Pac 10 Question (1 Viewer)

Put it another way, lets say ASU is an absolute football powerhouse, a real rival of USC. Leinart would likely not be welcomed to Phoneix with open arms, hope that helps.
Yeah, much in the same way Detroiters hated Chris Spielman.

The conference of champions schools band together as they share their inferiority complex.

Three of the last 4 Heisman TrophiesTwo of the last three National Championships

We are feeling very inferior out west....man I wish I was living in Jersey.

It's easy to win the NC game when you only have to play one real game a year (the NC game itself). One of the year's USC "won" it they played against 2 games against teams that finished ranked and 1 game against teams that finished in the top 5. I can't speak for the other schools because I don't feel like going back and looking it up right now, but when UF won it in '96 they played 7 games against ranked teams and 3 games against top 5 teams. It took USC 3 years to face that many ranked teams.

I think it's ridiculous to hold a grudge against an NFL player because of what he did in college.

Maybe you guys out West can help me on this one.

Much was made of Leinart going to a "Pac 10 city" and how it was a good thing. He'd have a fan base and be well received yada yada.

Was this just talking head stuff or is there anything to that?

I know in the SEC, that wouldn't be any plus at all. In fact, a guy like Jevon Kearse (awesome at Florida) actually had a lot of negatives coming to Nashville.  UT fans in Nashville hate Florida. The better the player the worse it is.

Is it different out West? Certainly Leinart doesn't suffer from any name recognition no matter where he'd play. He's one of the most recognizable guys in the league today. It's not like people in Phoenix have heard of him but people in Detroit haven't.

Anything to that?

Hey Joe, My theory basically goes, ASU fans (AZ guys) are jeallous of Matt Leinarts success (and USCs in general). They get an up close and personal look at it every year. They are likely happy now that he will be helping them rather then hurting them.

Florida vs UT are not likely to support each others players in the profootball environment as UT fans are not jeallous of Floridas success (or Kearse's success). Funny you should mention it Joe, but when I lived in Nashville, the Vandy people I knew and still know all very much liked Kearse but the UTs weren't all in support.

I'm an ASU alumni. Truth be told, even if we were a football factory like USC, I think the majority of ASU supporters would still cheer on Leinart if he could help the Cardinals. Everybody in this town would like to see the Cards do well, unless you are a Bidwill family hater (and there are lots of those). It is good for the community. And I think we're all tired of being the butt end of jokes about our semi-pro football team. With that said, I'm moving out-of-state and I will have to observe all this from afar. I don't have alot of confidence in the turn around. Many of us have seen this kind of optimism before (many times before). I believe the entire fan base is taking a wait-and-see attitude about the whole thing. :tumbleweed:
