He is not evil at all. He just wants to do his job and keep everyone alive. And by everyone I mean everyone. He is always trying to figure out a way to avoid any violence with anybody. Paying off the hillbillies out of his own money to try and keep the preacher and his wife alive, always trying to solve conflicts in a way that doesn't get anybody hurt.It seems like Marty’s threats are slowly taking care of each other. I just hope he’s the last man standing as, for me, he’s been less evil than just about anybody outside the kids and probably Ruth. But as much as I like Ruth, she doesn’t have the brains of Marty and is a hothead like most the rest of them.
I think he is a good guy that is good at laundering and he just wants to be left alone to do the job and not get anybody hurt. He knows there is plenty to go around for everyone (trying to talk the cartel out of going after the hillbillies because they don't really matter to the cartel). I think the only reason he wants out is because of the violence and risk to his family. If that risk wasn't there I think he would be fine with continuing to launder and just go about his business. Very level headed with an eye to solving problems to make everyone happy (without violence).
ETA: Also why he is so proud of Jonah joining the business and why he had no issues with explaining/teaching Jonah about what he does. He really enjoys the "business" part and figuring out ways to stay "clean".
