Jeff,

Just trying to understand something. You didn't like my last pick of Shaun McDonald. But you obviously liked your pick of James Jones.

In fact, you pointed out that JJ has a better chance of increasing his #s by 20% than Driver or Jennings.

Personally, I like how often McDonald was targeted, even playing behind Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson. So in that sense, both James and McDonald should be the third WR target on their teams.

But going back to your point about 20% - do you realize that IF Jones increases by 20% (not likely going from Favre to Rodgers - though I certainly hope so since I have Rodgers) - that would be 152 points in our system.

Meanwhile IF McDonald regressed by 20% - that would mean 153 points.

So even IF both happened - your guy improved by 20% while my guy decreased by 20%, McDonald - who you didn't like - would still do better.

For me though, it had more to do with 79 receptions, 943 yards, and 6 TDs (even w/ Roy and Calvin playing 27 of 32 games) being a lot better than almost any other WR out there at that point. One would be hard-pressed to find a WR who did better in 2 of those 3 categories (of what was left at the time), let alone better in all 3.

HTF,Good question. Sometimes I'm not 100% serious in these drafts, so take all comments with a grain of salt. :)That said, I'll address this tomorrow.

Sorry....pm'd a list to Jeff. I don't shut off my computer when I leave so I often appear here when I'm not.

Ok,So here's the deal. This is actually a really good question, so I'll try and touch on all my thoughts here.Basically, James Jones' upside is exactly what happened with SMac that year. SMac was the 3rd/4th WR in Detroit last year in September. Then he moved up and past Furrey, and he benefitted by being on a Martz team that threw way way WAY too often. Also, the intended #2 WR (Calvin Johnson) was hurt and not up to snuff in the 2nd half of the year.So basically in 2007 you have SMac getting THE MOST TARGETS of any Lion with 127. More than Roy W (104), more than CJ2 (95) and of course more than Furrey (90). The positives for SMac are that he caught about 60% of his targets (79 of 127) for 943 yards and 6 TDs, but I don't see anything but downside. I expect Detroit to use a TE more (and draft one) and focus / emphasize Roy W / CJ2. They've already said that they want to see how those two do together this year.I'd expect SMac to perform similarly but with <<< targets this year. I'd think about 75 targets is about right, so 50 catches and 3-4 TDs feels about right.

Basically, James Jones' upside is exactly what happened with SMac that year.
The rest makes perfect sense, but do you really think this is true? Even if we concede Roy/CJ = Driver/Jennings (I don't, as CJ was a rookie, and Driver's a better possession / safe target for a 1st year starter than Roy) Rodgers and the GB O does not equal the Lions O and Kitna - at least not under Martz. I'd take Jones over McDonald right now, but don't see either doing nearly what Mac did last year, barring injury.

That's kind of the point. It was a "perfect storm" that made SMac what he was last year.If JJones has either Jennings or Driver go down for a period of time, he becomes the starter - period. He's the clear #3.Plus JJones hit the rookie wall last year, and should be better ready to perform for 16 games in 2008.What I'm saying is that JJones has upside but SMac has mostly downside. Granted my simplification of how that upside manifests wasn't accurate as I was trying to be short-winded.

Very sorry guys that I took so long to put a pick up. I was in court all day - far longer than we thought it would go.

And when I checked last night - I was still far off. Then I was up extremely early and had to head to court - figured I'd be a couple spots away by the time I got out. But then again, also figured I'd get out at 12/1.

So finally, I called someone and guided him to getting to this thread and asked him to post it.

Anyway, my bad.

Nah, I'm the one that keeps people out of jail.

I'll be gone until Monday afternoon. Will pm Jeff instructions for my picks.

On another note, this draft will be completed in two weeks. I'll begin cutting the clock as needed to accomplish the goal next week. As of now, we're still looking good.

No, I'm wondering why Jeff didn't post Dom's pick when OM originally timed out if I'm reading Domination's post correctly.

Because I mean yeah it's Friday, but we've gotten a whole one pick done in the past 10 hours.

Sent Jeff instructions for the next 5 rounds. Spring gobbler season opens in 9 hours....adois.
