I just found this this morning and posted it on the FBGs news page:

Patriots Filed For Patent On "19-0" Trademark In January

Chuck Bennett, New York Post - [Full Article]

The arrogance of the New England Patriots team has finally come to light, having already applied for trademarks on "19-0" and "19-0 The Perfect Season." Three days before they beat the San Diego Chargers, and more than two weeks before Super Bowl XLII, the team egotistically filed paperwork with the US Patent and Trademark Office to cash in on sales of T-shirts, caps, posters and all kinds of Pats paraphernalia. The New York Post, ever confident that Eli Manning and company will squash the Pats on Sunday, spent $375 for its own trademark application this week - on "18-1."

Thoughts?

The old head coach of the Bulls did that years ago, before they won their 3rd consecutive title. I don't see the big deal personally.

They also had shirts and hats already printed for each team as conference champion. It's just being prepared. If they wait until they win it then someone else may get the trademark on it. Has nothing whatsoever to do with arrogance.Only thing I can see wrong with it is that they didn't trademark "19-0*" and all the variations so that no one else can use it.

I actually don't fault them for this. They were just trying to beat the countless manufacturers who would put the saying "19-0" on T-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, etc. By creating a patent on that saying, they thwart all of the merchants who would benefit from creating it. Now that there is a trademark to the saying, nobody will be legally able to make them. I honestly don't think it was a decision based on cockiness or greed. :scared:

Ya, when Tom Brady and Bill Belichick stepped on my little sister's puppy to walk into that Trademark® office . . .

Teams also arrogantly book hotels in multiple cities ahead of time in the event they advance in the playoffs!

I sure hope they don't lose, because I think the Bears have a trademark on "18-1" and "18 and won".

Pats fans may look ahead. The city of Boston officials may look ahead. The Patriot lawyers may look ahead.

I haven't seen one thing that tells me the Patriot players or coaches look ahead. Ever.

Does anybody here do patent law? It's hard to believe you could patent a record.

(The Pat Riley comparison isn't that great. "Three-peat" was at least a new word; by way of contrast, lots of teams have been 19-0 at one time or another).

No such thing. Really. Do you believe in ghosts and horoscopes too?
Please. Plus, no atheists in a foxhole.I admit, much as I may rail against these silly versions of god and religion we keep coming up with, if touching my hat lid with my left hand while leaning uncomfortably to the right results in a Giants TD, Im not moving a thing so long as that good luck streak continues.

I don't have any links, don't care to look it up, but I believe there have been a decent amount of college basketball teams that have started a season 19-0.
