Here's a question though. Cold weather teams fumble more. But cold weather teams also (assuming on average everyone starts at the same inflation) have less inflation due to temperature. :o

Some science guy help me out with this one.
BAM!!
Cold fingers, harder ground.

Nice post.
Incredible post. Good work.
So what if the Pats ball security vs their opponents magically got better the same year the rules were changed to allow the visitors to bring their own balls. I mean, that could be just another in a string of huge coincidences.
They are the luckiest team in the NFL.

The NFL said the balls in the 2nd half were fine. Brady threw 2 of his 3 TD's in the second half. I think the Patriots should sue the NFL for having to play the first half with defective balls. Should have been 65 to 0 if the Colts didn't cheat.

The pretender Luck couldn't throw a single TD with a fully inflated ball. ####### cheating Colts.

I think Bill Simmons and his father are going to go back and listen to today's podcast one day and cringe. Pathetic. #1 Patriots superfan thinks this could be the end of Belichick and Brady? What planet are those guys on?

Anyone else think this is a complete non-story and the amount of coverage over it is ridiculous?
Everyone except the "salty haters" feels this way.
Honest people that care about the integrity of the league aren't "salty haters". They're people who have been burnt by this team before and are turned off by the negative press the league is getting from this.
oh please..spygate?..every team did the same, Pats just a bit longer. Some dope on ESPN even brought up the snow p,low game and the tuck rule as examples of the Patriots being cheaters..really? I can't believe so many are being duped by the media.

Senility seems to be hitting you hard Gramps.

I know the truth hurts.

Oh OK so they paid 750k and draft picks when it was just common practice? And they haven't won a Super Bowl since? Now since the Chiefs debacle they're world beaters? Then this? Yeah nothing to see here, they're angels. I can't believe how many are duped by their blind loyalty.

well, if you notice, d'qwell jackson managed to pick brady off while brady had been given a colts ball to throw.

I think this raises some obvious questions about how the colts are doctoring their balls to make them easier for their defenders to catch, as well as the possibility they coat them with lead paint and issue magnets to their defenders.

Wow, it's like this thread has come full circle. Good point Beav

Is there a list of excuses?

1. Officials didn't measure the pressure properly, so we don't know what the pregame pressure was.

2. The weather caused the loss of pressure.

3.

What am I missing? Haven't read entire thread.
3. Jesus did it.

4. This is all just imaginary because we're all SIPPIN ON THAT SALTY HATORADE

5. The Patriots are so awesome that .... SHUTUP

6. HATERS!

Has any credible source reported that the refs used a gauge to inspect the balls pre-game?
Depends on whether you understand English or not.
Would you care to back that up? Because i've been following this pretty closely and I haven't heard a credible source report it. In fact, PK this afternoon went out of his way to issue a tweet saying that he did not know if a gauge was used to measure the balls pre-game. And in the NFL statement they only say the balls were "inspected" pre-game.It's kind of a big unanswered question, don't you think? Or are you one of the mob mentality folks in here that's already determined the balls were tampered with?

The really ironic part is that most of the people complaining here about cheating and lying are Obama voters. I know, I know why bring politics into it.

It is what it is and people are hypocrites, go figure.

For those that were asking, the Boston globe reported that all 24 footballs were checked with a pressure gauge supplied by the league BEFORE the game.

Speaking of idiots, what team did the Pats get Blount from?

Was it the same pressure gauge? They didn't report whether or not a different gauge was used for the Colts vs the Pats balls so it could've been defective. Until the NFL makes a statement on this I'm just going to believe it was a faulty reading.

I OBJECT TO #3!

Becawse Gawd himself sent Tawm Bradah so St. Belichick [genuflect] could share his perfection with the greatest fan base evah!

And where were they measured? Were the Patriots tested in the sauna? We don't know.

Same gauge. All footballs from both teams. Same gauge used at halftime and after the game. Second gauge used to confirm at halftime and post game.

There will be no "my dog ate it excuse" in terms of faulty testing or malfunctioning equipment.

Look up Ben Volin and Boston Globe to read the article. Too hard to link from my phone.

At a bare minimum, we should be getting a video of the test being done supervised by Neil deGrasse Tyson and affidavits from the manufacturer of the gauge that it was calibrated and working properly prior to testing. There's just too many unresolved questions right now. Anything could've happened.

If so I have a hard time believing the Pats are so stupid. But I guess we will find out if this is the case. I think this will be Belichick's final game if we find this out.

The Patriots may or may not have deliberately taken air out of the footballs they used in last Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Colts. But the footballs definitely went through the proper pregame protocol and passed inspection.

According to an NFL source with direct knowledge of the situation, referee Walt Anderson inspected all 24 of the Patriots’ footballs with a pressure gauge supplied by the league, as well as all 24 footballs from the Colts. All 48 footballs were found to be inflated within the allowable range of 12.5-13.5 pounds per square inch.

Wow. I think any reasonable person being objective here can only come to one conclusion. Aliens.

There are not 48 balls, there are 36. 12 by the colts, 12 by the pats, and 12 more provided by the home team as back ups. The current scoop is the balls used by NE in the first half were deflated. The 12 used after halftime by NE were at specification and the same 12 passed spec at the end of the game.

Brady etc better hope there's no evidence they did what they say they didn't do.

They're probably in some trouble either way at this point (based on current reporting), but IMO if they tried to cover this up and/or lied to Goodell and get busted the NFL will hang someone high.

Exactly. Nowhere in there does it say that gauges were used pre-game. It's very possible that all 24 balls were inspected by gauges at halftime and after the game - after the issue was raised to the refs. As for "proper pregame protocol", we still don't know exactly what that is. There's a lot of speculation out there that in practice the refs sometimes do a cursory visual inspection.I don't know what the answer is, but it is very odd that the NFL or the media hasn't come out with a definitive statement on this.
