PA Diaper Sniper Captured (1 Viewer)

Weird that the story has seemed to fallen off of CNN's main page. Guess they didn't have room for this story, Reporter: 'F*** it, I quit' and Mark Zuckerberg annoys neighbors.

One of them had to go.

I don't honestly think this was huge news nationally. We just got it more because of the relative proximity to us...Now if the guy goes on a Christopher Dorner-esque rampage, maybe...

ABC World News has it on every night as there second or third story. I think a guy sniping cops is going to be national news. Even if he only has shot two of them so far.

I stand corrected then. I guess I need to get my news from somewhere other than Yahoo! :kicksrock:

I see no problem with that. The guy is targeting cops. I'm glad they are being protected.
why do they even have that?
Holy crap...

I feel like you only use that when you know where he is and know he's dug in. It's not like you're just going to stumble on him in that...
I'm sure that's the point. I don't think they're using that thing to sneak around the woods looking for him.

But imagine if they did and he didn't see it coming until it was right on top of him...

I picture the scene in Austin Powers where the guy gets run over by the steam roller.

Will the ****Official**** Updates thread be updated appropriately when dude is caught (killed)?

The PA State Police own it. I assume they wanted a vehicle that could be used in SWAT situations, but it needed to be able to be used in the mountains as well as normal places.
I've been puttering around on the ring power website...I have to admit, this thing has some compelling uses for officers. I think it'd be a pretty cool tool if there was a way to deploy it faster to crisis situations.

but that's a much better visual, IMO

like trolling around forest looking for some dude?

I wonder if it has a "tip-toe" feature?

They may be using this thing as an observation post. The platform mounted on the front is armored and can be used a watch tower.

Truthfully, no...not at all. I think it's horrible for this use, again, unless they basically know "He's over there, under that rock, and he's got guns everywhere."

But I could see it being very useful in armed stand-offs.

Grappling Claw Attachment...

OK...I want one of these things now. I'll use it to drive to work and just throw cars out of the way.

I love the picture of the guy riding with the car smashed in it's grips.
"The Grapple Claw and bucket is very intrusive and can be utilized to gain access to attics where suspects might be trying to hide or seek protection from ground level exposure."
I bet these guys LOVE using this thing.

"Sarge...he might be in the attic. Can I get The Rook and rip the whole side of the house down to check? Please? Pleasepleasepleaseplease!"

I agree. That's the most likely use in this situation...I have to say that I'm impressed if this guy is still hiding. Given the FLIR equipped Helicopters, he's got to be dug into the ground or something. I feel like with those FLIR units, you can't really escape these days.

With the leaves still on the trees, FLIR would have a tough time seeing anything on the ground.

Bivens asks anyone who knows of a shelter or hideout that Frein used in the past to call police. He said anyone with vacation or rental homes in the search area should also call police to help them identify if anything is out of place.

They have obtained some search warrants for properties in the search area. They've brought in locksmiths to enter those properties without causing damage.
I guess "locksmith" is the PA trooper code name for a Rook w/ a Grappling claw...noted.

I feel like this thing is heating up. What are the odds they bring this guy in alive? I can't see a situation where he's taken alive. He killed a cop in cold blood. I feel like LE will have a really happy trigger finger.

sounds to me like dude is making a game out of his suicide...

I thought that stuff could see through thinner stuff. Wasn't that how they located Tzarnaev in Boston? He was under a boat cover or something and they saw him with the FLIR.

The LA school district just revealed that they own a tank and grenade launchers. Not the LAPD, the freaking LA school district. With a tank. And grenade launchers.
Reminds me of the "Budget Surplus" episode of the office. It was either that or new chairs for all the teachers...

I think it can see through thinner stuff like that, to an extent. But I think thick foliage would be enough to block a heat signature. I don't know for sure. Just going off of what I've seen on those John Bunnell World's Scariest Police Chase shows.

I don't want to get into this argument again, especially in this thread, but people use the term "tank" when it's not anything like a tank. And grenade launchers are used to launch tear gas.

which the LA teachers manned with them call "silly gas"

Pretty sure it's the school police that have it.

Given that you know the name of the guy who narrates those shows, you've clearly watched more episodes than me, so I'll concede there.

Come to think of it, that would explan why they never find Bigfoot when they're using those on Finding Bigfoot...damn foliage!

I only know his name because he was the original COPS guy. But, yes, I do watch a lot of those stupid shows. :bag:

If you don't watch Alaska State Troopers, you're missing out. It's like Cops meets Sarah Palin.

Fact: Apparently it's completely legal to discharge a shotgun in a subdivision in Alaska, as long as you're not trying to kill someone...but for any other legit reason, go for it.

I actually don't watch that. Mainly because as I've gotten older, I no longer want to see bad things. Too depressing. That's why I watch reality TV. Very light hearted. I still watch COPS, but only because it's the original. Other than that, no more cop shows.

Strange to me that there seems to be less support for this guy who actually went after cops (tree of liberty must be watered, blah, blah, blah) than for Dorner, who killed two civilians who were only tangentially related to his problems with the police department. Is that because Dorner was previously a cop? Because of the difference in race? Because Dorner was a better looking fella?

Sure seems like overkill to me:

People supported Dorner? I don't remember that.
