Pacman Jones is now...... Adam Jones (1 Viewer)

As well it should be.

As I've been covering him, I had started using Adam Jones as it was with very little if any mention of "Pacman."

A good decision on Adam's part, and I couldn't agree more.

If the guy wants to make an effort to break off from his past and turn over a new leaf, I'm behind this all the way.

You have to start someplace. I think his head is in the right place.

The name "Pacman" wasn't his idea in the first place. It came from his mother who spent so much time playing the tabletop version of the Pacman video game (at home) while she was pregnant with him. "Gee, thanks Mom."

His first name isn't even Adam, its BERNARD!

http://www.theclevelandfan.com/article_det...311&ref=STO

... Bernard (Adam) ‘PacMan' Jones should not be allowed to rejoin his team for the opening week of the NFL season because its not fair to the fans of the National Football League.

Roger Goodell, PacMan Jones deserves his chance but not on opening week. Give PacMan his chance after the opener when he won‘t be taking away headlines from more deserving players ...

... a laundry list of incidents that began before PacMan started his NFL career when he was sentenced to a year for a bar fight while in college. The sentence was suspended and PacMan was placed on probation. Maybe if the judge was harder at that time instead of giving special treatment Jones would have gotten a different message and wouldn't have put himself and his actions above the law. Here is what happened after Jones was let off from that first incident:

- July 13, 2005 Jones arrested on charges of assault and felony vandalism.

- September 5, 2005 refused to pay for valet parking got into verbal altercation.

- October 2005 State of Virginia extended probation because Jones did not engage his probation officer from July arrest.

- March 23, 2006 marijuana possession. Later claimed he knew how to beat the NFL drug test.

- August 25, 2006 arrested in Tennessee for disorderly conduct and public intoxication claiming a woman had stolen his wallet and shouting profanities at the woman. Judge granted probation.

- October 26, 2006 cited for misdemeanor assault for allegedly spitting into the face of a woman.

- February felony and misdemeanor obstruction of justice charges from his residence.

- February 19, 2007 Two felony charges from a Vegas strip club shooting incident that left one man paralyzed. Jones allegedly threw money into the air ‘making it rain' and then became enraged when one dancer began to collect the money ‘allegedly' slamming her head onto the stage causing a ruckus with security where Jones 'allegedly' threatened the life of one of the security guards. The scuffle proceeded outside where a person in Jones' entourage fired into a crowd and hit three people. Security guard and former professional wrestler Tommy Urbanski was left paralyzed. Jones claimed he did not know the shooter but later this was challenged. Jones faced charges of felony coercion and misdemeanor count of threat to life with the battery charge.

- June 18, 2007 questioned in an Atlanta strip club shooting involving members of his entourage, not charged.

- May 7, 2007 12:45 a.m. clocked at 79 mph in 55 mph zone. Car had been involved in a drub bust and was not registered to Jones who claimed he was loaned the vehicle. Police were to investigate the story.

- September 13, 2007 Jones copped a plea over the Vegas incident and was given a suspended sentence.

- April documents revealed Jones paid extortion money to the sum of $15,000 after the Vegas incident.

In April of 2007 Goodell handed down a suspension to Jones for conduct. This was the first suspension in the league that did not involve substance abuse in 44 years. The last suspension was given for gambling. The gambling allegations have not been proven. The substance, marijuana, allegations have never been proven. Either of which would be violations on top of everything that PacMan Jones has already done.

- January 3, 2008 allegation of punching a woman in the face striking her left eye at another strip club incident in Altlanta. Wanda Jackson was going to press charges but withdrew her statement on January 16.

What if the media tracks down former Jones accomplice, drug dealer Darryl Moore, and furnishes the media with the wire taps that Moore claims he had on phone in conversations with Jones where Moore claims that PacMan bet on college football games and talked about smoking pot. "You know, I was talkin' to him the other day about smokin', and he was like 'man, if I didn't smoke I couldn't take all the stress that I'm dealing with right now,'" Moore said.

Roger Goodell, if you wish to send a message you have many options. You can send a message to a powerful owner who seems to be publicly twisting your arm trying to force you to reinstate PacMan Jones. You can send it to DT Tank Williams who seems to find the entire PacMan Jones scenario amusing. You can send it to the Players Association who seem to want players to not be held accountable for actions that might reflect on the league as they have fought adherence to the strict enforcement of conduct policies that you have sought to put in place. You can send a message to the many players who follow the rules of society and don't act like criminals that they will be placed in the spotlight on opening week. You can send a message directly to PacMan Jones and tell him, not on opening week PacMan, no, you don‘t get to come back that week. Or you can tell the fans they won't have to face the injustice of having a thug steal one headline from opening week.

PacMan Jones will be face the NFL will put on opening week if he is allowed to come back in the opener. Rodger Goodell only you can keep PacMan out of opening day festivities. Give him his chance but don't allow him to take away from opening week when the game should be celebrated by families.
Yeah good luck Bernie, NOT!

Whatever it takes to get his head on straight, I'm fine with. For discussion only- I disagree with the caveat that I don't know his mother. Assuming she's like most mother's, this guy needs to follow more of the values mom instilled in him and that nickname may just be a reminder of her.

Whatever you want to call him the Cowboys getting a top flight cover CB and second best return man in the game for the price of a second day draft pick might end up being comparable to the Patriots theft of Randy Moss.

I think it's a good sign from him. Move on from the past and start making that dough in the upcoming years and redone contracts he's gonna ask for next year.

However, did anyone else read the story that the gal that he was with that infamous night at the strip club got pushed off of a building and plumetted to her death?

Hmmmm. Seems fishy. Get rid of any witnesses and change my persona...

To Be Continued.

you mean this one.....Per roto:

Sadia Morrison, the woman who was with Adam Jones during the infamous 2007 strip club incident has been found dead in New York.

She was reportedly thrown off a building. This incident doesn't appear to be related to the trial of the man who is charged with shooting the bouncer that night, and thus doesn't seem to involve Pacman

I'm sure the Titans are thrilled with the new leaf he's turning over. :goodposting:

I love a good comeback story. Cris Carter comes to mind, putting drug abuse behind him to have a Hall of Fame career. But I don't see Pacman as a "learned from his mistakes" type of guy. He's Lawrence Phillips... a bad dude, plain and simple. Just a matter of time before he's behind bars and out of chances. I honestly hope I'm wrong. A few more strip club bouncers would go home from work without having been shot.

she wasn't a witness and the DA and her brother don't think it's relatedhttp://www.lvrj.com/news/20557774.html

District Attorney David Roger said Wednesday that Morrison's death is not going to affect Edwards' case. He said Morrison was inside the club at the time of the shooting and was not a witness to it.

Morrison's 25-year-old brother, Paul Morrison, said he did not think her death is connected with the Minxx shooting.

I don't understand why you didn't call him by his nickname when it WAS his nickname. It's not like Pacman is negative on its own.I understand that he's trying to leave behind anything associated with his past or make it seem so. So are you calling him Scot or Michael instead of Adam? His mother probably gave him the name Adam as well as the nickname Pacman.I'm all for doing whatever the player wants. If he wants to change from Pacman, that's fine and I hope that makes a difference for him. I just don't understand why you didn't use Pacman or used it very little before this.Do you just not use nicknames, like Lt2 or oucho Cinco? Did you call D. Johnson, Moose?

The odds are against anyone down that path. It's harder for us to "change" our ways than it is to keep doing the things we do wrong over and over. Why do people who are overweight still eat ice creams or french fries when they know they shouldn't. Why do people not go to work when they know they need some money. The truth is at least for me is I don't know Adam Pacman Jones on a personal level so I can't make a claim like you have that says that you "don't see Pacman as a learned from his mistakes type guy." I don't really know how you can say that unless you actually know the guy, maybe you do, but I doubt it.Odds are with your statement though just because of what I said above, it is rare to change.....to really change even when we know it's for our own good.

I rarely agree with a thing you say and it's now comical to me how I see you in many Cowboy threads with your negative tone but I completely agree with this point. The name Pacman is not the problem and it's almost an insult to everyone elses intelligence that we're all supposed to think that him changing his name means anything at all in terms of who he is today. The bottom line is his behavior and actions is going to be looked at, not what his name is. I almost take changing your name around now is a sign that you haven't changed because it's just an attempt at snowballing people into thinking your someone else and you're not.

This has only been since he became a Cowboy.

I wouldn't be too hard on the guy since it is obviously Prime Time's idea. I do happen to agree with Deon in that, in the world of mass media, perception is reality most of the time. If Jones can stay clean and can lose Pacman his transgressions will be forgotten quicker than if he kept the nickname. On a less cynical note I also think names have great power. Losing the nickname could very well be his way of cutting ties with his past weakness.

I can say that because I know how to read. List of incidents AFTER being drafted by the Titans; this doesn't even include the trouble he got in at West Virginia:

July 13, 2005: Two weeks before training camp is scheduled to begin, Jones is arrested by Nashville police at Titans headquarters. He is charged with assault and felony vandalism stemming from a nightclub altercation.

Sept. 5, 2005: Six days before the season opener at Pittsburgh, Jones attends the annual Nashville Sports Council Kickoff Luncheon. Later, Jones has a loud, verbal tantrum when told he must wait in line for his vehicle, according to witnesses. He does not pay for valet service.

Oct. 25, 2005: Five days before the eighth game of the season, it is alleged by the state of West Virginia that Jones has violated the terms of his probation, going back to a suspended sentence after a barroom brawl during his freshman year at college. A judge extends his probation 90 days.

Feb. 6, 2006: Jones is arrested in Fayetteville, Ga., and charged with possession of marijuana. He is handcuffed after throwing a punch at an officer, according to police, and charged with a felony count of obstruction and two misdemeanors of obstructing police. The drug charge is dismissed in January 2007, although his mother Deborah and a friend, Marcus Bowens, are convicted of possession of marijuana. Jones will appear in court later this month to face the obstruction charges.

March 23, 2006: A Fayette County drug task force SWAT team serves a search warrant at the Georgia home Jones bought for his mother. When Jones steps out of his Corvette, a drug investigator notices that the car reeks of marijuana. Jones admits to police he has been smoking and that it will be several weeks before he is able to pass a drug test.

April 18, 2006: According to Nashville police, who cite surveillance camera footage, Jones is one of 12 people gathered at a gas station when a fight breaks out and gunshots are fired.

Aug. 25, 2006: Jones is arrested in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for disorderly conduct and public intoxication. At the Sweetwater Saloon, he is accused of assault by Toya Garth, who says Jones spit in her face and she spit back. A judge sentences Jones six months probation provided he stays out of further trouble.

Oct. 26, 2006: Jones is cited for misdemeanor assault at Club Mystic, a Nashville nightclub, where he allegedly spits in the face of a female college student. He is suspended for one game by the Titans, on Nov. 5 at Jacksonville.

Feb. 19, 2007: Jones is present when an early morning brawl breaks out at Minxx Gentlemen's Club in Las Vegas. Three people are shot. Club co-owner Robert Susnar claims the shooter -- still at large -- acted on Jones' behalf. Jones denies this. No charges have been brought against Jones.
Look, I get it. You're a Dallas fan and you want to hope for the best. Jeff Fisher hoped for the best, too. This is what he said after Jones was drafted:

"We do not feel like character is an issue here," said Titans head coach Jeff Fisher at the time. "We think he's exceptional from that standpoint."
I don't mean to be negative. I'm just a "fool me once, fool me fourteen times" kinda guy. :(

I don't think you're fully getting what I'm saying. Sure, I'm a Cowboys fan and I hope this works out as well as anything else Dallas is trying.

With that said, I don't have a blind eye here. What I'm saying is that nobody (I don't think) personally knows this guy. He may or may not change and you can add probably close to 100 other NFL players to the list who probably should change some character issues.

What I'm saying is it's hard. Human nature isn't to change over night, it takes hard work. Since it's hard, odds are that he won't change. I mentioned in another post that I think it's basically a joke he's changing his name, because that's not the type of change that is neccessary. For me, him even thinking about doing that kind of stuff actually shows me his mind probably isn't in the right place. Who cares about what his name is.....that means nothing. I don't care of it's Pacman, Ms. Pacman, Galaga, Centepede or Space Invaders, it doesn't matter. He needs to change from within and as mentioned it's difficult to do and odds are it isn't going to happen, although it's possible.

A turd is always a turd......and Mr. Jones.....is a TURD!!!!!
Actually the saying is "You can't polish a turd." A turd can become fertilizer and can then become part of a flower. Us Dallas fans are just waiting for our turd to bloom.
