on here where someone trades Lee Evans for Nicks, or JStew for Bradshaw but let's be realistic here and not talk about guppie leagues.

I have to disagree here. Currently, through 5 games, he is outproducing over 1/2 the pre-season top 10 RBs. SJAX, MJD, Rice, Turner and DWill. Gore, CJ, ADP and Mendenhall are ahead of Bradshaw ( with R. Grant on IR to round out the preseason consensus top 10 - via FBG rankings )If someone were selling Bradshaw on the premise that this current production to date makes him a sell high candidate, I'd be on the buying end. I expect his production to be fairly steady throughout the season, barring injury. I don't see his value as inflated, but as indicative of what he'll do this year.

CJ, MJD, Rice I'd hold onto. The rest I'd trade for Foster in a heartbeat. Greene, DWill and Matthews I'd trade for Bradshaw. WR - I'd trade Jackson and Ocho for Nicks. I'd have to think about Fitz(QB), AJ(injury) and Moss(MIN fit?). I'm holding Wayne. I'd trade Ocho for Lloyd, but thats about it. I have no faith that he continues to produce at this level.

Jackson, Greene, DeAngelo, and Mathews I'd easily sell for Foster or Bradshaw.Charles is a different case. He's undervalued right now. He had more carries than TJ last game (twice as many). He's going to explode. JMO.

Nicks is for real. All of those guys are sideways moves, at best.Another one to throw in here is Floyd. He's going to jump into the top 6 or 7 this week after his huge game. #1 WR on great pass offense. I'd rather have Floyd than Lloyd. Compared to the studs, Ocho is the only one I'd easily sell on.

How about Benson, Jahvid Best, LeSean McCoy and Addai tier? Is Bradshaw worth one of these straight up?

I lilke Best as a buy low. I thinkt the toe is bothering him. They play the Giants this week so he should do little there. Then they have their off week for him to rest. They should get Stafford and probably CJ back at full strength. Look out in the last half of the year.
