Passing Interceptions Records (1 Viewer)

Dave Baker

Damn glad to meet you
How does one find out who has thrown the most interceptions year by year in NFL history? When is the last time someone threw more than 29 (Favre) INTs?NFL.com only shows the last three seasons. Footballreference does not list this yearly stat (unless checking for specific players).Any help?

Vinny Testaverde threw 35 INT's in 1988 while playing for Tampa.

I believe that is the highest total in history (how could it not be).
Thanks. I was more curious where one would go to find that info out. With all the stats at our disposal, it's strange that this is a stat that seemingly is not easy to be had.Who has led the league in interceptions thrown year by year?

It's interesting how there are some good QBs on that list.

A non-good QB is almost always benched before he ever gets to those totals.

Exactly. That's why if you look at guys who hold records for large volumes of negative things, frequently they are pretty decent players overall. If they weren't, they wouldn't be kept around to accumulate the volume.

Fewest Attempts per Interception in a season (min. 200 attempts):Eddie LeBaron - 9.0 (1960)Terry Bradshaw - 9.1 (1970)George Blanda - 10.0 (1962)Jack Kemp - 10.3 (1964)John Hadl - 10.8 (1962)Dennis Shaw - 11.2 (1971)Joe Namath - 11.6 (1975)Ken Stabler - 12.2 (1975)Joe Pisarcik - 13.1 (1978)Fran Tarkenton - 13.2 (1962)

Interesting stat - even though Peyton Manning and Brett Favre have the #13 (1998) and #12 (2005), their attempts per INT was quite high at 20.5 and 20.9, respectively.Another interesting stat - of the QB's with the top 100 highest passing attempts in a season, Rich Gannon has the top two spots in most attempts per INT - 61.8 (2002) and 61.0 (2001).
