Mamouxif anyone wants to take a look at my ####ed up build. Tips/hints appreciated. TIAhttp://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgEAAdwD2wthEtkaPhtFITQlJykuMn426DpSOzs8LT38PydGaUz_UFBYY1ivXUlgxGSjZ5tuqnfjeA15aHuMhymMBo6_pKypbq4-tfK-isEExBXE9sbY1I_cPd-_7w7xrA==
I am no expert, but it looks like you are going all over the place instead of focusing on one thing. I would decide what kind of weapon you want and focus on that. For instance, I am going with 2H axe and am focusing all I can on life, armor, axe and resistances. So I will grab the % life for STR and DEX, the resists for STR and DEX, the armor for both and the axe and 2H for both. Assuming I get/craft a decent axe, he will roll. You are right by a few excellent defensive nodes and passed them by.
Yeah what happened was I was trying to get skills that would allow me to use the gear I had at the time. A lot of times my gems wouldn't upgrade because I lacked dexterity or a strength to use them. I need to add intelligence to use my arrows and certain weapons. I was all over the place and it is a mess. With all that being said I made it to level 40 and seem to have missed a lot of "marauder" skills along the way. I have a nice bow, and some pretty good skills. I use mostly a two handed weapon so my ground slam is useless and I have picked up 5 of them along the way. . I have missed the leap slam gem along the way.

Are you a bow user, because Iron grip is for bow users? The above poster was correct you have random +10 to stat nodes all over this build that are unnecessary, you grabbed iron grip but also have a bunch of melee and mace nodes.

Unfocused is how I would describe it so far.

You skipped the core life nodes at the beginning of the marauder tree, the two life nodes and trolls blood are kind of staple nodes, also the flaks nodes are pretty bad.
I wanted to use my bow more and I just happened to see that node. I use the poison arrow on my bow and it is pretty fun.

Poison arrow is good, bow marauders are also very good. Unfortunately the skill tree does not really allow for making hybrid attack style characters. So at some point you will have to choose between bows or melee. My lvl 70 elemental ranger at the moment uses blood magic and is very strong, I was planning on making a marauder bow user that used explosive arrow.

This is the tree for my ranger: L70 Elemental Ranger

This is the tree I was going to use for my Bow Marauder that is still a WIP: WIP Bow Marauder

How can I link my double strike gem to my lightning gem? Is it possible? I just got the double strike gem, and am trying to find the best gem to link it with.

No. These are two individual attacks. You need a a gem that states "support" gem to link it to lightning strike. Like Fork or Multiple Projectiles. Then you need an item that has the right color gem slots that are linked.

this is great:http://poetools.com/market/
Oh that is awesome! Thanks! Makes drinking out of the trade window firehouse almost obsolete. What would be the next step if you see something you want? Would you send a pm via the forums?Who is building all these tools? Is it GGG or just gamers?

I spend more time reading about this game than playing it (which is great! I keep wanting to learn more).

What do the following mean that I see a lot when reading the forums? I have guesses but want to make sure

Ladder Don't know myself, but assume it's an official ranking thing

RacesThere was a video posted in this thread of a 3 hour race, it was interesting enough that I watched a lot of it

c/o (in relation to trading)Current offer

PST (in relation to trading)Please say tell, which is a weird way to say: Whisper me
thanks! So is a race something set up by GGG where everyone starts with a blank character and it becomes a "race" to see who gets to a certain level/act first?
Yeah, I think that's how it works, although the video was a guy simulating a race because there wasn't one going on at the time. He does hold the record as far as I know in a real race. Level 32. something in 3 hours. I think the determining measure is how much you level, not how far you get. It's a pretty interesting video, taught me some things. It's kind of the opposite of what JoJo is suggesting for hardcore, in that the guy always trys to stay 4 levels under the content for more experience. This may have changed since the video was made, I don't know. Of course, this is for race purposes, he skips some quests that you would normally do but are not required. This may have changed since the video was made, I don't know. Here it is:
Are there any recent videos that do not include phase running and include Act 3 :excited: ?

Hit lvl 70, been using the same bow since lvl 48 until now. But thats alright, cause ill never have to upgrade my weapon again.

I'm 3 dex below the required amount to equip it though, which is quite the kick in the balls.

Old bow on the left, new bow on the right: Hnnnnng

As soon as I can afford an exalted I'm gonna gamble on a 5th stat.

Edit: Oh yeah, it dropped with only 1 socket, I used 6 jewelers and lucked out on a 6s, then burned 20 fusings trying to get a 5L or 6L, but a 4L will suffice.

Will the exalted orb keep the 4 current stats as is and add a 5th random one, or will all 5 be random?
It adds an additional stat while preserving the previous ones. You can build items from the ground up but it becomes very expensive. You can take a white item, transmute it then use alterations until it has two stats you really like with high rolls, then use a regal orb to make it rare and add a 3rd stat to it, and then exalt it 3 times.I prefer to regal only certain items, but for weapons and armor I prefer to find good rares and then exalt them for a 5th or 6th stat.

Wife and girls away until Monday evening. Son and I gone for a Fathers/Sons campout tonight, but will have free time this weekend/Monday to group if anyone is game. I have 2 characters in mid-Act 2. Would like to finish Act 3 on the Marauder.

Thanks to you guys for recommending farming on The Ledge.I am averaging at least one orb or quality improvement piece every run. On my 3rd run I even got an exalted orb.

Nice! What level are you and what difficulty are you running the ledge?

Some questions and comments1) I think I am going to try point blank with my archer. I have picked up two orbs of regret farming the ledge (in the same run no less) and can use them if I don't like what it does to my character when the time comes2) Picked up my first unique while farming (cool amulet for magic users), but stupidly sold it forgetting I could stash it for another character some day :wall: 3) Do you guys feel the end game content is interesting enough to save your orbs for in terms of creating the best equipment very late in the game?4) What is the recommendation for the quality upgrades (flask, gems, armor, weapons etc). Should these be held until end game as well like the orbs?

Wow, sounded below average at first and then you got an exalted  Best drop ive gotten so far, besides my bow which I crafted has been a divine, but I', grinding maps with the quickness. I've been getting ridiculously lucky with map drops, normally you are supposed to get 0.75 map per map but I've been pulling in 3-5 maps per map all yesterday. Gonna be a long day today when I ever get on today.

I have not seen a single map drop yet in probably 8 hours of playing. I think I may have seen everything else though. Will maps drop in Act 1 or do I need to farm later in the game maybe?

This may have been posted but is there a link which shows some of the basic formula's the game uses? Like how strength translates into health, dexterity in accuracy, intelligence into mana etc etc etc ?

Goodluck, point blank can be fun, I recommend lightning arrow and LMP for AoE, shotgunning mobs is very fun.

Happens, was it the Stone of Lazarus?

3) Do you guys feel the end game content is interesting enough to save your orbs for in terms of creating the best equipment very late in the game?
The way I look at the currency is, you got two routes. 1. you get to end game and blow it all trying to make items you will use. Or. 2. you save up your currency and buy exactly what you want when it becomes available. Obviously the 2nd is more safe and I would recommend it, but I'm a degenerate gambler so I ride the fence on this one, I save up my currency until I need a legitimate upgrade and then I use my currency until I get one.

4) What is the recommendation for the quality upgrades (flask, gems, armor, weapons etc). Should these be held until end game as well like the orbs?
For armor and weapons I would recommend getting them all to 20% if you plan on using them for more than 5 levels. For flasks I would wait until end game and only upgrade the flasks you plan to keep. For example, I'm using 4 hallowed (last tier) health flasks, three of them having the sapping prefix which increases the amount healed by 60% and steals 10% of your mana, but since im blood magic it just heals an extra 60%, now one of those has the warding prefix which means while its healing me I cannot be cursed, I then have one that dispels burning and the third has +90% armor while its in effect. My last health pot is an instant heal dispel freeze potion. My 5th flask is a quicksilver with a perfect adrenaline mod, so it gives +40% movespeed on the flask and then the mod gives another +30% movespeed. I didn't upgrade any flasks until I got these. Gems, gems are definitely end game, its almost never worth it to upgrade a gem from 0 to 20%, you more often then not can get a gem around 15% for 3-4 GCP and then spend another 5 getting it to 20%.

1) I am using lightening arrow and really like it. I am using "Faster Projectiles" to support Split Arrow right now, but I wonder if it would be better to use to support Lightening Arrow. If I get two "Faster Projectile" support gems, can I use them both, one supporting one skill and one supporting another skill?2) It was called Stone of Lazhwar. http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Unique_Items#AmuletsThanks for all of the hints for upgrades!

They begin dropping in act 1 merciless and a much lower rate than they do in maps, you will normally find one map as you play through all of merciless.

ok that makes sense. No need for end game maps until you get through merciless any way.Have you enjoyed the end game content? The map system sounds very interesting.

Yes, you can support a gem with as many support gems as you have linked sockets. Faster projectiles is a good early support because it increases projectile damage as the gem levels. When you hit 19 or 21 (can't remember which) I would recommend throwing on Lesser Multiple Projectiles, the tooltip will say its reducing your damage by roughly 30%, but since its reducing it by 30% and giving you two additional arrows (that will also benefit from point blank) and the AoE explosion from lightning arrow will overlap each other you actually gain quite a bit of damage.

Yes, I was undergeared from 66 (when I started doing maps,) till now at 72. I'm still relatively undergeared, 70 fire and cold res, only 10 lightning res - which hurts me a lot cause most of my damage is lightning and when I hit reflect mobs it reflects lightning damage...But yes, maps have been overall enjoyable, its repetitive but so is everything else and I don't mind as long as I'm collecting loots. The mob composition changes each map so each map is pseudo unique in addition to the mods you roll on it.I rolled the first map I was unable to do yesterday, died 3 times and lost 45% of my exp bar before giving up.Turns out I can't handle:Players are cursed with elemental weaknessMonsters reflect 20% of elemental damageMosnters gain frenzy charges every 30 secondsPlayers regenerate health, mana and energy shield 50% slowerI essentially could not deal enough damage to kill the mobs before killing myself.

I would pay for an app that would tell me what my current best weapon with my gems is currently. Something that you could tweak for personal reasons but would at least would have you playing with your best stuff if you were so inclined. I spend 30 minutes sometimes just fooling around with the gear I have swapping gems back and forth.

So should I be using any orbs to create items? I have not used anything aside from an occasional alteration and transmutation. Currently have 28 ranger and 31 marauder. Have 9 alchemy, 10 chance, and a bunch of the altering ones like chromatic, fusing, etc. I am hesitant to use anything that creates a rare too soon. Have not used any arm scraps or whetstones, wanting to find an amazing white, quality it all the way up, then try for an amazing rare?

Yeah I am in the same boat. I am at level 44 and don't even know how to use the orbs and such much. I traded for the first time today.

I just used an alchemy orb to get a pretty good rare weapon that was an upgrade for me. I probably could have bought a better one with the alch, but I like gambling sometimes. Oh, and I upgraded the white item first.

Honestly unless you are struggling to progress you should hold off, you will hit multiple walls in merciless when you will need to either craft or buy gear with your currency.

Two things about the Temple of Solaris in Act 3. First, very cool atmosphere. It is very immersive and has such an odd, eerie feel to it. Almost Lord of the Rings-style music/feel.Second, COULD YOU HAVE A FEW BIGGER CONSECUTIVE LEVELS WITHOUT A WAYPOINT, #####ES?!?! Seriously, that was frustrating. Made it through without dying by I wanted to end and no way I was doing it over again, so I kept on going. :wall:

It almost made me give up my Witch build. That damned necro boss that runs away from you constantly is the suck. My Marauder didn't have as much trouble, at a lower level.

I did find my first unique tonight. Goldwyrm boots. Pretty good roll too, the variable stats are 40-50 Fire Resist and 20-30 item quanitity. I got 48 and 28. Seem to be moderately valuable, 60% mana regen with item quantity, resist and movement speed is pretty cool. Doesn't do my current Marauder build any good, though.

Traded a pretty sweet unique helm on HC w/ 18% all resists and some other features I forget for a unique dropped in group, another helm w/ +1 fire and cold +60% mana regen and neg resists for fire and cold (I think)

Somewhere in Act 1 Cruel difficulty. Dropped off a normal monster.

damn this makes me feel even worse about mistakenly selling my unique :(So this mean you made it through the entire normal mode with not a single unique drop. Yikes. Did you farm a lot?

No, I didn't farm a lot in normal, just went straight through. This is my second char that I've taken through normal without a unique drop, though.

Solaris Temple is my favorite zone in the game now, love the design love the mobs. But I agree its ridiculous, if I'm ever on and you are at act 3 and need the solaris waypoint, don't hesitate to pm me for the waypoint.Having gone through act 3 at least 20 times now it only took about 5 times before I started paying people or asking friends for the waypoint, id rather finish the quest and then farm battlefront or docks for xp.Also the Gemling Queen is my favorite NPC by a lot.
So if I just go to Not-a-Cockroach, how much longer in my first run through here?
If you mean getting to the Gemling Queen and how much time left until the end of the difficulty, it depends. In the battlefront you should have gotten the enchanted ribbon spool, in the docks you will have to grab the infernal talc. Take both back to the Gemling queen (thanks to the handy waypoint right next to her) and she will give you back an enchanted infernal talc.Use the talc to burn the sewer sphincter that was blocking your way, make your way through the aquaducts and you will emerge in the Barracks, now you have only two quests left.-Kill General Gravicius-Kill Piety of TheopolisGravicius is in a tent in the Barracks zone and can be a pain, he has a huge energy shield and will nonstop be casting firespells, but if you have 50%+ fire resists you should be fine.Piety is at the end of the third floor of Lunaris temple, and man if you thought Solaris temple was bad, hold on to your butts cause Lunaris can be torture for some builds. Piety is also a #####, I recommend trying to get as close to 75% all elemental resists for that fight, if you can't manage it I don't mind helping just pst my IGN: Star_IV and If im on ill help out.

Is the way point a drop? I have seen anything like that in Act 1 or 2 yet. I just use portal scrolls if needed.

Waypoints are found on the ground in certain zones and are part of the zone itself, not items. You can get an idea of what a waypoint looks like in the encampment, there is a waypoint in each of the encampments on your minimap it looks like a blue circle.
