Optimal Scoring / Optimal Line-Up? (1 Viewer)

Has anyone every played in or considered an Optimal Scoring league?

Where each week the best possible starting line-up from your entire roster is used to get your weekly points. NOT all player's scores combined, but just the best starting line-up possible according to your league's format.

Your whole team would be considered in every game, not just playing studs & filling holes. The league would be more about roster vs roster and who built the better overall team. Prospects would have an immediate impact & all players would be considered each week. It seems it would minimize luck and make roster depth very important. Even if you have solid starters, you would still want to have the best backups possible since they are involved in the game.

Dont know if this would be a good league or not. The theory sounds good, but I havent talked to anyone that has played in a serious league using this format.

Like Grim said: best-ball leagues.

My 12-team auction league switched to BB a couple years ago. We still have trades/adds/drops, etc (I believe draftmaster leagues are typically "draft and forget it.") BB leagues have their own negative aspects, but overall, I think my league really likes it. IMO, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. On the flip side, some poeple love to set lineups and pick their starters. It's all subjective...

my Dynasty League is best ball....1/2/3/1/1/1 plus 2 RB/WR/TE flex.....5/1.0/1.5 PPR.....26 player rosters and all draft/waivers features as in any "standard" WDIS league.....able to concentrate more on roster building/drafting/waivers/trades as no time needed for WDIS....

I knew it wasn’t a new idea, but I have not really heard of any league using it (until today) and if those leagues liked the format.

I am curious about the disadvantages. The only one I could think of is it breaks with the traditional format & some owners don’t like change. Perhaps not asking WDIS each week would make the game dull?

Monty's league sounds perfect to me. I like the deep roster concept where every player is involved. Seems that the better built teams & smart owners would have the advantage (which is perfect) and the weak or lazy owners would naturally suffer. I like anything that minimizes luck and improves the value of an owner's strategy.

Not everyone wants it to be about penalizing lazy owners. I play with my buds and not everyone is reading nfl articles all the time. Imo it should be about going head to head based on judgment and intuition (and some studying), rather than based mostly on who pays the most attention.

I think the one downside if you tried it to do it in a dynasty league would be that it would make it much more costly to carry prospects. You would be punished for carrying guys like Ryan Mallett, Marcus Lattimore, etc. vs. using those spots on random veterans who give you some random big weeks.

I can see that. I think an owner's judgment and intuition is the same thing as paying attention. Paying attention is a requirement of good judgment, anything else is guessing.

When I say weak or lazy owners, Im talking about the guys who dont get involved. If they have no transactions all season or havent signed on & changed their lineup in 3 weeks, they are lazy owners. Best Ball would not allow a poorly managed team to excel against a solid team over an entire season. No one is penalized, everyone is rewarded for the team they field.

If youre a degenerate gambler, being in a hundred best ball leagues is the way to go, but if youre in only a couple leagues, its very hard to find people offline that will play bestball. A lot of people feel its isn't worth playing if you aren't starting a roster.
