Peyton Manning: indestructable? (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
When Steve McNair can`t play a quarter of football without getting some kind of injury, Josh McCown hurt his finger and foot, Elis shoulder is hurt, Kitnas back is sore, Drew Stanton blew his knee out in TC, Lions third string QB got hurt as well.

Garcia got knocked out first week, McNabb always has a nagging injury, Palmer has been seriously hurt, Culpeppers knee, Trent Greens brain was scrambled, Dree Brees shoulder was torn up, Leftwich ankle, Grossman ankle, Pennington shoulder, Hasslebacks hand, Vick broken leg, Drew Bledsoes lung collapsed, Chris Simms ruptured spleen,Big Ben knocked out cold,The list goes on and on.

Yet Peyton Manning lines up play after play, week after week without a scratch. When you think about it that is an incredicle feat. I know Farve does too, but he has played while hurt pretty bad.

He broke his jaw once.

Yeah - its pretty incredible how he is always out there. Gotta credit the offensive line and his ability to get rid of the football quickly and accurately.

He's just so incredibly smart and talented, he decides where the ball needs to go and has the ability to get it there before anyone can get near him.

What a treat it is to be able to watch what I'm starting to believe is the best to ever play the game.

I remember when that happened, vicious hit, I think it was Sam Madison on a blitz IIRC, Manning missed one play.Dude is nails. His durability coupled with his consistent high end production are what make him a first round value in every draft.

Gotta give some credit to his O-Line.

I believe last Thursday on NBC, they showed a graphic that Manning was tehe 3rd least-sacked QB in the modern era. (behind only Doug Williams and Dan Marino)

Not to take anything away from Manning, who is tough, but the guy isn't hit that much behind that O-Line. I think they put the stat up there Thursday night that he's been sacked among the fewest times per pass of any QB in history.

Marino himself gets a most of the credit for his low sack totals. His quick release really helped in that regard. And Williams played behind The Hogs.

The more I think about it it is more his ability to read defenses and audible into quick slants, hitches and dump offs. He knows when he is going to get hit and makes sure he has a play where he can get rid of it.

He's doing great, but he has about 100 games to go to reach Favre's level of toughness. And Favre has taken far more punishment than Manning so you can't really talk about Manning for a few more seasons as the tough guy QB. His accomplishments are nothing yet compared to Favre.

There you go! :lmao:Contrast this to guys like David Carr, a guy who it's becoming increasingly apparent took an amazing beating because he didn't have a clue what do do with the ball once he took it from under center.

Yup, I see it now. Fourth post from the top. Stupid work interferring with my comprehensive reading.

Any time a player in this game can go uninjured for as long as players like Peyton and LT there is some luck involved. Both LT and Peyton have great instincts and I'm sure that plays a big role, but these guys are getting hit by 250lb+ physical freaks running at top speed in full pads. Sometimes you just get lucky.

I wonder how this indestructibility would be if he played behind a bad offensive line. The guy never gets touched.
When Manning releases the ball on some plays, other QB's would still be thinking about what to do. THat's why his sack total is always low. Quick decisions.

Love the timing of this thread. I play against the Manning/Harrison combo this week. May he come down with a severe, 1 game limiting, hangnail.

I heard he's in contract negotiations with the guys at EA Sports right now negotiating his fee to be on next year's Madden cover.

of course, just kidding. the guy's incredible.
