P90X - Anyone try this? (9 Viewers)

Anyone have the ab ripper x log sheet not in excel or can point me to a link. I found all the other papers online but couldn't find this one. I don't have excel so all the stuff I find won't open.

This really sucks with a hangover. The strain of the last few pushups makes my head feel like it's going to explode. And yes, it's almost 8pm and I'm still hungover. :deadhorse:

Week 2

I have noticed that I can actually bend over and pick something off the ground without looking like my grandma. I guess that's a start.

Day 1 - Chest & Back continues to destroy me. Thankfully this is in private, because this would be the equivalent of losing in arm wrestling to a Girl Scout on the humility scale. I did pace myself so I actually managed some pushups throughout every set, but didn't feel any stronger than last week. Hopefully this will treat me better later on. Pullups are a pipe dream at this point. I get up maybe 3/4, then 1/4, then hang there, then use the chair to get a couple of reps in. My gelatinous blob of sweat that is Ab Ripper X is marginally taking form, although my lower back starts to give out on some of those balancing ones. I actually did the pulse up on the 1 situp that I did this time.

Day 2 - Only felt relatively comfortable muscle soreness today rather than the straight up pain of last week. Tweaked my knee a bit during plyo and had to break down to the girly mode. Every article of clothing is absolutely filthy after this workout. Abs are constantly letting me know they exist.

Day 3 - Body is definitely getting adjusted to being brutalized on a daily basis. Only have the good afterburn instead of the 'what was I thinking' feeling from last week. Did my first wide leg situp, and manage 5 of the pulseups in Abripper. Seeing a marked improvement there after being barely able to get my shoulders off the ground last week.

Day 4 - Yoga. Meh. Sweat, fall over, repeat.

Day 5 - First day where I just didn't have any gas in the tank. Cut off a lot of the stuff short. Another knee tweak during the sneaky lunges didn't help. Pullups are still something beyond my realm of understanding.

Day 6 - Amazing how difficult it is to squeeze an hour in on a Saturday. Got asked if I was losing weight by a friend, which was cool. Too bad she had put on about 35 pounds since I last saw her.

Can someone point me towards the workout log for Ab Ripper X? I have already found the 5 main workout log sheets but can't find the Ab Ripper ones.

Here is my logCheck one:__ Survived__ Not so muchActually I think you just write down how many total reps you got in.

:kicksrock: I made myself a log on a sheet of white paper after I posted and gave up on looking for a list. It read:__ Dead __ Not DeadEdit- Just did it and when you had to switch to the other side on the oblique side/leg up things I literally got stuck. My shirt stuck to my mat and I pictured a whale being beached in my head. Luckily no one was around or they would have died laughing. I probably got 50-70% on all the moves for my first time through except the rocking ones where I just couldn't get the proper form down and on the last set I got the entire thing minus the extras. The pull ups killed me and I know I am going to feel it tomorrow even though I had a chair their for me the entire time. Push ups I did quite well surprisingly because Insanity has caused me to gain strength there. Except the damn diamond push ups just destroyed into a face say hello to the carpet type of way.

People ask about life after P90X….what sort of workouts? Do Insanity? Do portions of each? I figured I could give some insight on a personal level.

I finished round 1 (all 90 days) with what I thought were great results. I planned on taking a week off then jumping back into it with round 2. [Here’s where I make some excuses. I strained my neck and missed a few days. Had a long vacation weekend when I missed a few days. Then the long 4th of july weekend I missed a few days]. I basically took 5 weeks off. I started again July 12 and I’m just finishing week 4.

So after taking 5 weeks off, here are some results of my second time doing P90X end of Phase 1.

Chest and back: My week 3 of round 2 numbers are already surpassing the end of round 1 numbers. I finished round 1 doing 74 pullups…I did 74 now during week 3. I finished round 1 doing 340 pushups…I did 343 now during week 3.

Shoulders and arms: My week 2 numbers are already surpassing the end of round 1 on shoulders and biceps. It took me until week 3 to surpass on triceps

Legs and back: My week 3 results are the same as where I was on week 6 of round 1. My pullups after week 3 are the same as where I was on week 10 of round 1.

So in general, I lost a little bit during my 5 weeks off, but it seems to be coming back quickly. In fact, in some cases, I’m already beyond where I ended up round 1 last time. By the end of this round, I’ll be much stronger than I was after the first time doing P90X. Oh, and this time, I’m doing it without creatine. Still taking protein and still keeping the same general nutrition routine as I did the first time…just cut out creatine. I’m no more or less sore after the workouts. My weight has stayed the same, but I’m not trying to lose any. I’m eating max calories a day. Those looking for something to do after P90X…take a week or two (or 5 in my case) and do it again.

Thinking back to last night. I wish Tony would do a little more talking about the actual moves instead of himself or random crap. Its more of the lets do this move, go! Where as in Insanity the guy does 2-5 of each move real quick for a short demo so you can see wtf you are supposed to be doing instead of watching while they are doing the moves as the timer goes down. It kind of baffled me how you get 10% as much instructions, but he talks a way more. His schict is the worse. Its a good workout, and I'll be doing the program, its just I can really see why they have that mute with clues selections after the first workout.

I can agree and disagree with your point. The first time doing each workout, I wished he'd do more instruction. But after doing each one once or twice, I don't need any instruction. I know how to do V-up Rollups....and I still have to sit thru the instruction. I know how to do back flys, yet still have to sit thru instruction. I'm now glad that with most of the stuff it's "do this move, now go!"

Cool. Right now this is what I'm leaning toward also.Take a break (maybe pop in a disc once in awhile if I feel like it) and then start over. Maybe replace Kenpo with biking or something. My last day should be Aug 21, though I've been a little more lax about missing a day here or there lately. Tonight for example is supposed to be Kenpo, but it's also poker night. I won't get off work in time to squeeze in the workout before poker, so I'll just do it tomorrow instead. Actually now that I think about it, maybe I'll just skip it and make today my day off... starting W12 tomorrow. Hmmm...I've also skipped Yoga the past three times. :goodposting: I may completely eliminate it for round 2. I know there's a benefit to doing it, but working out indoors 6 nights a week gets a little old. Yoga is the easiest to drop without feeling like too much of a slacker.

I haven't done yoga yet this entire round. I replace it with either Cardio X or Core.

Yeah, in the beginning I was using the back button on the remote quite a bit to figure out what to do. I still do sometimes if I'm a little unsure about the form on an exercise I haven't done in a few weeks.I don't mind it at all on the Ab Ripper, since it gives me a chance to catch up if I took a little break. On Kenpo I no longer start at their frequent slow pace, which helps make it a little harder.

I can see that but from my experience with Insanity, the instructor gets down to business on a quick constant pace. Basically the time Tony is bull ####ting, Shaun is showing you the moves and you are into it before Tony finishes his I'm awesome speech.

true. I've heard that Insanity is go-go-go. Whereas Tony talks a bit which gives time for mini-breaks. On the lifting days...those little mini-breaks are important.

Also if the mini-breaks make the workout not intense enough there is nothing stopping one from starting the next move while Tony is talking. It's a nice option.

What kind of results did you see after completing P90X? I just started my first day today. Prior to this (4 weeks ago) I completed Insanity and saw awesome results and only loosely followed a healthy diet after 2 weeks into the program. I dont have specific measurements but I am able to fit into jeans that I have not been able to fit into in a very long time. The definition in my arms and abs started to show a little bit. Perhaps the most dramatic result is the annual fitness test I have to take for work, after completing the test I scored higher than any other time in the past 8 years (will be 30 this year).

What you can't do the excercise while he's talking? You know you don't have to stop when he walks around checking up on the other people. It really shouldn't take you longer then a couple reps to learn what each move is either. If it does, I'm sorry for you.

I think you completely missed his point, Ace.

Day 1 for you!...nice work to even get started. keep pushing play, eat decent and the results will come....you know all that though by completing Insanity. Cardiovascularity-wise, p90x will seem easier than Insanity, but I love the weight lifting days with P90X! On the top of page 24, Ned and i both summarize our results. It's shows what a couple of average joes can accomplish.good luck and have fun with p90x!

So my brother (he's 23, I'm 31) decided he's getting fat and wanted to do P90x. I'm using P90x as part of the Higdon half marathon program (it calls for strength training 2x week) so we both did Chest/Back/Ab ripper today.

First - Watching my brother struggle through it reminded me of my first day. I admitted to him it felt pretty good having someone else go through what I went through back in February. He gutted it out from start to finish. There was a classic part when we hit the reverse bicycles in ab ripper. After about the 5th one or so he falls over to his side and starts rolling around on the floor and shreeks like a little girl "OMG IT HURTS SO MUCHHHHHHHH". I nearly pissed my pants in laughter. :lmao:

On my side, my pushups #s actually went up (thanks to Insanity, no doubt). My pullups went down a bit and my ab ripper went down a decent amount. From 350s to 282. Ugh, I need to make Ab Ripper a staple no matter what I do. That thing is so

Week 3

Day 1 - Increased my pushup reps by a couple per set this week. Arms gave out during the 2nd set of declines. I just fell to the floor and had nothing in the tank. Dive-bombers are starting to be fun after doing 0 the first week. Pullups are not quite there yet. I may have been able to mark 1 down for standard, but it wasn't pretty and I couldn't repeat it the 2nd set. Boozed it up a little this weekend and Ab Ripper punished me for it. I was kind of excited that I wasn't going to see this workout until week 9, but after seeing the crap that's on the worksheet for weeks 5-8, I have a feeling I'll be missing this one.

Day 2 - Sore again from upping the weights yesterday, still nowhere near the system shock of week 1. Holy crap, plyo kicked the crap out of me today. I had to pause it and change clothes in the middle. I'm certainly hoping it's because I'm actually doing the exercises the correct way and not because I'm regressing. Could also be from the A/C just kicking on when I started. I just know I'm beat.

Day 3 - Roamed the outfield in softball for a doubleheader in 90+ weather, both temp and humidity. Shirt weighed about 10 pounds after I was done. Skipped the workout.

Day 4 - Did the shoulders and arms a day later. Pushed up the weights for a bunch of stuff, although it's still nowhere near where I want to be. But I'm pushing it. Slowly the things that are 'body weight resistance' like the side tri rises are turning from laughable to doable. From a grand total of 2 week 1, now doing sets of 10 each side. :flex: Lower back is still limiting me in Ab Ripper, but I am now officially doing actual situps for both the wide legs and pulse up variety instead of some freakish crunch looking thing. I hate it...but I love it. Contemplating skipping the yoga and going back to the legs and back tomorrow.

Day 5 - Was not ready for legs and back so tried Yoga. I'm at the point where I'd rather do all the other routines for the week the same day than this pile of crap. Every time I find myself doing less of it. He says to free your mind of what happened before and what you have going on after. You know where that leaves me? Hell. Thanks Tony.

Day 6 - This week continues to wreck me. Legs and Back today, pushing Kenpo to my 'rest' day. I figured it would be the cardio days that got to me, but it is all of them. Plugged away to finish the whole workout. Notched my first '1' for reverse grip chinups, overhands are still goose-eggs. It's been well over 10 years since I wrecked my lower back, and Ab ripper really reminds me of it. Still running maybe 50% there. Rockin' the situp portions now. I'm pretty impressed.

Day 7 - Kenpo is fun. Made it through the first 3 weeks. Hooray!

Nice work. I liked Phase II the best. I still think Chest/Back is the hardest workout.Back/Bi is downright awesome. If there is such a thing.

I just started tonight...day 1. Pretty much like all the others...couldn't do very many reps of any of the push ups/pull ups, but the ab ripper was the worst...a couple of those moves I couldn't even do. It's gonna be a long 89 days.

After about the 5th one or so he falls over to his side and starts rolling around on the floor and shreeks like a little girl "OMG IT HURTS SO MUCHHHHHHHH".
 I'm glad that is not uncommon
He was doing a really good job of gutting it out up to that point. The sheer pitch of his voice and the near randomness of it had me in stitches. 2 days later and I still  when I think about it.The inside of my elbows and my lats are still sore. It's like it was my first time all over again.

 Still going strong here. Loving my 4 day a week routine. My bench press is rapidly increasing since I replaced pushups with bench press & flys (also doing chest 2x/week).

Yesterday morning I did Ab Ripper on its own. Wow, does that make it easier. Knocked out 380. :lmao:

I started the first move while Tony was still talking, which got me ahead enough to do 30 of each of the first 5 moves. They caught up at Fifer Scissors. I just stayed with them until Leg Climbs, where I added an extra 3 to each side. Then 10 more Mason Twists at the end.

I doubt I'll have the energy to make that a normal thing though. Only two resistance days left anyway...

I'm quite doughy. I'm going to jump in the kiddie pool with the Power 90 first. Ordered it a few days ago, haven't received it. I need a mission. Getting in shape is it. You know its bad when you are too winded to continue screwing and you need a little breather. Unacceptable.

Thinking abouut it. Haven't done much of anything but running a few days per week since I finished Insanity. If I can actually stop procrastinating long enough to buy the weights, I probably will. Friend said I could probably get away with 2-3 sets of varying weights. True?I have a pull up bar already. What else do I need?
It totally depends on what you can already lift. I needed a wide range a weights since some of the shoulder exercises I could only do 5lbs at first. I have a set of 10-45lbs (I used just a 5lb plate for the 5lb exercises). I recently got the select techs thanks to Random. Are you anywhere near the Philly/Delaware area? I'm thinking about selling my dumbbells/rack now that I have the select techs. You can have'em cheap if you're close enough to come get them.ETA: Since you already have the pullup bar, the only other thing I'd suggest is a yoga mat.

I'm in Week 5 now. I too replaced 2 of the pushup moves with flat bench moves. I benched instead of the Slow Motion 3-and-1 pushups and the two twitch speed pushups. My chest feels soreness in a way they haven't felt in a while. I'm still going to follow the 6 day schedule, etc....just do bench instead of pushups.

I don't have time in the morning to do Ab Ripper after the resistance workouts, so I generally do them when I get home from work. Occassionally, if I have a day off work or something I'll do Ab Ripper right after the workout. Yeah, it makes a huge difference. I like splitting...I get more out of Ab Ripper when I've had all day to recover from the morning resistance workout.

Totally agree here.

What do you need for this program other than a mat?
Pull-up bar and dumbbells (or resistance bands). Yoga block and push-up bars are optional.
What kind of range on the dumbbells? Do you do one weight consistently only needing one or two different weights or do you use them for a wide range of work and need a major investment in them?Just trying to gauge whether I want to get into this or not. I go to the gym 5 days a week now and have a pretty good workout going just looking for something different and would like to get toned up some. Not real interested in lifting a lot of weights.
