Peyton Manning Wants to Make Football an Olympic Sport (1 Viewer)

Has anyone heard about this? Peyton Manning made a promotional video petition to try to make football an Olympic sport. The marketing company I work for is helping out with the campaign. The video is pretty funny. If anyone hasn't seen it, you can watch it at http://www.weplay.com/widget. I know it's not serious, but I would like to see some Olympic football. I know I'm not alone here. How awesome would that be? Who do you think will make USA's Olympic football team?

Even if we only allowed college players and let other countries roster whoever they want, it would be an absolute massacre that would make the Dream Team runs of the 90s pale by comparison. There is no point because there's not a single country out there that could compete, including Canada and Germany. Would be a complete joke. Also, what college player would want to risk their NFL prospects to compete in a massacre.

Europe already pushed baseball out, so there's about zero chance football would make it in. Funny to think about, though.

The top college players wouldn't risk thier big paydays for it... and no way any team is going to let thier players do it.

Just like that World Baseball toury a couple of years ago... that didn't last.

LOL. Team USA would give up a grand total of 0 points the whole Olympics. There's no chance this happens any time soon.

To earn a spot in the Summer Olympics, generally a men's sport has to have active competition in at least 75 countries. American football is too specialized and too expensive to achieve anything close to that.

we had our chance in 1996, and we chose Beach Volleyball. Bikinis >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Mannings
fixed

How many meters for a first down?
Don't be silly. The rest of the world wouldn't take our favorite sport and change the terminology. Any more than we would take their favorite sport and change it, replacing their terminology or the... um.. the name... :unsure:Nevermind.

Heck, football is a joke, might as well throw in USA's #2 sport NASCAR, that's more international than football (Juan Pablo = Columbia, Ron Fellows = Canada etc.

Cricket anyone?

Why dont we put Gaelic Football in the Olympics too! That way Ireland can win gold, silver, and bronze.

Sounds like Manning and his ego was a little jealous of all the world wide notoriety Michael Phelps was getting. Not sure why though, isnt Michael Phelps related to the Mannings? He looks just like one.

American football is already played on a junior level is multiple places. While there is no further development for the most part outside of the USA and a far lessor extent Canada and Europe, if they handled it as developmental sport and capped the player age at 21, the games could be more competitive than you think.

I'd wager BJJ or MMA become Olympic events long before American Football. There just isn't nearly enough worldwide interest in the sport.

Going off on a tangent... if Tokyo gets the games in 2016, what are the odds Sumo becomes an Olympic event?

Cricket is played by countries with combined populations of billions around the globe. The Olympics hates team sports though, possibly because sports fans actually care about them.

So when reading a forum dedicated to American Football and hearing that a Quarterback on a team that plays American Football professionally said this, you really thought he was talking about the sport we call soccer?
