Shurmur seems to love him, and they have no real depth. I'd say Hillis will be run into the ground down the stretch. Despite that, I'd say he only has serious value in PP Rush and TD heavy leagues. I honestly don't know if he has a 100 yard rushing game the rest of this season.

you expect Hillis to be the man once he returns?

Golden tidbits.

I cant see any Browns RB being esp. valuable down the stretch esp. with that schedule(playoffs look deadly imo) that said he's an upgrade over 2.8 Hardesty but he's just as nimble.

Not sure what you mean by this but I have been a paying member of this website going on 6 years now..Why does this kind of crap have to enter this discussion anyway?

Expect a lot of 12 carry 38 yard days the rest of the way for Mr Useless, I mean...Hillis. The Browns will have to throw and throw as they will be down double digits.

To answer the OP Hillis was always due to be "the man" whenever he could get healthy. I don't think Hardesty was more than 6-8 touch per game back which for all of that felt Hillis wore down last year this was not exactly a bad thing.Let me answer the response above with a question(s). What changed this year versus last year that would lead you to indicate a healthy Hillis is useless? Major part of his value lies in receptions, would the Browns be throwing more not only increase his chances of racking up more points in that department?I'm not in any re-draft leagues that I can trade but if I was I'd be out trying to get this guy. Yes the schedule sucks but when you make a big part of your contribution on pass catching it makes you somewhat match up proof which is a big reason Hillis was one of the most consistent fantasy performers in PPR leagues last year, posting double digit fantasy points in all but the last two games. Now those last two games were against Pitt and Baltimore but by that point in the year depending on what you think Hillis was injured, wore down, or what I think which was a combo of the two. This year, the one saving grace from his early season struggles staying on the field is he should be considerably more fresh later in the year.

The Browns have rookie Armond Smith on the practice squad, and Shurmur said wide receiver Josh Cribbs could be used at running back, but that seems unlikely.
Hopefully, Hillis is back, would be good timing for me in the two leagues I have him.

This topic was definitely an uptick in quality for the forum. Not to hijack, but I have a feeling if/when Manning gets healthy, he'll get his starting spot back.Thoughts?

Sorry, but the question on whether Hillis is the man is trivial. There is really no possible way that anyone but Hillis is the #1 RB in Cleveland when healthy. Anyone who thinks otherwise is completely ignoring any factual reality. Shurmur has said over and over and over again the Hillis is the starting RB, even while he was hurt. There are way too many Hardesty owners who are too busy pimping him to actually pay attention. Now, whether or not Hillis will put up good numbers when he gets back... probably not, our o-line is just playing terrible this year.

well, hopefully he's at least servicable in ppr. I need him to step up.

You forget that Hillis is a very good receiver? Sure, he likely won't put up big rushing numbers. But there is no reason why Hillis can't get 50-60 yards on the ground and catch 3-5 passes and score every other week. That's solid RB2 production in a PPR.In a nonPPR league, sure...be concerned.

How many games has hillis missed? I dont believe rumors but anyone think hes holding out? He came into the season thinkin he was gonna get an extension. Hasnt happened yet...

My definition of "the man" is NOT losing carries to Hardesty even when he was healthy. The only decent game Hillis has had this year was Indy where he got a butt load of work and points. the rest of the way has been pretty pedestrian and you can make an argument that it hasnt been completely about his health (One poster mentioned the offensive line). The Browns have also said they would try to reduce Hillis carries this year because of how he wore down last season. So by the term "The Man" I am refering to a work load comparible to last season where at some point he could be considered a RB 1 like many of us hoped he would continue to be when we drafted him.

Now that this has been spelled out for some of you( *Cough* Rizzler *Cough*), can we discuss this possibility and actually contribute to the discussion?

Changed thread title in hopes of better responses

Hillis/Cleveland has a terrible fantasy schedule stretch coming up to end this year to go along with all the other problems he has faced.

Week 11 - Jacksonville

Week 12 - @Cincinati

Week 13 - Baltimore

Week 14 - Pittsburgh

Week 15 - @Arizona (Good Matchup)

Week 16 - @Baltimore

He's a decent hold going into next year, but I can't honestly expect much

I am a Hillis redraft owner and other than v. STL in week 10 and Arizona in week 15 I will have to see something I have not seen yet this year except v. Indy to start him.

The CLE offense has been pretty bad and I am not sure that getting Hillis back is going to correct that as the WR's are not great, the TE's are hurt or young and the OL is below average. and oh yea, McCoy seems to have noodle arm and I am not sure will last long term in the NFL on top of it. At least Hillis knows he is a FA after the next 9 weeks and is playing for his next contract.

I get that he has some tough running defenses to face and thats valuable information that would normally downgrade a RB's value, however Hillis is also active in the passing game which at least to some degree makes him useful when the defenses shut down the passing game and he is the dump off option.

I wonder if management is willing to let Hillis walk after the season, so they will run him into the ground the rest of the way.

I know he has a tough schedule coming up, but in a PPR league, he should still get the 5-yard dumpoffs that all add up.

Holmgren was quoted as saying he would allow him to test the market and allow the market to dictate his value.http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2011/10/cleveland_browns_president_mik_10.html
