Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (1 Viewer)

Yeah, I think you are wrong.  Maybe it would help if I told a story:

My dream is to run a marathon.  So far I've entered 5 marathons.  I know I can do it because every time I do great for the first two miles.  I don't even walk or anything, and I'm even way ahead of a lot of people.  But then around mile 3 I always make the choice to stop.  That's my fault.

I'm doing my sixth marathon soon.  This time I'm just going to keep doing what I did the first two miles for the whole 26.  Wish me luck!
I think the metaphor is that running a marathon is a stupid dream, and so is dieting.

What can you have on the potatoes?  Any non calorie items ok?  I cut them into fries, steamed in the microwave for a few minutes, tossed with seasoned salt, cayenne and garlic powder, place on a baking sheet lined with parchment and baked for 15-20 to crisp.  Any issue with that?  I assume ketchup is a no-no with the sugar but what about mustard?
It's your diet, so it's totally up to you. You can put hot fudge and whipped cream on them if you want, but you should understand what you're giving up by doing so.

Part of the benefit of eating potatoes is that they're a bulky, fibrous, filling food relatively low in calories. So by eating potatoes, you're displacing more calorie-dense foods and therefore consuming fewer calories for the same level of fullness. Adding mustard or vinegar or salt and other spices won't detract from this benefit. Adding ketchup will increase the overall caloric density of the meal and will thus detract from this benefit a little, but you might judge that the enhanced flavor is worth the cost.

Another benefit of eating potatoes is that they are very bland, and by sticking to a bland food for a while, you're resetting your palate in a way that will help you eat healthier once you resume eating normal foods. Most Americans have been habituated to super-palatable foods like Doritos, and therefore find steamed broccoli totally unappetizing. By resetting your palate with a very bland diet for a while, you will come out of it finding steamed broccoli absolutely delicious. (I'm exaggerating only a little.) You won't hanker for Doritos. By adding mustard or other flavor-enhancers to your potato, you will no longer get the full extent of this benefit.

When I clicked on that and saw it was 39 minutes, I figured I'd last 30 seconds watching it. I couldn't stop watching. Just amazingly fascinating. Do you have any experience using his methods, Maurile?
Only a little. I actually bought the program this past April and got started on the breathing stuff, but then I slacked off and discontinued it. I do that with a lot of stuff.

I just picked up this new book by Scott Carney, though, and now I'm motivated to start it up again. I'm about halfway through the book, and it's a good read.

I understand that welll- trying new stuff and then slacking off. I'd be really interested in hearing your thoughts/experiences, if you're ever inclined to share them. My curiosity is piqued with his method.

I believe in the plausibility of awakening "superhuman" abilities after reading a ton of accounts of Zen masters, Sufi dervishes and yogis unlocking "God mode" but am still skeptical. The endotoxins test that Wim Hof and his students did, was pretty amazing. And thanks for the book recommendation.

Thursday night out at the pub was a bit of a cheat. Let's just say I was fairly unsteady from liquid calories when I came home in the wee hours

Friday on the other hand I was so not hungry, had lots of water, dinner at 8.30 was 5 oz ham and half a (small) plate of sliced poatoes with mustard.

This morning some leftover pasta/lentil/tomato sauce and some ham.

Went to my business partner's house had three beers, three home made sticks of beef jerky (really tasty) and tonight two medium baked potatoes, one with salsa and one with salt and butter.

So, not a great three days but also not a  :tfp:

Just like the ncaa tournament, survive and advancement.   Excellent use of the potato.

Did good today. Went to a birthday party. Passed on the chips and ice cream cake. Had only one slice of pizza. Only 1200 calories so far but feel like treating myself a little. Not sure if I should bother

Cauliflower crust pizza for dinner, wasn't that bad but not crispy enough for me.  Still have 500 calories to use on the day, not sure I will use them

I had a tough time getting my cauliflower dry enough and ended up not crispy either.  Also need to add spices to the cauliflower imo

What recipe did you use?

I used this one:  http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/valerie-bertinelli/cauliflower-crust-pizza.html

I squeezed it like it said, but then I heated it afterwards in th emicrowave for 2 minutes and then squeezed it again.  Seemed to help.

Also used 2 eggs.  It did not fall apart at all, maybe I should have made it thinner so it was crispier.  The bottom was nice and browned

Love it.  Wait, is Otis exempt b/c of his entertainment value?  I'd hate to see him knocked out after a week.
Let's wait a couple weeks.....on the 2nd day of vacation I just had an epic meltdown. I need a shot at redemption.

I'm beginning to think I should count calories - you guys and your "I've still got 1,276 calories left!!1!"
Just going by what mfp says as a guide.  It really helps, similar to the WW tracking I used to do.

Big lunch at a Mexican restaurant.  Ate nearly everything, drank some sangria.  Then drank a half bottle of red here at home tonight and ate every graham cracker in the house after eating most of the crackers and cheese.  I don't think I had dinner though, so there's that.

Seriously though, had a ricer cooker delivered today.  Considering trying the rice diet.

BECAUSE WITHOUT SHTICK DIETS I'M NOTHING

As has been said many times, it's very easy to out eat and out drink exercise.  Plus I'm really not fat, I just want to lose enough weight to get really lean and look fantastic before I hit 50.  Don't know why, just do.  Also the cardiovascular and other benefits of exercise go way beyond just fat loss.
If the studies over the last 10 years have shown anything it's that exercise is the closest thing to a medical panacea that humans have.

Ketchup is ok, so is mustard.

I generally make sauces and load them with vegetables and pulses (garbanzo and other beans, lentils etc)
Mustard is extremely low calorie and does lots of good stuff for you.  I heartily recommend the spicy mustard from French's.  Stuff is awesome.

This id a very eloquntargument toward rrsetting your palette with a bsseline of absolute blandness. If this reset results in an increased consumption of healthy food its avery worthy endeavor. How many meals/days to achieve?

I do question your assertion of additional calories from vinegar or mustard (mostly vinegar). If there is an imoact from those, I would think it would be due more to ph than calories.

No, he's right. Guys look a little more homosexually when working out on an elliptical machine.
Nope, at least your arms are getting a little bit of work and you don't have to wear gay bike shorts on the elliptical.  Spin bike > elliptical on the gay scale by at least a 2/1 margin.

Can't run these days so I both spin and do the eliptical. I feel much gayer on the eliptical.
I didn't want to say it b/c I know JD is getting close to 50 and he's probably not feeling as manly as he used to, but the elliptical is so very gay.   You look like one of those "men" speed walking in the park.

When you melt down you go full Chernobyl.

I am also doing some bulk fiber supplement  (generic Metamucil) 1-2x a day... just a couple of heaping teaspoons in water. Figure it will help me feel full and also keep the digestive track healthy and regular.

Though I must admit that I have only crapped 3 times since Monday. I am used to crapping up to 3 times a day, so this has been an unusual experience this whole week.

Good news from yesterday: played six softball games, had only like two beers, and definitely ate less than I normally do.

Bad news from yesterday: had two long breaks so sports bars were hit. Pizza, nachos, mozzarella sticks, and chips and guacamole were had at various points. Got back to my buddy's house after the tournament and our drunk wives had went nuts on this food service thing. Ordered various pastas from this Italian place and dessert. My wife, because she "loves", presented me with a piece of peanut butter cup cheesecake on my arrival.

Again, I limited myself way more than normal on the amount I had, but yesterday hurt.

Well, yeah, but it doesn't jack up your knees and it's much easier to watch HBO go on the iPad on an elliptical compared to a treadmill.

We're comparing ellipticals with spin bikes.   Maybe if you weren't playing so much softball, you could keep up.

Wait, you have a yorkie?   And you play a sport where you wear tight pants and stair at other dude's asses or is it just the outfielders that do that?
1.  No.

2.  Tight pants aren't the style anymore. And I'm now too out of shape to play the outfield. :bag:

Last night I made a big pot of veggie soup. Potatoes, green beans, squash, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, spinach, tomatoes, celery, and 1 can of kidney beans. Made enough to eat for lunch every day next week. And have roughly two family dinners worth left.

Nope, using the arm things do nothing but increase the gay-look. I keep my hands planted on the inner handles. My arms and shoulders are actually more toast after a 45 min spin than after any eliptical workout.
