Pierre Thomas Hurt on First Tackling Drill of Camp (1 Viewer)

Sounds like it's nothing serious, but if I'm a Thomas owner, I would be a bit concerned about him getting banged up that early.

He's never been a true workhorse, and the team may want to continue to limit his touches. As mentioned, Hamilton could be in line for a meaningful role - Payton seems to really like him.

METAIRIE, La. ― Pierre Thomas left the practice field Tuesday on the first play of team after injuring his wrist on the first run play of team period.

Thomas, the Saints’ leading running back a season ago, stayed on the ground for more than 30 seconds before the training staff got to him on the field and helped him off.

Trainers looked at his wrist, then took him into the locker room for the rest of practice.

“I think it’s fine,” Head Coach Sean Payton said, “but we’ll get an X-ray on it.”

He added, “I think it’s more of a bone bruise based on what I saw.”

Thomas lined up in the backfield as the Saints began working on their red zone offense and defense. He took the handoff from quarterback Drew Brees and darted into the left side of the line.

He was met by strong safety Roman Harper, along with a bevy of other defenders.

But when everyone else got up off the ground, Thomas remained down.

His injury is the first breath-holding moment of camp. The Saints left the first seven practices relatively unscathed.

he sounds soft... until he gets his contract
Then his agent better give him a refresher on contract situations. You man up no matter what when you are playing for a big contract, then you get soft after you sign the deal. He's got it backwards.

he needed to be helped off the field because of a bruised wrist? :goodposting:
he's been hurt a lot. I think this is the main thing keeping him from being a starter.I guess we just hope he doesnt get an infected papercut while signing autographs at the end of the day.... that could keep him out for weeks.

Thomas is one of the best tackle breakers in the nfl. Did you not even watch the super bowl?Anyway, Reggie Bush won't be asked to carry a bigger load. They tried that once before and it failed miserably. It would definately be Hamilton filling in. Whatever, it's all moot since it isn't a broken bone.

Geeze y'all have Thomas all wrong. He's the exact opposite of what you are describing. Pierre's toughness is one of the reasons they were willing to let Antonio Pittman go. I'm not sure what kind of shot he took on his wrist, but it doesn't negate the fact that he's one of the top tackle-breakers in the NFL, and came make "something out of nothing" more frequently than any running back in the league right now.He missed two games last season coming off of a sprained knee in pre-season. He was quite remarkable upon his return. Prior to that, I'm not aware of any other time missed due to injury.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "keeping him from being a starter". Did I miss something here? Since when is Peirre Thomas not the Saints starting RB? He averages just under 5.5 YPC, nearly 8 YPC on receptions, maintains 1 TD for every 23 touches, and he had one hell of a super bowl game (which i'm starting to wonder if anyone in this thread even watched).

"Running back Pierre Thomas missed 3½ games last season — the Saints’ first 2½ games with a sprained knee and the finale while the team rested its starters for the playoffs. He was on pace to score 199 fantasy points over a full 16-game slate, which would have placed him among the top 10 in scoring among running backs"

I suppose I digressed some, but I felt like I had to defend my man PT.

I am absolutely convinced that the extremely tough shark poolers would have rubbed some dirt on it and got back into the huddle.

I was working on an NFL Network commercial two weeks ago, you'll see it for Gameday with the hosts in an old cruiser passing by players from several teams. Anyway, Pierre and the kicker were the first guys we shot and there was a woman also with a big SB ring, I think she's an owner or daughter of the owner. The players are decked up in their uniforms, cleats and all, but were only being shot from the waist up or so. On the first take, Pierre's cleated feet slip on the concrete and he about does the splits. The woman almost had a heart attack and he was a little unthrilled. Needless to say, the rest of the shoot, all the players had their sneakers and not their cleats. Kind of sucks for him to narrowly miss pulling a groin to getting hurt right off the bat.

bte, he looks young, like 16 years old babyface. I couldn't believe he looked like that and beat out Bush and had a SB ring already. Made me feel very old...

Below says it all and sees this clearly. Nicely written.

Per WDSU @6trainingcamp:

Saints RB Pierre Thomas on the field practicing...no brace or extra protection on the wrist he injured Tuesday.
