P90X - Anyone try this? (1 Viewer)

Enjoyed Shoulders and Arms last night  although Abripper still kicks my abs. Not looking forward to Yoga from what I hear, especially since I cant even walk right thanks to Plyo on Tuesday. Should be interesting...

I've started doing the stretch x routine. And just in case you were wondering, fat guys can't bend very well.
Man I'm as flexible as a friggin' 2x4.
I've only done stretch x once, but done the yoga every time for 4 weeks. When I started I couldn't touch the floor from a straight legs standing position (came about an inch or two from it). I'm now able to get my fingers down almost flat on the floor. But one thing that is absolutely not improving is that stupid frog thing. I also cant kick sideways in kenpo. I think I have the tightest groin in the world.

Maybe I'm the only one who grew to like yoga? I mean the first time I was able to make it through the warrior 3/standing splits thing was pretty cool. FWIW, I'll cut off that workout where the balance postures start if I'm tight on time, still a good workout though you don't benefit your balance as much. Noticed a big difference skiing after having done yoga.

Also good for golf.

Looking forward to see what Ab Ripper X has done for my golf game. My core is so much stronger now.

I think the yoga is good too. There was an article some time back about one of the senior tour guys (I want to say Eduardo Romero) who attributed his improved play at the time to yoga. The flexibility and core strength can really help.

How harsh is the ab ripper program on your back?
I definitely felt it in my back the first time I did it, but it wasn't that bad. I crushed vertebrae back in '01 and have no issues during ab ripper.

day 30 is today!

i was buying a t shirt today with my wife and always buy XL out of habbit. she urged me to try a L. decided, sure why not. It fit great!

loving this program

:lmao: I'm on day 25 today. Stretch X on the recovery week. I'm pretty sure I'm blowing this one off (considering yoga is tomorrow). Haven't missed any other days yet.

on the days where i have the option of stretch x or rest.....i'm about 50/50. i felt like i kinda mailed in my recovery week, but doing the chest shoulds and tris yesterday i felt great.

I guess this is the FF nerd coming out of me, but I felt like revisiting my rankings. I definitely think Kenpo is the easiest for me right now. I just finished week 2 Kenpo and was absolutely drenched. Cardio wise I felt like I was good to knock out a 5K, but my legs are pretty shot. The 1-2 punch of Legs/Back/Ab Ripper and then Kenpo are a good drain on the legs. I haven't felt this deep of a hamstring/glute soreness since my sprinter days in HS.

Hardest to Easiest for me after 2 weeks (very tempted to put yoga #1)...

Day 1 (chest, back, ab ripper x)

Day 4 (yoga)

Day 5 (legs, back, ab ripper x)

Day 3 (shoulders, arms, ab ripper x)

Day 2 (plyometrics)

Day 6 (kenpo)

What pullup bars are you guys using? Seems like there are a handful out there ranging from $25-&75. Any bad experiences?

Bad experience with the cheapo (golds gym) doorway bar from wal mart. Nothing major, just didn't feel like I could get a wide grip. So I just started using my bench press bar (put it on top of my power rack).

I've been using this with no issues so far.
Thanks. Looks like that one limits your widest grip to the width of the door frame. That doesn't feel to narrow for you?
No not at all. I don't feel the need to go super wide.
I went with the Iron Gym too, but got the Extreme which has some wider grips (it is $10 more than the original).

Did my first ever before work workout this am and I'm pretty sure I'll never do that again. I dont mind Sat 8:30 - 9:00 workouts but 5:30 sucks. I was not into the workout and now I'm dragging ###. :hophead:
Did my second core synergistic this evening. No freaking wonder I couldn't handle this that morning. That is one tough workout. :lmao:

Same here, I think the width is fine. YMMV. There is one problem though, which is that I'm still a big ##### and can't do many pullups.

OOOF

Day 1 week 3 and I bonked... HARD :X :X

I dry heaved twice doing the last set of dive bombers. I don't know what it was, but it had to be one of the following:

1 - Only got about 6hrs sleep. Our 3.5yr old decided he couldn't sleep at 530am. Listening to Little Bear, Blue's Clue's etc early Sat AM :lmao:

2 - I started the workout much earlier in the day since we're taking the kids to the zoo. I only had 1 meal in me vs 2 + 1 snack.

3 - I had a crappy dinner last night - pancakes. :bag:

Nah I drink a ton of water. Probably am overdoing it. If there is such a thing.

Yeah, I was going to ask you guys what time of day you work out. I usually hear that working out in the morning is best - gets your metabolism up for the rest of the day, etc. So I was thinking I'd try to workout around 6 a.m. so that I could actually spend some time with the wife when I get home from work around 6 p.m.

If I workout after I get home, I figure I would be eating dinner around 6:30, working out from 7-8:30, then by the time I shower, it would be 9:00 already.

But after reading some of your comments here, it sounds like mornings aren't that easy. When do you guys work out?

I think it's all personal preference. If 6am works for you and isn't a drag, I think that'd be more ideal. Just do what works best for you without impacting the family too much.I typically am working out right after I get off work (I work from home), which is 4-430ish.

Anyone experiencing any bruising? I have a nasty bruise on the side of my left bicep. Big enough to know that I didn't do something stupid and forgot. Is it normal to have some bruising when working out this much?

I'm working out at night after we get the kids to bed. I couldn't handle getting up at 5am to workout. I get home from work around 6, eat dinner and get the kids ready for bed, read a couple books, and I'm usually downstairs by 9pm, done and showered by 10:30. Gone are the days of getting the kids to bed, grabbing a snack and sitting on the couch watching tv until bedtime. If you do decide to workout at night, I would highly recommend not working out for at least an hour after dinner. I'm waiting a good 1-2 hours and I still sometimes feel the food bouncing around in my stomach, especially on the cardio days like plyo.

Nope, can't say I've noticed any bruising. Granted my entire body feels like it should be black and blue, but I dont actually see any bruising.Week 1 in the books for me, I'd rank the week 1 workouts as followsShoulders & ArmsChest & BackLegs & BackKenpoAb Ripper..Plyometrics......Yoga - although I am a big fan of the Shavasana (Corpse Pose)

I watched the infomercial for this while at the gym the other day. I'm thinking I'm not quite in good enough shape right now to get the most out of it, but I'll look to try it later in the spring.

Ok, I bought the dvds and now need the equipment. What do I need? I am around 250ish, so any help would be great.

-Pullup bar (what is the weight limit?)

-Dumbbells (I am think 15-20 lb ones for someone who has never lifted a weight)

-Resistance bands (are there different kinds?)

-Is that it?

I had to doublecheck the weight limit for the pullup bar too. :unsure:It's three hundy, baby. :goodposting:

May want to also grab a pair of 5lb dumbbells (shoulder exercises) and a 40 or 50 (one should be fine here, I'm thinking for the lawnmowers). But you wont need the resistance bands.Get a yoga mat. It really helps.

 Definitely need to get some lighter weights for the shoulder exercises. I have from 10-40 in 5lb increments.
