Path of Exile (free to play & now on Xbone) (1 Viewer)

Damn jewelers orb! I thought I would link all 4 of my sockets together, but instead lost one on a pretty nice item. Guess it is all up to luck.I am having a hard time also picking up orbs and gear when I play with other people. Seems like I can't get to the item fast enough.
Yeah, the loot system sucks. You have like 2 seconds, and people run ahead so they can pick up anything good.

Its not just you, even when I have a relatively low latency (~30ms) I still get ninjad. The only suggestion I have is if you play in public groups, play in ones that specify no ninja looting or my preferred solution, create all the public parties you play in and be ruthless with how you manage your party, if people are taking each others loot, just kick them no questions asked. I don't see the looting system changing any time soon, but playing a ranged character in addition to the fact that you can actually body block other players (seriously, its like being in a party with 5 lebron james, since they clicked your loot before it was grabbable they just run over to it and create a cage you can't break) I would love for them to go against their design choice and change the timer of dropped loot to like 10 secs.FFA loot shouldn't be so bad, but there seems to be a majority of players that just don't respect peoples style of play.

So can we get player names here to add as friends? My 2 are Tarethyn and WittyNameHere

First major patch is available since open beta was released. This group of developers just rocks!Version 0.10.1 (Current Version)Features/Content:All skill gems and support gems have received new art.The 3d artwork for many shields has been substantially updated and improved.Overhauled most of the sound effects so that they use pitch and volume variations to avoid being repetitive.Added new music for the Act Three boss fight.Improved all of the Duelist's animations. The Unique bow Death's Harp now has a particle effect for its custom art.Updated and shrunk the visual size of Frenzy, Endurance and Power charges.Added magic-only skeletons for the Map necro boss that can raise magic monsters.Pressing the alt (or highlight) key in trade while hovering an item now says "item level" rather than "level" to make it clearer.On-hit effects can now apply even if they deal no damage.Renamed "Angel Kite Shield" to "Angelic Kite Shield".Overhauled the zombie audio.Improved blood effects.Continued to incrementally improve the art, effects, environments and sound.End-game Map Changes:Added 11 new types of Maps: Arsenal, Arcade, Ghetto, Promenade, Temple, Colonnade, Bazaar, Crematorium, Precinct, Shipyard and Shrine.Map progression now extends to area level 77.Maps which had the same level topologies as other maps now have their own new layouts. The Labyrinthine mod now provides a more consistent increase in maps and is comparable to the Massive mod on applicable maps. Some existing maps have had their bosses changed or reworked. Some recipes for upgrading maps produce a different map than they did previously.Balance Changes:Stun Threshold Reduction now has diminishing returns when it exceeds 75%. It's still possible to build very effective stun characters, but they cannot permanently lock down the hardest of bosses.Increased the non-percentage Armour values on item mods to be the same as Evasion.Boss totems now do more damage with Spark.Increased the damage that Perpetus deals with Ethereal Knives.Bug Fixes:Fixed a bug where monsters affected by the Energy Shield aura would get too much Energy Shield in multiplayer games.Fixed a bug with where social status messages could wrap around incorrectly.Fixed a bug where players could not right click offline players on the friends list.Fixed a bug where the Stun Threshold Reduction on Mortem Morsu was not limited to just attacks by that weapon.Fixed a server crash related to currency items.Fixed a server crash that would occur involving Bear Traps. If you have a full microtransaction stash and purchase an additional microtransaction, a new microtransaction tab will now be added. This currently only works if you are not logged into the game client at the time. The addition of microtransaction stashes while you are logged in will be fixed in a future patch.

JDonk your login? If so, got you added. That would be awesome if you added friends by login instead of character name. Makes so much more sense.
I like it, when a friends account logs in it will tell you which character they are logged in on, but when they are logged off it shows their account name.Good patch all in all. My Death's Harp probably just went up in value lol, wonder what the new skill gem and support gem art looks like, I have two stash tabs full of gems, I wish I could at a glance tell wtf they are.Hilarious sidenote, D3 content patch today 8 hour downtown. PoE content patch today, 2 minute downtime.Just finished my homework so I've finally managed some free time, the patching server upgrade must have been substantial, I'm getting ridiculous speeds. Fluctuating between 3mb/s-10mb/s

It may have been posted in here but is there a link to the relative value/rarity of all the different orbs? I know what each one does but I am uncertain which ones I can use early and which ones should be held until later.

You can check the trade forums and get a pretty good idea of value and rarity. Or trade chat, I've gotten some things cheaper there than they were in the shops. Also, there's http://www.poeex.info/

thanks for the link. I picked up an exalted orb the other day as a drop. I guess that is pretty valuable but its description seems like it could be a dud if you get a bad role.

Yeah, save that for trading, it's valuable. I still haven't found one :kicksrock:

Trade in to one of the vendors or trade to one of the other players?

Players. Definitely don't vendor. JoJo or Buddy2k probably know better than me, but I would guess an exalted is worth 1-3 gcps, which are a common unit of currency for big ticket items.

Gem cutter prisms. Actually, looking at the chart I linked above, It seems to say it's 6 GCP = 1 Exalted. I don't know that's actually the current ratio though.

I guess the whole trade thing alludes me a bit still. I still don't understand how to value items that are being traded. There seem to be a million things on the trade chat that start with WTS(wanted to sell I assume), but I have no idea what to offer people for various items when it is not an orb for orb type trade (ornb for orb I can use the chart you linked above to give a general value). If I see someone in chat listing an item I would like, do I just respond on the chat itself to make an offer?I need to find a faq on how to trade. There must be one on the POE forums.

Ask them, don't make an offer. Take a look at some of the big shops in the forums with prices, that will give you a baseline. For example, I bought a gem in trade chat the other night for about half of what was being asked on the forums. Concentrate on looking at specific gems, armor and weapons that you want. Remember, people have been playing this for months, I, like you, just started recently. There's a learning curve.

it is like drinking out of a fire hose reading the chat screen. The proper etiquette to "whisper" to someone specific if I see something I want to trade for?

I'd suggest looking at some of the big shops on the forums to get a rough idea, then see what they're asking in chat if you see something you want. I agree with the overload, the only things I've bought are gems I know I need for my build. You should know that too. If you're just winging it, you're going to run into a wall. There are tons of builds posted, use one as a blueprint, and then modify it as you want. And yes, just whisper them. They may or may not respond. Another thing you can do if you need something specific is to just ask for it in trade chat. People will respond, then if they don't tell you what they want you can ask.

On buying items I typically play it a little fast and loose, I know what stats are desirable and thus expensive. For items below lvl 50 I never offer more than a chaos, and typically only an alchemy orb, if I see a piece of gear that will make my leveling experience go faster I will pay a little closer to a chaos but the short of it is I wont be using it for more than a couple hours.

For end game stuff, its a sellers market right now, unfortunately. If you see a really nice piece of gear there are 20 other dudes that also want it, so I just ask them what they want and if they ask me to offer and shoot them a 3/4 offer of what I think its worth - they will either tell you no or take you up, its not worth my time to barter with people, but some people enjoy that aspect of trading. For selling, I know what price I want and if I don't get it I don't sell it.

Some tips:

-Quality gems are typically worth 1 GCP for each 5% quality on them, this is not always the case desirable gems are much more expensive whereas undesirable gems are never worth it (auras are about as garbage as quality gems come).

-If you are looking for a 4Link white item never pay more than a couple jewelers for one, when you hit merciless you will be drowning in them.

-5Link weapons are pricey if they are desirable types (1.20+ speed mauls and thicket bows mostly) but other than that are worth maybe a gcp if you are lucky.

-5Link armors on the other hand are always pricey. Most expensive being armor or evasion, then armor/evasion hybrid and tied for terrible last place are energy shield, and armor/es and evasion/es. The armor, evasion and armor/evasion typically start at an exalted (6x GCP), the others are generally just a little below that not by much though.

-Desirable mods on all armor:

[*]+Life 50-100

[*]Elemental Resists 20-45%

[*]Chaos resistance 10-30%

[*]+Armor/Evasion/Max Energy shield (flat amount)

[*]+%Armor/Evasion/Max Energy shield

[*]Increased Attack Speed (only on Gloves)

[*]Increased move speed 20-35% (only on boots, most important stat on boots, severely reduces value without it)\

[*]Increased Weapon elemental damage (can be found on weapons, quivers, belts, rings and amulets - very desirable, very expensive 20-30%)

-Desirable mods on all weapons:

[*]Increased attack speed 15-30%

[*]Additional elemental damage (fire 30-60/lightning 20-120/cold 30-60 flat amount)

[*]Weapon Elemental Damage increase (20-30%, again very expensive)

[*]Additional Physical damage (flat amount)

[*]Increased physical damage (% of maximum)

[*]Chaos Resistance (10-30%)

[*]+Level of *weapon or elemental* type gems (Wands with +2 to lightning gems are very pricey, bows with +2 to bow gems, also very pricey.)

-Rares can have 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes (prefixes and suffixes are the item mods), Life and damage mods are all prefixes, resistances are all suffixes. An item rolling 3 desirable prefixes or suffixes is rare - and thus valuable. http://www.pathofexile.com/item-data

I have been using a rare bow called Pandemonium Mark Short Bow. I assumed Pandemonium Mark was considered a "prefix" mod but I can't find that name listed in the prefix names. Is this a new prefix not listed or is this something totally different?http://www.pathofexile.com/item-data/prefixmodHere are the stats BowQuality: +3%Physical Damage: 6-16Critical Strike Chance: 5%Attacks per Second: 1.68Requires Level 16 (gem), 41 Dex (gem)+1 to Level of Bow Gems in this item43% increased Physical Damage8% increased Attack Speed1% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched back as Mana+8% to Lightning Resistance12% increased Stun Duration on enemies

Is the end game content (the maps) difficulty level harder than merciless?Or when you guys refer to end game are you more talking about trying to get through merciless?

Are the orbs worth anything when trading? I am too lazy and getting ready for work to look it up. I have a few too many blue gems, and ton of red and green.

Right now I have a 32 templar in A3 normal with mace + shield, almost 1k life that is hitting content between 3-4 levels below my level and is going very smoothly. Even in content that is 3 levels below me you can get into sticky situations if you get too aggressive so I have a speed flask on me at all times and I group up for boss fights since more targets (for the boss) make it safer. The pace seems slower in groups, people are not as rushed and not nearly as much ninja-ing going on.

Are you in A3 normal hardcore or A3 normal default mode?Hardcore must be incredibly difficult. It sounds almost rogue like in that one death and your are done with hardcore mode (I believe if you die you get sent back to default mode). I am unsure if you can restart hardcore mode with the same character or if you have to start with a brand new character.

HC, yes you get sent to default on death, need to start from lvl 1 when you die. It's really not that hard when you load up on life and wait 3 levels to tackle content. I was surprised how easy the bandits and piety was (first appearance in A3).

Yeah, I think that's how it works, although the video was a guy simulating a race because there wasn't one going on at the time. He does hold the record as far as I know in a real race. Level 32. something in 3 hours. I think the determining measure is how much you level, not how far you get. It's a pretty interesting video, taught me some things. It's kind of the opposite of what JoJo is suggesting for hardcore, in that the guy always trys to stay 4 levels under the content for more experience. This may have changed since the video was made, I don't know. Of course, this is for race purposes, he skips some quests that you would normally do but are not required. So for the long time players, what is the furthest you have gone in hardcore mode?Do you first have to beat the game in default/merciless mode before hardcore/normal unlocks?
My first hardcore marauder made it to end game and up to about lvl 75. This was before act 3 and the damage increase on mobs, as recklessly as I play now I doubt I could manage it again. Also whoever above said you start at lvl 1 on default if you die in hardcore, I may have misread that but its entirely wrong. When you die in hardcore you respawn in default at whatever level you were, with whatever gear you had on you or in your inventory.

I think what he was saying that once you die, if you want to do hard core again, you have to start at level 1, even though your character can live on in default mode.

Aww that makes sense then, I skimmed over the new replies like a scumbag lol.

I spend more time reading about this game than playing it (which is great! I keep wanting to learn more).

What do the following mean that I see a lot when reading the forums? I have guesses but want to make sure

Ladder Don't know myself, but assume it's an official ranking thing

RacesThere was a video posted in this thread of a 3 hour race, it was interesting enough that I watched a lot of it

c/o (in relation to trading)Current offer

PST (in relation to trading)Please say tell, which is a weird way to say: Whisper me

I am no expert, but it looks like you are going all over the place instead of focusing on one thing. I would decide what kind of weapon you want and focus on that. For instance, I am going with 2H axe and am focusing all I can on life, armor, axe and resistances. So I will grab the % life for STR and DEX, the resists for STR and DEX, the armor for both and the axe and 2H for both. Assuming I get/craft a decent axe, he will roll. You are right by a few excellent defensive nodes and passed them by.

Are you a bow user, because Iron grip is for bow users? The above poster was correct you have random +10 to stat nodes all over this build that are unnecessary, you grabbed iron grip but also have a bunch of melee and mace nodes.Unfocused is how I would describe it so far.You skipped the core life nodes at the beginning of the marauder tree, the two life nodes and trolls blood are kind of staple nodes, also the flaks nodes are pretty bad.
