I own Thomas but I really dont think weve seen the end of Deuce yet. Why would they even have him on the roster if we did? I wouldnt get too excited just yet.
I'm wondering about this as well. They have Bush, Thomas and Stecker. If the Saints believed Deuce was finished why keep him? It's not like they need him with the emerging Thomas. This goes back to my question a few posts ago - was Payton's call to Deuce just a way to keep the veteran content or does he genuinely believe Deuce is going to play a major role at some point this season? If it's the latter, than that will significantly impact Thomas' value.I own Thomas but I really dont think weve seen the end of Deuce yet. Why would they even have him on the roster if we did? Because he's a star in New Orleans. They love him there because of who he is and the work he does in the community. They want to give him every chance to succeed. I get that but at the end of the day this is about winning games. Does Payton genuinely believe Deuce can regain his starter's role (or co-starter's) or is he just showing him respect and all that? This, to me, is the most important question that needs to be answered if you're evaluating picking up Thomas. Alexander was a star in Seattle, but they released him because they didn't think he could perform at the level required anymore. They'd probably keep him on the team even if he didn't play. Does he think he'll start again? Who knows?Right now it looks like Stecker is the backup(to Deuce and Bush) and PT backs up everyone. Thomas isn't close to starting the way I see it but will get touches.I get that but at the end of the day this is about winning games. I agree. And this is, in my opinion, is what limits Thomas' fantasy upside. Now if Deuce can't make it back then Thomas will have nice value. But if it's just a matter of time before Deuce returns than Thomas isn't someone to pursue as aggressively in my opinion.Alexander was a star in Seattle, but they released him because they didn't think he could perform at the level required anymore. Oddly I seem to remember SA getting booed at times even during his MVP year. I can't remember why, but the Seattle fans always always had issues with SA.Duece has always been loved by the Saints fans (for good reason). As a falcons fan I've been to a few games at the Superdome, and when Duece would get the ball, the fans would go nutz. But at the same time they felt this way about Horn, and mangement kicked him to the curb (although the some fans were in an uproar over that for a while).Alexander was a star in Seattle, but they released him because they didn't think he could perform at the level required anymore. I wish because I have him on several teams but the Saints fans I know say it differently. I hope you're right.I'm not forgetting about Stecker but he looks to be the No. 3 guy right now. The Saints really need a physical complement to Bush. Thomas brings that more than Stecker which is why he fits the "Deuce" role so well. The question I have is:How long will he keep it?
They love him like Packers fans love Favre. Look at how he acted when Bush came in. No controversy. He embraced him. Horn was liked too especially because of how he acted after Katrina but you are right they did get rid of him. They thought of cutting Deuce too until he re worked his contract. Horn was given that option too but chose to be released.Oddly I seem to remember SA getting booed at times even during his MVP year. Although I do think Duece will get some "token" goal line carries regardless since, as I said before, he can really get Saints fans fired up.
The last thing they consider when deciding to release a player or not is his work in the community. this is true. the fans will forgive the front office if it brings NOLA a superbowl trophy.moreover, loomis has approached the job in a very no nonsense manner. fan favorite and locker room leaders like joe horn and willie roaf have left under loomis' tenure. he's not a sentimental fool. The last thing they consider when deciding to release a player or not is his work in the community. If the team didn't really care they would've cut him by now. If they really thought Thomas could replace him, they would've cut him by now.I will maintain my stance that Deuce is still the best RB on the team. It has nothing to do with sentiment. If healthy, he is just plain old better than every other back on the roster. The Saints obviously see it that way, and they know way more about his status and effectiveness than anybody on this message board. The last thing they consider when deciding to release a player or not is his work in the community. I don't think Deuce is the best RB on the team at this point but I agree with your first two sentences. If the Saints thought he was done he'd be gone. The fact he's still around is revealing. As much as I like Thomas, the fact Deuce is still hanging around is a mitigating factor in terms of his fantasy value in my opinion. If the team didn't really care they would've cut him by now. RB McAllister stuck as an emergency plan in New Orleans
For the time being, it appears RB Deuce McAllister will remain an emergency option and a backup plan for the Saints. He was activated in Week One but did not play a single down, and sources say he could play the same role for weeks. We hear the team is pleased with second-year RB Pierre Thomas and if he continues to play well, there’s no guarantee that McAllister will regain a prominent role in the ground game this season. Reggie Bush seems to be making strides, as well, in his third season and there’s no urgency to get McAllister back on the field. McAllister tore his left ACL almost one year ago and he also underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee in the winter. New Orleans is not at all counting him out yet, but there are better options ahead of him at this point, and that might not change soon.

I'm hopeful Deuce will not be a factor. If he isn't, Thomas has a chance to be a good RB3 and possibly even a RB2. Deuce ranked 13th among RBs two seasons ago so if Thomas can keep the job, get 12-15 carries a game and a good number of TDs he could become a solid RB2.Does that link work for anyone? It comes up empty for me.I'm hopeful Deuce will not be a factor. If he isn't, Thomas has a chance to be a good RB3 and possibly even a RB2. Sounds like the reason Deuce has been kept around isn't because he is the best back on the roster, but because he is the second best, and you can never have too many backs. So, Deuce is really insurance for Pierre!Like to see this:

Wow! A realistic, practical and intelligent answer. These are few and far between these days.Deuce has had ACL surgery on both his knees. Left knee in 2005, and right knee if 2007. Then had microfracture surgery on his left knee again this offseason. He's 29 years old, and will be 30 by season's end. Deuce is a warrior, and its amazing he's still on an NFL roster, because they don't just give those spots away for being a good guy. I think he made the team because he is one of the best four RBs that the Saints have. The Saints may give him a legit shot at getting his job back over Thomas, but I just don't see how he could beat out a young, healthy 23 year old RB in Pierre Thomas, who has done nothing but look good in the opportunities provided to him.
Do you like Pierre Thomas better than Justin Fargas? Who do you see with the most upside out of those two who are in somewhat similar situations.Wow! A realistic, practical and intelligent answer. I'm in a similar situation with a team I took over in a dynasty league. I'm going with Thomas as my flex over Selvin this week.Anyone rolling with him this week in an emergency situation, I'm down to either Selvin or him.. team is decimated due to Ike
:catfight:In the Deuce/Thomas thread... you directed conversation at me initially.Seems like this is becoming a pattern with you, but by all means, have your fun.I've never been stalked before (well, at least not in the SP). Should be interesting.I was just having some fun hackin' on you.![]()

Well I'm going for it. Deuce isn't inactive this game, but hopefully last game repeats itself. The Skins have been bad against the run this year, and Marcus Washington is out this game. You only live once. I do.. but I'll add the disclaimer that the Raiders are largely off my radar. Also, I tend to have more of a dynasty focus. As the season progresses, I think the Raiders will transition more to McFadden. Thomas is also limited by Reggie Bush, but I'll take the guy in a better offense.Do you like Pierre Thomas better than Justin Fargas? Still only 3 carries thoughTD Thomas!

And only 5 for Bush. Seems about right. It will switch around should the Saints get a noticeable lead.Still only 3 carries thoughTD Thomas!![]()
I was getting worried for a second there.
