People are waiting in line outside the Circuit City here (1 Viewer)

Otis, you would've been TWICE as blown away by the following... I mean.. at least these people are saving hundreds of dollars potentially:1) They had "Free Ice Cream" day at a ice cream store (sheridan's) near my office. People were literally waiting in line 2+ hours for a free $3-5 item.2) Chipotle Free Burrito Day: People will wait in 45 min + lines for that too?Yet. I think if they were handing out $5 bills, would these people still wait in the same line?Seem -EVThis practically screams for a poll.It all comes down to EV.If the guy standing out in the cold for 8 hours saves $500.. maybe that's more than he makes in a typical 8 hour day.. and he's doing nothing more than standing.. so that's clearly +EV.Now, Otis probably makes more than $500 in 8 hours, so him standing out there is -EV.It's 10:30 PM here.. and it's 30 degrees outside. For me to go wait in line from now until 6 AM .. i'm pretty sure the reward at the end of the tunnel would need to be ~$800
But this is not a single event, prices on technology are constantly falling. You will be able to get the same savings without standing in the snow and making yourself miserable if you can show some restraint prior to a purchase.
I've done the research, I'm in the market for a flat panel for the bedroom. This 46" Sharp is by far the best deal out there (IMO) and you'll have to wait a year to get it at this price.
Ok, I can buy that, I am close to buying a plasma tv, but I am still using a tv I bought at target in 1997 so I am not what you would call a early adopter. I just finished my cabbage patch kid collection. Good news was I bought a 1000 of them for a nickle.I tend to think that there will be other sales in the future though.
:hijack:did you really buy 1000 cabbage patch kids for a nickel?

tip - hold your hand against something like the wall or table to keep your picture steady when using any camera.
Thanks. Otis = not very smart wif cameras. And this thing has like a million options on it that I don't understand. Maybe I should RTFM.I just last night figured out to watch the videos I took of (1) my ex girlfriend and (2) my current girlfriend. No, neither is X-rated.
when filming put your elbow in your gut. read it in wired. forms a natural tripod.

My wife just called me from WalMart (she works in the bakery) to tell me the cops had to "escort" a guy out of the store. He had been first in a long line to get one of the 30 Wiis that were supposed to be available. Actually, there was only 6, and WalMart employees bought them all up before the store opened. The guy was heard shouting "They can't be all gone! I'm first in line!"
LOLowned

That's just so............unseemly. And all for what? To buy stuff? Good God, people, the stores have succeeded in convincing you to drop the last vestiges of dignity to spend money with them.

For the record, I'm paying a couple hundred extra bucks and getting a different TV versus standing in line. I'm just not sure why you need to be an ####### about people that want to save a few hundred bucks.
Pretty defensive here, Brent.
Just don't dig the whole "superior to the poor working stiffs" part of O's bag of tricks. 150% Otis, Heads up with gay poker robot Otis, and camera phone whore Otis are cool. This one's down there with fall in love with a different girl every three days Otis and unable to complete Otis.
Exactly.

Bentley, I hope you got the HDTV. I don't see anything wrong if you wanted to brave a little cold weather so that your wife and kiddies could have some quality entertainment. All FBGs are created equal and endowed with the unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Consumer Electronics.
I bought my TV today at Costco after a good night's sleep with no waiting in line. I just didn't see why Otis needed to be an ####### about the people standing in line.

I love how this thread has evolved into three different acts.

Act I: Otis standing on his high horse from his yuppie balcony passing judgment of everyone beneath him.

Act II: Proletariat FBGs denounce Otis and said high horse. That ####in' fascist.

Act III: A dozen links to Youtube videos of people being trampled.

God bless America.

God bless the FFA.

Not fascist...unreformed capitalist? Those videos are a pretty good PSA of what one would have to deal with to save a few bucks, unfortunately.

I have a BestBuy next to a Super Target that just opened in August about a mile from my house. I saw it on the News yesterday - the local news channel flew over in the helicopter filming - it was a madhouse. Parking lot was ridiculously empty.

The Super Walmart across the street was practically empty. My wife went there around 9:30 or so to get some stuff - parked right next to the building, no lines, etc. Apparently they even announced over the loud speaker that they still had GPS's available at the Black Friday special price - they did not sell out of everything.

It's funny that Best Buy/Target must have taken all of Walmart's business.

I don't have a balcony GB. I live in a one room apartment. Let's not make this into some socio-economic class struggle here. It's about morons standing in line in the cold to trample each other for a television.

I bet some FFAers are out there doing this sort of thing right now. I'd love to know which ones.
Did it last year to try to get the 42 inch panasonic plasma for a grand. I didnt have a job then and the money i would have saved would have been huge. I didnt get it. :bag
You didn't have a job, but you could still afford to drop a grand on a friggin' TV?? :hophead:

That's good about not having a balcony. More indoor space for the mirrors.

He needs the mirrors, his hair has to be "just right" in each part of his apartment.

Weren't you already voted off the island?

 why not. not everybody has tons of cash to throw around or cares about wasting a couple hours waiting on line to save money on #### like this.
There is no product special enough that I would be out there in line with these schlubs to get one now.
you're also 30ish and made of moneyyou drop 300 dollars on dinner for a first datework-a-day folks appreciate a good deal and are willing to suffer a bit for it
Regular folks just aren't putting thought into it. They could pay a bum 100 bucks to stay in line for them overnight, then get there when the store opens. Not to mention, the regular people that you mention are still standing in line for hours in then cold to spend money on luxury items. Nothing Circuit City sells is important enough to stand in line for.

OKi still don't understand why people care that someone else is standing in line at 3AM to buy a tv.not sure how that effects anyone's life but the purchaser.

This all brings back baaaaadddd memories of being a CCity mgr for 5 years. Wow, I really don't miss retail. I like a good deal as much or more then the average guy, but black friday deals stopped being really good a few years ago. Sure there are a couple of decently priced items, but too many people are chasing too few bargains to be worthwhile.

So did all the televisions for the year end up being gone, and are folks who didn't wait in line now stuck doing puppet shows in their living rooms?
