Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (21 Viewers)

Not sure what is going on, but I'm in. I'll find my way once the brain fog lifts.

Starting stats are about the same as last year. 212 (on a 6' frame), and I'll ballpark BF at about 27%.

I'll snap a before pic today. Got about 8 months of hair growth working, and anout 2 months of unibomber beard going on too. I want to drop down to 165 and rock a flat top come summer time.

FU 2016!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE OMG UPDATE

--> Some dude made a really good point that some of these other dudes have pretty low post counts.  I hate to be a Richard, but it's a fair point--I'm usually ubertrusting of dudes posting here, but cstu is basically why we can't have nice things.  So I'm doing some gating based on guys who either have a high post count and have been around a long time or guys who I know are reliable.   How do I know?  Well, to hell with you, I'm assuming, and I'm probably wrong and some jackhole is going to run off with all our money, but if we're all thin and handsome, I've probably spent a hundred bucks in far worse ways.

--> Since so many dudes are having snowball fights and eating hot dogs at their mom's house and stuff tomorrow, we're going to aloe two start day options. THAT'S RIGHT, THE CONTEST BEGINS ON 1/1 or 1/2., do your original weigh in whichever day you prefer.  And it ENDS ON 4/1, APRIL FOOL'S DAY, or 4/2, depending on your start date.  Because really, as I said here over a bucket of chicken fingers and ranch dressing on my couch tonight, it dawned on me that we're doing a huge disservice here in encouraging some folks to be disgusting for an extra day for the sake of this contest.  So start whichever day you like, end 3 months later.  Me?  I'm fat as ####, and ever hour I allow this to continue is taking years off my life.  I'm going first thing tomorrow.

Current listing so far:

  • Otis
  • James Daulton
  • Tiger Fan
  • ProstheticRGK
  • Woz
  • AcerFC
  • matuski
  • Sabertooth
  • East Coast Bias
  • glvsav37
  • fantasycurse42?
  • Yankee23Fan?
  • BassnBrew
Anyone else?

NEW AND IMPROVED CONTEST RULES:

  • Must pre-pay $100 to Otis as cash holder.  Otis will pay out winnings and arbitrate any dispute in his sole O-discretion.
  • Winner and runner-up split the proceeds 70/30.  We're up to good dollars here now, so it's a nice payout either way, and there are a couple reasons I think this makes sense which I won't post here just yet.
  • 3-month contest.  Weigh in on January 2, weigh out on April Fool's Day
  • Winner determined based on percent of total weight lost
  • Must do regular checkins with progress.  No showing up 3 months later and being all "HAHA SURPRISE, I LOST A BRZILLION POUNDS I WIN"
  • Otis is not allowed to pull a :cstu:
  • No you can't do your first weigh-in with sand in your pockets--all weigh-ins must be totally naked, for god to smile down on you in all your fat splendor.
  • We're on the honor system.  Not the cstu honor system, but like, actual honor.  So don't be a Richard.
I need your info to pay in.

These contradict.  So we weigh in 1/1 or 1/2 and it ends 4/1 regardless?  Or 1/1-4/1 and 1/2-4/2?

I'm pretty sure my scale is broken (being serious), I'm only showing 224.4 - honestly, with what I've done this week I was expecting 230+, and I'm usually +/- 1 or 2 pounds guessing my own weight. I'm packing it on today and I'll give myself a weigh at my gym tomorrow.

I'm in.

I'm skeptical, not to be a ####, but getting shafted $700 on a previous board bet was a little annoying - I agree with the before/after pictures mentioned earlier.

They can be sent to Otis for verification, but when the winner inevitably says they lost some absurd amount of weight like 62 pounds - I'm gonna want Otis to confirm with some pictures.

PM the PayPal

I'm 6-6 as well. Big frame so I can hold 275 well and look good. But given my health issues I probably need to get myself to about 260 to feel a lot better.

I'm in Otis.  I weighed in this morning at 310.2.  No not a type o.  Surprised the scale didn't scream. PM me your info.
Holy crap you're tall. You must be quite the imposing opposing counsel.

This is supposed to be a friendly, self improvement wager between ibuddies.  If you some of you will get all butt hurt about risking a hundred bucks, then don't enter.  Jeez, Oats has taken reasonable precautions enough with which posters he let in, outlined rules etc.  Have fun, be competitive, get healthier and stop worrying about losing your 1/10 rack.

Yeah I know it can be scary, but I've engaged in bets/pools/leagues with a least 3-4 guys involved here. And Otis is definitely one of the top 3 safest guys on here to hold the bets.

Obviously I think the threat here is somebody cheating by falsifying results. There's probably no fool proof way to prevent that but I think the contest is long enough and with guys checking in regularly I think we are pretty okay. At most we are going to have a grand at stake so 700 to the winner - a nice payout but nothing so incredible that I think it's worth possibly ruining one's reputation.

Lastly, as Otis eluded to, in the event I do get ripped off here but I also lose like 30 lbs and this bet was the primary motivation for doing so then it was money well spent.

I imagine the $100 isn't going to hurt anyone here.  If Otis throws an office pizza party with my $100 after I lose 25+ lbs.. cool.

WE FOUND CSTU ALIAS!!!

A few comments here:

1.  I trust Otis 100%, he's paid various debts/bets here in the past...but I can understand people's skepticism b/c of the CTSU deal.  Given that...why not use leaguesafe to hold the funds?  Sure there's a few % transaction fee...but worth it for peace of mind for the doubters.

2.  Whatever method of payment we go with, if you're not paid up by 1/2, you're not eligible for the payout...simple as that.

3.  Perhaps this is a tad selfish, but any way of having the final weigh in on 3/31?  I'd rather end of a Friday to celebrate the hard work all weekend.

I cheated and started hitting the diet hard a couple weeks ago. I am going low fat high fiber, high fruit n veggie, none of you will like it but the weight flies off fast.

No sugar No sugar No sugar

I have no issue paypaling Otis.

TBH, if Otis took off without paying it would make the greatest thread ever, I can't imagine how funny that would be.

1.  I trust Otis 100%. I don't think it's worth the transaction fee.

2.  Agree entirely - assuming Otis actually dishes out his PayPal info soon.

3. I like where your heads at here as it would be nice to end on a weekend, but several of us are starting 1/2. Although I'd have no problem with a 3/31 and 4/1 end date, respectively.

Agree with all of this.

Agree with all of this.

   Ignore my initial #1....I was reading the "skepticism" as payment vs. cheating.

Let's make this more complicated and scale the buy-in according to where you live.  NYC and San Fran buy-in $200.  Mississippi buy-in $50....

The rules are set, stop ####### with them!

I'll think about it. I need to lose at least 30 lbs. My pants are tight and my cholesterol is a little high. 4 years ago I used myfitnesspal and exercised every day and lost closer to 60 lbs. I was the lowest I've been since HS at 200 lbs. I kept it off for almost 3 years but it started creeping up and this year exploded due to stress eating. I am at around 240 now. That being said I'm hesitant to do the challenge because I need a long term plan. Slow and steady wins the race. Not a 3 month course. If this was a year long challenge I'd be in. Also I do think someone can easily lie about their weigh in.

Most of the names on the list I trust, but the CSTU thing was a sobering reminder that for a few dollars people can be #######s. If someone else here would've been shafted, you'd prob be feeling my skepticism. TBH, I've got no shot since the percentages I'm chasing prob won't win when I hit the goals, but I also don't want a legit winner who goes from like 255 to 223 to get shafted by one disingenuous person. Someone goes from 297-232, a picture to Oats isn't a huge deal IMO.

All im saying is every fatty should take a picture now - if you lose enough to win, you should be proud of what you did.

My CV:

Post count is about Quality not Quantity ?

Fitbit Aria scale.  No cheating that demon temptress.

I rock a mean handlebar mustache if so required.  Well I have never grown one but have no doubts I could.

I was brought to the FFA by the legend of the blue onion thread so I know the reach of the FFA.

Bottom line: Following the CSTU thread I think we were all reminded these are the interwebs so I agree now that the pot is getting up there the chances that people will be dishonest also increases.  Before I make up my mind will my CV be considered?

Either way let's link up MFP or Fitbit accounts for good measure.

It is a year round contest. The playoffs start 4/2.

***Initial Weigh In***

252.6 - At 5' 11" that puts my BMI at 35.2 - Obese

Diet is terrible, haven't regularly exercised in years and sit at a desk all day.

Realistic weight loss goals for Jan, Feb and March are 12, 10 and 8 for a total of 30 pounds (11.9%).  If I get off to a strong start I could see 15, 12 and 10 for 37 pounds (14.6%).

Currently in size 42 pants and XXL shirts.

I'm hungry.

Within a minute of posting my stats, I got a notification from the McDonald's app on my iPhone.  Today is Panther's game day and I can celebrate with a buy 1 get 1 free quarter pounder with cheese.

Oats isn't the issue. Glad he did the 70/30 thing. I was going to suggest 50/30/20 since it's about losing weight and not the money

that said oats still owes me a dollar on a some Cleveland rb he said was a lock for 1000 yd

I agree, a before and after pic is a small thing to ask from the winners; and it doesn't have to be revealed to the public. If I win though, I'll definitely post my pics.

I'm assuming that I am in, but if I don't make the cut I'll still play along. I don't have a scale so I'll have to make use of the one at the gym, which is closed on Jan 1st - of all days!

Found my Fitbit Blaze. Shockingly, the battery is drained.

Folks raising some good points here about the money thing.  I thought maybe the before and after pics might resolve that, but of course what's to stop someone from finding some before and after pics somewhere on the internet and claiming it's them?  (Hold a penny perhaps??)

Anyway, I'm happy to do this without the money.  I'm not here for the money; I'm here for the glory of victory and the chance to call you guys fatties, as well as the chance to feel young and handsome again.  Or I'm happy to do it with money.  Up to you guys.

And BnB can pry that American dollar from my cold dead hands.  (What was the bet?  Do you take faxes of pennies?)

I'd be open to shipping my $100 to the charity of choice for the winner.

If by chance I'm the winner, I'd be more than happy to have people send money to the charity of my choice.

Mrs. O and Daughter O asked me to run out and get bagels/bagels with bacon and cheese.  A weekly tradition.  I came back with stuff for everyone else, just a coffee for old Oats.  Threw a rack of potatoes backing in the oven.  It's go time.

That works great for me too.  Would others be on board with that?  Look at it this way: you're about to get stopped by the O-dawg, you might as well get a tax write-off.  Ammiright?

And this means I don't need to hold everyone's loot.  Which would rule.  We'll all just post receipts showing the donations at the end.

GB, do it.  Momentum is a powerful force.  If you jump on board and three months from now you're made a ton of progress towards your goal, that will motivate you to keep going.  It'll be good for you overall.  And as noted, this is just the beginning.  We can start another round later.

Forget about the money part, just join the challenge.

Probably better this way. You get this many people involved and it's a lock that someone will come down with a case of butt hurt. Besides, I'm oddly motivated to make you write a check to a pitbull rescue org.

In for whatever you whatever you want to do. Charity is fine with me too

:lmao:

Good shtick possibilities here.  I wouldn't mind making one of the political nerds write a check to some charity affiliated with the opposite party.
